"Oh, my! Would you look at this mess." This article requires cleanup to meet the Ninjago Wiki's quality standards. Early life

Kai and Nya were very young when their parents were taken from them

Kai was born in Ignacia, the first child of a blacksmith named Ray who owned the Four Weapons shop. He and his younger sister, Nya, were raised in their father's craft. Unknown to either of them, their parents were the Elemental Masters of Fire and Water. Kai inherited his father's element of Fire, while Nya inherited their mother's ability of Water though they were unaware of this fact at first.

When Kai and Nya were young, Ray would tell them stories of the dragons, mystical creatures that belonged to both the world of the living and of the dead. He would often teach them proverbs such as "No matter how much fire you have, experience isn't something you learn overnight" and "The world works in mysterious ways. At one point, young Kai and Nya met Wu, a friend of their parents.

When his parents disappeared, Kai took it upon himself to keep the family business going, vowing to surpass his father's blacksmith skills. Kai took care of his sister while they wondered all their lives what became of their parents. At one point, the two had a babysitter named Grumbmiller, who they disliked and would trip her when she made them go to bed early. Because Grumbmiller's cooking was subpar, Nya would often volunteer to make dinner.

Way of the Ninja

One day while working, Kai explained to Nya how to properly make a sword, but became too impatient and thus produced a disfigured weapon. He was reminded by his sister to be more patient, but were interrupted when an old man entered the shop. The potential customer voiced complaints concerning the lack of tools for ninja and Kai quickly shooed him away.

Shortly thereafter, Ignacia fell under attack by Samukai and his Skeleton army. Kai attempted to defend them with samurai armor, though it proved to be slow and clunky. While he managed to defeat several skeleton foot soldiers, he was quickly subdued by Samukai. Pinned down by his armor, Kai would have fallen victim to the Skulkin General had the old man—Master Wu—not returned and saved him. However, while they were preoccupied, the skeletons kidnapped Nya and escaped to the Underworld. The young blacksmith intended to go after them, but was stopped by Wu. He explained to Kai the story of the First Spinjitzu Master and his two sons who fought over the four Golden Weapons, explaining that an honest man—Kai's father—had been entrusted with the map to their resting places. Kai was advised by Wu to become a ninja to save his sister, and Kai reluctantly agreed.

Kai was taken to the Monastery of Spinjitzu in order to be trained as a ninja and learn Spinjitzu. During his training, Kai had to learn patience and how to harness the "fire" inside of him. This training consisted of running a course before Master Wu finishes his tea. Kai accomplished this after several days and did so by knocking the teacup out of his Master's hands when he was about halfway through the course. He was then told by Wu that he had one final test the next day, and should get some sleep.

The Golden Weapon

Later that night, while Kai was pondering Master Wu's training while brushing his teeth, he was set upon by three black-suited ninja. Their fight took them out to the courtyard where Kai activated the training course to even the odds. They were quickly stopped by Wu, who revealed that the three ninja were his students as well. Wu then used Creation to give each of the ninja a suit that matched their elemental properties and pronounced Kai as the red Master of Fire. After Wu explained their purpose, he announced that they would now leave to claim the first Golden Weapon.

On the way there, Kai and the others explained where and how Master Wu found them. Kai revealed that he is journeying to the Underworld to save his sister, to which Jay replied "We're saving a girl? Is she hot?"

Once they arrived at the Caves of Despair, Kai ran ahead of the other ninja while Cole was still formulating a plan. The others caught up to him at Samukai's watchtower, and after Zane stole the map of Golden Weapons, Kai raced ahead again. The other ninja followed him into one of the caves and found him attempting to remove a large boulder from blocking a hidden room. They did so, and Cole reminded him that they were a team as they moved it together. Inside they found the Scythe of Quakes, and removed it from its resting place. On their way out, Jay accidentally revealed their position to the skeleton army, and they were soon in a battle. After Jay discovered the key to unlocking his Spinjitzu, Kai and the others were quick to follow. They used it to drive off the skeleton army, after which they discovered that they had a bigger problem in the form of the weapon's guardian, the Earth Dragon. Kai happened to be holding the Scythe at the time and decided that the only way out was to use it, contrary to Master Wu's instructions. After escaping, Kai was strictly reprimanded by Master Wu, and they went onward toward the next weapon, the Shurikens of Ice.

King of Shadows

Kai, Nya, and Wu

While on their way to the Frozen Wasteland, the location of the Shurikens of Ice, Wu told the ninja about the most powerful technique in Spinjitzu, the Tornado of Creation. Kai began to attempt it but was stopped by Master Wu, who explained that it could lead to disastrous consequences if done incorrectly.

After they succeeded in finding the Shurikens, the ninja ascended to the Floating Ruins for the Nunchucks of Lightning. After retrieving it, they used Jay's gliders to descend into the Forest of Tranquility, where they made camp. Kai was later awoken in the middle of the night and lured to the Fire Temple by Garmadon, who was pretending to be his sister. Kai was forced to remove the Sword of Fire from its pedestal to cut a chain and save his sister from falling. He was then attacked and defeated by his own shadow under Garmadon's manipulation, but Master Wu arrived before the dark lord could claim the sword. Realizing it had just been a trap to lure them away from the other ninja, the three attempted to escape but were stopped by the Fire Dragon. As a last resort, Wu sacrificed himself and ventured into the Underworld with the Sword of Fire. While his act kept the four Golden Weapons apart, Kai and Nya were still left in the hands of the Fire Dragon.

Weapons of Destiny

Luckily the Fire Dragon soon realized that they were simply trying to protect the weapons, and by the time the other ninja arrived, Kai and Nya had befriended the Dragon. They assembled the other guardian dragons and mounted them cross over into the Underworld.

Once there, the ninja attempted to use the stalactites to sneak past the guards of the Skulkin fortress but accidentally grabbed onto the legs of a Spykor. Out of fear, Kai and the others fell to the ground outside the fortress where they were quickly surrounded by Skulkin and Spykors alike. With their options limited Jay suggested they perform the Tornado of Creation and the ninja successfully performed the technique, turning the fortress into a Ferris Wheel prison. The ninja descended into the throne room where Master Wu was dueling Samukai for the Golden Weapons. Kai forbade the other ninja to interfere as it was their master's fight. Wu was quickly defeated, but when Samukai took the Sword of Fire, a portal between dimensions was formed, and Samukai was destroyed. This allowed Garmadon to escape from the Underworld.

Knowing that he would one day return, Kai took the Sword of Fire and vowed to protect it, as did the others with their respective weapons.

Celebrating their victory

Kai and the other ninja returned to Four Weapons where they were reunited with Nya and assured the villagers they would be ready when Garmadon returned.

Flight of the Dragon Ninja

The ninja were told to train by Master Wu but instead opted to spend their time racing their dragons. Jay won the race and began bragging about his skills. Kai and the others challenged him to another race over the forest and back, with the winner becoming "Dragon Master" for a month. Zane objected, feeling that the ninja should be training, to which Kai replied that riding their dragons was a form of training.

The race begins, and Kai and Zane flew their dragons over the clouds, where they briefly dueled each other with their dragons' elemental breaths. On the home stretch, they were all neck-and-neck, but Cole won when he "activated the turbo"—a roasted chicken dangled in front of his dragon's nose. Once the others landed, Kai congratulated Cole on the win but said that they would get him the next day. Cole reminds the others that the winner was supposed to be "Dragon Master" for a month, and Kai and the others denied ever agreeing to the bet.

The New Masters of Spinjitzu

One night, Nuckal and Kruncha infiltrated the Monastery of Spinjitzu to steal the Golden Weapons from the ninja while they slept. Although the theft went off without a hitch, Kai was awoken when the Skulkin Generals lost control of the weapons and accidentally activated the training course. Half-asleep, Kai went outside to shut the course off, irritably reminding Jay that he had to repair whatever flaw was causing it to turn itself on. With that, Kai went back to sleep, completely unaware of Kruncha and Nuckal's presence in the monastery. They quickly returned the Weapons to the ninja with haste and returned to the Underworld.

Return to the Fire Temple

While taking a ride on the Fire Dragon, Kai and Nya were suddenly taken to the Fire Temple. After dismounting the Dragon, Flame led Kai to a passage connecting Ninjago to the Underworld. Kai started planning what to do when the ground falls out from beneath him. He found out that the Skulkin were assembling to reenter Ninjago, and got caught in a fight. He fought back, but they picked him up, disarming him. Nya and Flame then shot a blast of fire, which scared the Skulkin away and seals the passage to the Underworld.

With peace throughout Ninjago, Kai and the other ninja fell out of training and instead spent their time playing video games. After a three hour marathon, they were interrupted by Wu who unplugged the TV. He encouraged them not to put off tomorrow what could be done today, and to start training again to

prepare for his brother's return to Ninjago. Kai reminded his Master that if Garmadon is to show up, they have the Tornado of Creation. Wu sighed and told him and the others that they had barely scratched the surface of unlocking their True Potentials. Cole turned the TV back on, and the ninja continued playing.

At that moment, Nya rushed in, bringing word that Garmadon was spotted in Jamanakai Village. The out-of-shape ninja rushed out the door and down to the dragon pen where Kai mounted the Fire Dragon with the Nya's help.

Eager to get back into the fight, the ninja raced each other to Jamanakai Village. Upon arrival, Kai argued with Jay about who had arrived first. They were interrupted by the sound of evil laughter from the village, and they drew their weapons. They approached the village but were surprised to find that it was, in fact, Lloyd Garmadon, the dark lord's son, who was causing trouble. Lloyd threatened to release the serpentine, an ancient race of snakes that once ruled Ninjago unless they give him candy. The ninja tied him to the top of a sign and embarrassed him in front of the villagers as they mocked him by eating candy.

As they prepared to return to the monastery, Kai discovered a scroll in Wu's bag which he had taken by mistake. They read it and learned of the Prophecy of the Green ninja. It was said that one ninja will rise above the others and become the Green ninja. The scroll was also inscribed with drawings that are identical to the four ninja, with a fifth ninja in the middle. Kai believed himself to be the Green ninja, as did the others, so when they returned to the monastery, the four Spinjitzu masters challenged themselves to a tournament for the title. Kai faced off against Jay in the first round and won, thus moving on to the final round against Cole. However, the tournament ended when Kai lost control of the Sword of Fire and the ninja were scolded by Master Wu.

Determined to be the Green ninja, Kai and the others devoted themselves to training. They were soon ordered back to Jamanakai Village and find that Lloyd had unleashed the Hypnobrai tribe of Serpentine. Kai once again mounted the Fire Dragon and upon arriving at the village, met up with Nya. The ninja found that the Hyprobrai had the ability to hypnotize their victims into doing their bidding, and were doing so to the villagers. After discovering they would need the anti-venom from the Snake General's staff to save the village, the ninja split up and after a fight with the snakes, sent them retreating. After the villagers had been cured of their hypnotism, Kai presented Wu with the staff and apologized for their lazy behavior earlier. With a new threat now upon them, Kai and the others returned to the monastery determined to unlock the secrets of their Golden Weapons and to reach their True Potential.

Home

In the days that followed, Kai devoted himself to training at the monastery. While he was practicing Spinjitzu, Zane iced the course over, causing Kai to slip. He complained about Zane's strange behavior to Jay and Cole, only to be approached by Master Wu who noted that brothers are often different. Kai remembered one night when he went into the kitchen for a midnight snack, only to find that Zane had consumed everything but the cheese. The Ninjas' conversation was interrupted by the arrival of the Mailman who had a fan letter for Kai, and other mail for Cole and Jay. They made note that nothing has come for Zane, and Zane revealed that he has been an orphan all his life.

That night, Kai and the others gathered in the dining room and were surprised to see Zane emerge from the kitchen wearing a pink apron. The ninja laughed, and Zane failed to find it amusing. Cole dumped a plate of food on Kai's head and shortly after a food fight breaks out.

The next day, Zane told the others that last night he followed a mysterious bird to Lloyd's treehouse fortress. Together, they headed into the Forest of Tranquility and found it exactly where Zane said it would be.

Determined to destroy it before it becomes operational, Kai and the other ninja snuck into it and destroyed its supports. They reached the last support, but Cole, who was hypnotized by a serpentine earlier, turns on them. Before long, Master Wu came riding in on Flame playing an ancient flute, which canceled the Serpentine's powers. The group returned to the Monastery on Flame and discovered the Serpentine had set fire to it in order to steal back their staff.

Zane asked Shard to put the fire out but, the Monastery was beyond repair. Kai and the others verbally attacked Zane but Master Wu caught them reminding them that Zane was their teammate and had them apologize. Before they could, Zane flew off on Shard. Kai and the others assume that he was so hurt by their words that he ran away. Later on, the ninja ate around a fire on a cliff, homeless, until Nya noticed Zane entering the camp. He revealed to them that he was not hurt by their words, but saw the falcon again, and followed it to an abandoned ship. He told them that was their new home, and that he made them dinner.

Kai and the others joyfully ran towards their new home, ready to eat Zane's home-cooked food.

Snakebit

After arriving on Destiny's Bounty they found that it is in disrepair. Master Wu made the ninja clean up their new home while he ran an errand with Nya, which they were reluctant to do.

They proceeded in cleaning it up, dusting the sail, cleaning the cabins, and reworking the electronics. When finished, they put all the trash and junk in the bin outside.

Unlocking the Blade cycle

Later on, while the ninja were relaxing, Jay's parents, Ed and Edna, arrive. They were given the tour of the Bounty by Jay, but he insisted that they leave due to the threat of the Serpentine. While there, they revealed that Jay was born in a junkyard, a fact which Jay is embarrassed about. Eventually, his parents were reluctant to go but leave before dark. Before going they implored that Jay visits them sometime soon. Jay agreed, and they headed out.

The next day as they were doing work on the bridge, the other ninja tried to convince Jay to visit his parents. Although he was reluctant at first, he agrees to go. He went to mount Wisp but found that he had no interest in going anywhere. Master Wu told the ninja that their dragons were molting, and were to return to the Spirit Coves in order to reach maturity. The ninja were disheartened, and Jay asked Nya to accompany him on the long walk. Kai and the others thought he wanted them all to go, and so the whole team accompanied him.

When the ninja arrive, they found Jay's parents nowhere to be found, until they found them locked in an old refrigerator. They learned that another tribe of serpentine, the Fangpyre, had bitten Jay's parents and infected them with venom, slowly turning them into serpentine.

Kai and the other ninja were ambushed by the Fangpyre, who, lead by Lloyd, had turned the whole junkyard into a snake infected area. Kai and the others defeated the snakes and attempted to escape. Master Wu told them that they could get out of there faster by turning their Golden Weapons into vehicles. Kai turned his sword into a bike and drove away as the others did the same. They escaped with Jay's parents after stealing the Snake General's staff, returned to the Bounty, and cured Ed and Edna with the anti-venom. The Bounty was rocked to the side by one of the Fangpyre helicopters, and they dropped the staff, returning it to the serpentine and Lloyd.

Never Trust a Snake

Zane was woken up with a start one morning and recalled that he had a dream. Kai and the others asked him what it was about, and he told them that he saw the green ninja. The ninja implored him to elaborate, but Master Wu interrupted and reminded them that it is time for training.

On the deck, Wu teached them different poses, all the while they were ignoring him to learn more about the dream. Wu caught them slacking off, and told them that as punishment they must train all day and come up with the answer to a riddle, "What is the best way to defeat an enemy?" Kai failed to interpret the riddle along with the other ninja, so Master Wu left them to train.

Zane finished telling them about the dream, and Kai assumed himself to be the green ninja, due to his fists being aflame. The ninja argued over who was the real green ninja and got back to training.

Later on, they found out that a boarding school had been attacked by Lloyd and an unknown Serpentine member, (who was later revealed to be Pythor.)

The Destiny's Bounty took them there, where they dropped through the roof of the building on an anchor. Kai and the others chased the panicking Lloyd through the building until they reached the roof. There, Pythor stole Lloyd's map of the Serpentine Tombs and disappeared. The ninja took Lloyd back to the Bounty and found that Master Wu was reading him a bedtime story.

They were confused as to why he was read a bedtime story after causing so much trouble, and Master Wu revealed the answer to the riddle- the best way to defeat your enemy, is to make him your friend.

Can of Worms

Kai discovered one day that all of his high scores had been replaced by Lloyd who at the time blamed it on Cole.

Lloyd screwed with the other Ninjas' hobbies as well, ruining Jay's robot, Cole's chili, and turning Zane's gi pink, but he was eventually caught, and reprimanded by the ninja. They tried to snitch on him to Wu, but he revealed that he put Lloyd up to it to teach the ninja "the destructive power of rumors."

After this turn of events, Nya revealed that she had located the Constrictai and Venomari serpentine tombs. Kai and Jay took the Venomari tomb while Zane and Cole took the Constrictai tomb.

Kai hallucinating

They arrived in the Toxic Bogs and found that the tomb had already been opened. They soon found that they were being ambushed. Kai was intoxicated with Venomari venom and began to see elves and gingerbread men attacking him. Jay attempted to protect him while Kai is trembling from the visions. Cole and Zane arrived but were followed by Pythor and the Constrictai. As the two tribes surrounded them, the ninja believed they will not survive the next attack.

Kai hallucinated that a rope was in front of him, only for an actual rope to appear moments later. Suddenly, a mysterious Samurai in a massive robotic mech appeared and scared away the Serpentine. The Samurai saved the ninja but knocked them unconscious. They were soon saved by Wu in the Bounty.

Back on the ship, the ninja were eating dinner (while Kai was still intoxicated,) while telling Lloyd and the others about the mysterious samurai. Kai insisted that he had weapons coming out from every part of him, but the ninja reminded the others that he was sprayed with the Venomari venom.

They got an alert later on that the Serpentine had been spotted in Ninjago City, and the ninja quickly ascended there, expecting to find a massive serpentine gathering in the streets (at this point Kai's intoxication wears off.) They found that the Serpentine had gathered underneath the city, and ventured below.

They found Pythor giving a speech to the serpentine tribes, attempting to unite them. The ninja knew this was a bad sign, so they used the destructive power of rumors to try and ruin his assembly. They were eventually caught and were chased throughout the sewers. Kai, Cole, and Jay were quickly captured, and Zane was left trying to escape from them.

After using his pink gi to distract the snakes, he broke out Kai and the others and they escaped, having ruined Pythor's plans.

Later on, back on the Bounty, Lloyd apologized for messing with the Ninja's things and revealed that he had cleaned Zane's gi.

The Snake King

The ninja were eating breakfast talking about the Samurai when Kai offered the other ninja a bet: whoever found out the identity of Samurai X, they will be the best and the green ninja.

The ninja agreed to the terms but were interrupted by the arrival of the mailman, who had brought them their new ninja suits. As they were checking the new merchandise, they got an alert that some snakes had been spotted at Mega Monster Amusement Park. They put on their new suits, and arrived at the park to find that the serpentine had already been apprehended by the Samurai.

The ninja made it their mission to catch this samurai, and they split up separately to do so. Kai attempted to capture him when he found him in the Wildwood Forest but he quickly captured Kai in a net.

Later, when it was his turn to look after Lloyd, he dropped him off at an arcade, then left, hoping to find the Samurai. After finding Lloyd missing, the ninja went looking for him at the Lost City of Ouroboros.

The ninja got trapped in a cage that Pythor set up knowing they would come, and stole their golden weapons. He forced them to battle the Samurai X to entertain the other Serpentine, and they found out that they were no match for him.

In a strange turn of events, the Samurai helped them escape while stealing back their Golden Weapons.

The ninja and Samurai X crash landed somewhere nearby and were left scattered. Kai regrouped himself and found that he landed near the Samurai. He walked up to him and found that their secret identity was none other than his sister the whole time! Nya implored him that he doesn't tell the others her secret, to which he told her about the bet he made with them.

He sees what this meant to her, and agreed to keep quiet. Nya gave him back the Golden Weapons, and he and the ninja returned home separately than Nya.

Back at the Bounty, the others interrogated Kai about the encounter he had with the Samurai. Stumbling over her pronouns, he told them that she- he, just handed him the Golden Weapons and left, which was a lie. The ninja had a hard time believing this but carried on their meal.

Tick Tock

As the ninja continued to train, they became capable of impressive feats; Kai was able to run across a long path of red-hot coals with no ill effects. Later, he timed Zane as he sat underwater, expressing bewilderment as his white-clad ally remained beneath the waves for over ten minutes. After Zane finally returned to the ship, Kai and the others began speculating whether they had reached their full potential, and decided to ask Master Wu before they jumped to conclusions.

When Kai and the others found Master Wu, he was packing his things, seemingly in preparation for a journey. Kai presented the Ninjas' question, but Wu quickly shut down the notion. He told them that when they find the key, they will know.

They changed the topic, and asked their Master about the katana he is holding, and he told them the story.

When Wu and Garmadon were young they were the best of friends. One day while they were playing sword fighting in the monastery, Wu's blade was knocked over the fence. Fearing that their father would be mad, Wu refused to go and retrieve it. His brother reminded him not to put off until tomorrow what can be done today, and went after it himself.

Garmadon hopped the wall, and reached for the blade, only to be bitten by a snake. He fell ill, and Wu reminded the others that that snake was the Great Devourer, the same snake that Pythor wanted to resurrect. . . Its venom turned his brother into the Dark Lord.

After his story, he said that he was leaving to find someone who could be of aid in finding Lloyd.

Later, Kai and the others put posters up to find the Fangblades, which Pythor needed to resurrect the Devourer. Zane stopped putting up the flyers and noticed the Falcon. The others remarked that whenever they follow it, it brought them good fortune, so they chased after it. They followed it through Ninjago, hoping it will lead them to a Fangblade.

Exhausted Kai

After chasing it for miles, Kai and the others began succumbing to exhaustion, telling Zane to continue following the Falcon into a snowy woodland.

The ninja eventually picked themselves up and found Zane to be horrified by something he had uncovered in an old workshop; Zane was an android. Kai and the others still accepted him and didn't seem bothered by the revelation, they even thought it's pretty cool (with Jay referring to Zane as a "Nindroid.")

The other ninja left Zane to think and immersed back outside. Creatures referred to as Treehorns attacked them, and they were quickly defeated by them. Zane returned and found his friends in trouble, and helped fight back.

The queen treehorn emerged, but using his newfound powers, Zane freezed the Queen as the other Treehorns retreated. While the other ninja were happy for Zane for being the first to unlock his True Potential, Zane proclaimed with confidence that they were going to find Pythor.

Once Bitten, Twice Shy

While watching Nya explain the venom process of a Fangpyre, Jay tried to impress her with men's cologne but found out that Kai and the others had pranked him by giving Jay perfume, which Nya was allergic to.

Later on, the ninja found that a Fangblade was at Mega Monster Amusement Park, and prepared to go there to acquire it. Jay attempted to go on a date with Nya at the park but Kai warned him not to, telling him "to get his priorities straight."

Kai and Cole

The ninja discovered a ride that had Serpentine activity near it. The ninja discovered the Serpentine excavating the Fangblade and Kai declared a fight. Kai gained the upper hand in the fight along with the others but a mistake on Zane's part caused them to get frozen from one of his attacks. Kai and the others escaped their confinement and Jay was revealed to have gained his True Potential while Nya was discovered by all the other ninja to be Samurai X.

Kai bragged that he was the first to have found out and therefore should be the green ninja, but the other ninja claimed to not remember ever discussing that.

The Royal Blacksmiths

The ninja, upset at losing the Fangblade, brainstormed for where the next Fangblade would be. Cole brought up that he knew about a trophy called the Blade Cup that seemed to be a Fangblade that his father once won at a talent show.

The ninja went to Cole's father and disguised themselves as dancers as to not cause suspicion around Cole's dad, who was unaware of Cole being a ninja.

They discovered the Blade Cup was located at a talent show and entered it as a cover to steal it. Lou trained Kai and the others to dance, however, the Serpentine had also discovered the Fangblade's location and disguised themselves as people in the audience, judges, and performers.

The ninja were preparing inside the backstage of Concert Hall. However, Jay and Kai began arguing when they continuously messed up the routine. Cole interrupted by saying that they will be leaving soon after their theft, Jay replying that they should try to win it. Having overheard the conversation, Lou confronted them about it. Cole took the opportunity to explain to him the situation of having lied to his father for many years, revealing that he is a ninja. He informed Lou that if they do not steal it themselves, the Serpentine will instead. Regardless, Lou was unaccepting of his son for wanting to steal the prize, storming out of the room. While the ninja comforted Cole, a group of disguised Serpentine called the Treble Makers appeared backstage. Kai heard Pythor's voice from the crowd, peering out from behind the curtains to see the General among the judges.

The other judges said that Pythor looks nothing like how he did in the photo, Pythor coming up with an excuse before the voice of the former judge alerted the others of his situation from Pythor's stomach. The other judges gazed in disbelief, Pythor quickly persuading the noisy judge to quiet down.

Kai told the ninja of the Serpentine, and when Jay finally agreed to steal the Blade Cup, Cole instead decided that they will win it.

The Treble Makers singed on stage, the crowd booing as Pythor gave the performance a perfect ten. The other judges each gave it a six, but Pythor intimidated them into flipping their scorecards.

The ninja were called up on stage, though as they linger backstage, Zane confessed to having butterflies in his stomach. They then shared a few encouraging words among themselves, going on stage by the name of Spin Harmony. As they danced in perfect sync, Skales ordered the Hypnobrai to attack. However, the attack only intensified their performance, the ninja incorporating defending themselves in their routine. When the Fangpyre joined the ambush, Cole then used the opportunity to perform the Triple Tiger Sashay with success.

The ninja won the talent show and Cole's father was proud that they won the trophy without cheating as the Serpentine tried to do. Pythor then attacked and nearly killed Cole's father, but Cole protected him and gained his True Potential while the Serpentine managed to steal the Fangblade, making Kai the only ninja left to find his True Potential.

The Green Ninja

Master Wu finally returned and surprises them by bringing Lord Garmadon, who had now grown four arms.

Kai attacked Garmadon, assuming the worst, but Master Wu revealed that he was helping them search for Lloyd and ordered the ninja to respect him during their temporary alliance.

Kai got more skeptical about Lord Garmadon and at one point overheard a conversation about the green ninja between Nya and Master Wu. Lord Garmadon discovered Kai eavesdropping and the two fought, only to be broken up by Nya and Master Wu.

Later on, Kai searched for the Golden Weapons and discovered Garmadon was holding them. Thinking he was stealing them, Kai battled Garmadon and "won." He expected to have unlocked his true potential, however, Garmadon revealed that he allowed himself to be defeated, as he was only fetching the weapons for the ninja since they were heading over to their destination; this was confirmed when Master Wu told Kai that he was the one who told Garmadon to fetch them. Realizing this, the other ninja scolded Kai for his foolishness, leaving him humiliated. Despite the situation taken care of, Kai still retained his suspicion towards Garmadon.

After discovering the next Fangblade was located at the Fire Temple, the Destiny's Bounty arrived there and the group traveled inside. They watched as the Serpentine dug for the Fangblade, Jay quickly pointing out Lloyd's location in a cage. Rattla uncovered the Fangpyre Fangblade, much to Pythor's pleasure. While Pythor gleefully gazed at the Fangblade, he noticed the ninja in the reflection and ordered the tribes to attack.

The ninja quickly fended them off, though as Pythor left the Temple, he commanded Bytar and Chokun to drill holes in the walls to allow the rising lava to quicken. Jay announced that they must leave as the Temple was becoming unstable, but Lord Garmadon ran after the Serpentine in an attempt to retrieve his son. Seeing that Lloyd was causing the trouble, Pythor ordered the Serpentine to get rid of the caged boy by dropping him to the landing below. Lord Garmadon continued to fight the Serpentine to get the cage, finally reaching it and pulling up his son before his cage could fully melt in the lava.

Kai then rushed up the steps in order to obtain the Fangblade, flinging the Sword of Fire at the Fangblade impaling it in the wall. A furious Pythor attempted to pull it out, but Skales alerted him that they must leave at once, Pythor complying as the lava shot up at them. Everyone except for Kai met up at the exit and Lloyd called out to his missing teammate as Kai made his way to the Fangblade. However, the ground beneath Lloyd broke loose, causing him to fall down to the lava below. The group watched in horror as Lloyd stood on the sinking piece of land.

Meanwhile, Kai finally pulled his sword out of the wall, but the Fangblade fell down below, landing just above the lava. Kai tried to grab it but chose to save Lloyd instead when the latter cried out for help. He grabbed Lloyd and tried to escape, but they became surrounded by lava spewing into the air.

Unlocking his True Potential

Everyone else reaches the Destiny's Bounty, the entire team distressed as they saw lava exploding out of the volcano. In the middle of their remorse, they suddenly saw a fireball appear from the volcano, which floated toward the Destiny's Bounty to reveal Kai and Lloyd inside. Having unlocked his True Potential, Kai stood proudly, only to fall to the ground in exhaustion.

The ninja cheered for Kai; even Garmadon genuinely thanked him for saving Lloyd. Kai then admitted that the reason why he unlocked his True Potential: he had a realization after reflecting of his failed intent to get the Fangblade (which later ended up being found by Pythor), he realized that his true destiny was not to become the green ninja, but to protect Lloyd, who was revealed as the true green ninja; this was confirmed when the Golden Weapons levitated in a green light next to Lloyd's presence. Realizing this, Wu finally realized that Kai and the rest of the ninja were tasked to train Lloyd to become the green ninja, but was very saddened by the fact that Lloyd and Lord Garmadon will have to face each other in the future for the sake of Ninjago, something which both a horrified Garmadon and Lloyd didn't expect. Upon realizing this, Kai expressed an empathetic face, seeing how complicated it would be for Lord Garmadon and his son to be fighting each other due to their relationship.

All of Nothing

The ninja found and cornered Spitta and forced him to give them information on Pythor's whereabouts. Spitta told them that they were days behind him, as he was already on the way to the next fangblade.

Back aboard the Bounty, Lloyd suggested that while Pythor was away, they should go to the Serpentine's inner sanctum to retrieve the other three Fangblades. The ninja quickly found the snakes inner sanctum hidden inside the Constrictai Tomb, and Lloyd and Lord Garmadon stayed behind.

Inside the tomb, the ninja attempted to defeat the snakes, but to no avail. The ninja were quickly captured and were forced to contact Lloyd for help.

Kai and Pythor

Lloyd and Garmadon got into an argument, resulting in Garmadon leaving without telling where he is going. Lloyd then got a message from Nya asking for reinforcements, and Lloyd finally went on his first mission as the green ninja.

Meanwhile, Kai and the others attempted to escape but were quickly recaptured by Pythor who now had all four Fangblades.

The Serpentine wanted to celebrate with a Slither Pit tournament, which Pythor agreed to. Lloyd arrived but comically fell down right in front of Pythor. Just before he was captured, however, Garmadon arrived with the Skeleton Army. Lloyd freed the ninja from their cage, and together they stole the four Fangblades and went back to Destiny's Bounty where Lord Garmadon left, making Lloyd upset.

The ninja were having a party for Lloyd getting the Fangblades, but little did they know that Pythor was outside their very window, plotting revenge.

The Rise of the Great Devourer

Unaware that Pythor had snuck aboard the Destiny's Bounty, the ninja planned to throw the Fangblades into Torchfire Mountain. This failed when Pythor revealed his location to them, and stole the fangblades back, knocking Master Wu off the deck and clinging to the side. Kai and the others just barely saved him and found that Pythor had escaped on a Rattlecopter with the Fangblades and took control over a tour bus.

The ninja intervened, and Kai fought off Serpentine on the top of the bus and was nearly knocked onto the road. Eventually, Master Wu detached the engine from the rest of the train and confronted Pythor, much to Kai's dismay.

The bus crashed into the Lost City of Ouroboros, halting the ninjas' transportation. Fortunately, Lloyd arrived and took them aboard the Destiny's Bounty. Just as Kai and the others attempted to save Master Wu, Pythor unleashed the Great Devourer.

Day of the Great Devourer

After watching Wu and Pythor get eaten by the Devourer, Kai quickly lead the ninja and the others back to the Destiny's Bounty. The Devourer chased them down, and the ninja did all they could to ensure their escape. Unfortunately, the massive snake got too fast, and they were forced to evacuate the Bounty.

The ninja were forced to watch as the devourer, in one big bite, crushed the entire ship, and they ran away.

As Jay began to admit defeat, Kai inspired the team with some words of wisdom from Wu.

The team then heads to Ed and Edna's junkyard on their vehicles. It was there that Kai revealed the blueprints for the Ultra Sonic Raider. While there they discovered that the Great Devourer has followed them, they used the Tornado of Creation to build the Raider out of all the scrap at the junkyard to defend themselves against it. In the battle, Kai discovered the Devourer had a weak spot on its forehead. The ninja managed to drive it away from the area but Zane was injured during the conflict.

Realizing the serpent was heading to Ninjago City, Kai and the others followed it to its destination. While the creature began destroying the city, the ninja arrived and attacked it. The fight was interrupted by the ninja's Dragons returning as the Ultra Dragon.

Kai and the others cheered their respective Dragon on until the Devourer gained the upper hand and knocked it into a building. Lord Garmadon arrived and alerted the ninja that the only way to truly destroy the Devourer was with the Golden Weapons, and he was the only one that was able to possess all four.

Kai was reluctant to hand him the weapons but eventually agreed. Kai and the others lead the snake around the city, eventually trapping it biting its own tail. The ninja watched as Garmadon jumped from a building and struck the creature's head with the weapons, causing it to explode into a mass of green goo.

Kai was annoyed when the Golden Weapons are nowhere to be seen, but rejoiced when he discovered that Master Wu was alive. Victorious, the ninja celebrated and were preparing to help Lloyd reach his full potential.

Legacy of the Green Ninja

Darkness Shall Rise

In the aftermath of the Great Devourer's defeat, Kai and his friends spent much time cleaning up the great serpent's venom from around the city.

As the ninja adjusted to their reduced powers (thanks to the loss of their Golden Weapons), their thoughts turned to finding a new home and training Lloyd for the inevitable battle with Lord Garmadon. They met with a realtor, and she suggested they train Lloyd in the Ninja Suite, but Kai scoffed at the expense.

Deciding that they needed to live in comfort before they could properly train Lloyd, the ninja opted for a lavish suite and took up jobs around the city to pay for the rent, with Kai taking up a job as an entertainer at children's parties.

Being occupied by their new jobs, the ninja had limited time to train Lloyd, due to being too tired once they got back from work.

One day, the Serpentine suddenly robbed a bank, and Kai, who was entertaining nearby, ran off the job to get there, resulting in him getting fired. Kai and Zane met Cole there, who was in the middle of being fired as a security guard when they Cole remembered that he heard that the snakes were taking the subway.

They made their way down there and hopped onto an oncoming train that was occupied by the snakes. They entered the train, and fought with the snakes as best they could without their powers. Eventually, they found that Jay was walking, albeit tied up, along the rails. They stopped the train in time to save him but allowed the Serpentine to retreat.

The ninja returned to their home and found Lloyd missing. They realized that they should never have left Lloyd, and should never have taken those jobs. At that moment, Wu, Nya, and Lloyd arrived. Lloyd revealed that he wouldn't have been okay if Sensei and Nya hadn't saved him.

Dissatisfied with their jobs, they moved into a smaller, dinkier apartment where they would be able to train Lloyd without any distractions.

Pirates vs. Ninja

Kai and the other ninja began to properly train Lloyd, though soon realized their apartment wasn't the most suitable place. Wu sent them out into the city to look for a better training ground and they soon found Grand Sensei Dareth's Mojo Dojo. There they asked the owner Dareth if they could share the space to which he agreed if one of them could best him in a fight. While Dareth was showing off all his animal styles, Kai used Spinjitzu to send him to the ground, thus winning the fight.

Following their first session of training Lloyd in the dojo, the ninja left the dojo to find the city under attack by Captain Soto's pirates. The ninja quickly boarded a bus and raced towards the boat. After stopping by Wong's Costume to disguise themselves as pirates, Kai and the others boarded the ship and confronted Soto's crew. After a brief fight and with the help of the ninja, the pirates were eventually subdued.

Double Trouble

Jay assisted in helping Lloyd use his green ninja power to light a light bulb at Dareth's Mojo Dojo. Despite the ninja's encouragement, Lloyd failed to light a light bulb and became mad. Just then, Nya rushed into the room carrying a letter stating that Lloyd's old school, Darkley's School for Bad Boys, has changed to Darkley's School for Great Children and that they wanted to Lloyd to receive an honorary award of excellence.

Kai and the others flew on the Ultra Dragon to the school where they were locked inside a room and discovered that the students there had set it all up to get revenge on Lloyd. After very careful thinking, Kai and the ninja escaped the 'prison' only to find that Garmadon had created evil duplicates of the ninja, who had infiltrated the school and were attacking the students. The ninja could not let the evil ninja hurt anyone, so they attacked their evil counterparts. They would have been defeated if it weren't for the students coming to the rescue and confusing the evil ninja, who let their guard down and were defeated.

Ninjaball Run

Kai, along with the other ninja, competed in the Ninjaball Run to win the prize of $100,000 in order to save Dareth's Mojo Dojo. The ninja raced in the Ultra Sonic Raider. Lloyd flew on the Ultra Dragon so that they had a better chance of winning the race. They raced through dangerous terrain, and eventually Lloyd and his dragon crashed putting him out of the race.

The ninja struggled to maintain a lead, especially when Garmadon entered the race. But thanks to a lever installed giving the Ultra Sonic Raider flight, and a piece of Ed and Edna's car Jay took after they crashed, the ninja won the race and claimed back the Destiny's Bounty in the process.

Child's Play

As the ninja were trying to train Lloyd, they found out that he was anticipating to get the new issue of the "Starfarer" comic. Nya then came in to tell them to stop Garmadon, who broke into the Museum. After stopping them from reviving the Grundle, they realized they were turned into kids. When noting the Serpentine were stealing a sarcophagus, they chased them but noticed they were kids and that Garmadon's Mega Weapon did work. Eventually, the police came and accused them of stealing.

The Curator forgave them, asked what happened to the Grundal bones, which were missing. They explained it had been revived, but they didn't believe them, prompting them to escape by disguising themselves. They called Lloyd to meet them at Buddy's Pizza with their weapons. Lloyd then told them he knew who can help them.

They went into a comic book store, where Lloyd introduced them to Rufus McCallister. Rufus explained weapons were no use against the Grundal and that light, such as from an illumisword, can defeat it. After hearing they must be won through a competition, the ninja motivated Lloyd to enter.

Lloyd, however, lost just before the Grundal came. They tried to get the door open, but it was jammed. They grabbed the illumiswords, but they easily broke. Wu gave them the Tomorrow's Tea but hesitated to turn Lloyd into a teen. Lloyd threw the tea for them, ultimately defeating the Grundal.

Wrong Place, Wrong Time

Lord Garmadon used the Mega Weapon to go back in time and make it so that Lloyd would never become the green ninja. The ninja figured out his plan and jumped into the portal Garmadon had previously created. They found themselves in Ignacia, at the time Wu came to Kai's shop and even before Skulkins attacked the land. They caught old Wu and explained to him about the situation. This time, the skeletons didn't kidnap Nya, and Kai from the past had no will to become a ninja. Wu then lead him and Nya to the monastery. The ninja decided to dress like skeletons and kidnap Nya so past Kai could get a reason to become the ninja. They did that, and Garmadon took Nya to the Fire Temple. Present Kai revealed himself to his past self, and they worked together to defeat Garmadon. They succeeded by destroying the Mega Weapon and Kai, along with other ninja, came back safely.

The Stone Army

After the ninja reluctantly woke up for sunrise exercises, Wu told them they have to clean up the Ultra Dragon. They left Lloyd to do the job alone, but after he said it's not fair, they played a round of Rock, Paper, Clamp, with Lloyd losing. Before he started cleaning, he informed them that he lived at Darkley's School most of his life and that he doesn't remember his mother. Nya came along and told them the Museum needs their assistance.

The museum's curator showed them to the gift shop and said the Great Devourer's venom bought the Stone Warrior merchandise to life. The ninja tried to keep it under control but wrecked the place in the process. When the ninja met up with Wu, he introduced them to Misako, Lloyd's mother. When Misako tries to explain to Lloyd why she abandoned him, the ninja watched him as he walked away.

After finding Misako and Lloyd at the Bottomless Pit exhibit, Misako explained to them about the Overlord. When the Giant Stone Warrior burst in, Kai was told to defeat it, but his katana broke and was thrown into a large vase. They eventually ran from the Warrior. Lloyd told them to distract him, to which Kai and the others agreed. They did just that, but have to run away after it broke free.

The Day Ninjago Stood Still

Kai helped train Lloyd to fight without using his eyes in Dareth's dojo, but they were soon interrupted by a series of earthquakes. They halted their training to tune into the news and learned that the aftershocks were getting worse. Kai immediately blamed Garmadon, though Misako pointed out that the Dark Lord would never do anything to harm his son.

The ninja began to patrol the city for danger and even save a woman who was trapped by the collapsing street. The city soon falls under attack by the Stone Army and Master Wu orders the ninja to send everyone to the NGTV office tower where they can be evacuated by the Destiny's Bounty. The citizens all climb to the roof while the ninja hold off the Stone Warriors using the Ultra Sonic Raider and the Ultra Dragon. Kai continues to help hold off the Stone Army.

The Last Voyage

Kai, Dareth, and Nya

The ninja sail to the Dark Island on the flightless Destiny's Bounty. Along the way, they run into a storm and the ship-eating Starteeth. When the storm passes the ship, which now is missing a rudder and has a hole in the side, the ship runs ashore on Lighthouse Island. After Dr. Julien told him the Skulklin trapped him there, he agreed to help fix the Bounty. The ninja and Dr. Julien left the prison and continued their journey to the Dark Island.

Island of Darkness

The ninja finally arrive on the Island of Darkness, where the Stone Army is preparing for the final battle. The ninja learn that the Temple of Light is where they can receive their elemental powers. In order to do this, the ninja must use a medallion to find the temple. Later Jay was able to find the Temple of Light by aligning three lights with the holes in the medallion—the temple is at the top of the island's highest mountain.

In the Temple of Light

With their new vehicles, the ninja head for the Temple of Light, barely keeping ahead of the Stone Army. Inside the Temple, they find pictures on the walls depicting their journey from the past until the present. Further in is a great bell, hanging above a strange design on the floor bearing the Ninja's symbols. Realizing that it's the Instrument of Peace, Lloyd strikes it, causing a light to shine on him and beams of energy to reflect off crystals in the walls. Soon, the entire room is crisscrossed with beams, and one hits a pillar, making it glow brightly. At the foot of the pillar, Kai's armor transforms, and an Elemental Blade with the power of Fire appears in his hand as well as the other ninja. As their swords manifest blades representing their respective elements, Lloyd rises into the air. The ninja use their swords to send their elemental powers to Lloyd.

The Stone Army finally marches into the Temple, but the ninja are more than ready for them—using their new elemental powers, they easily trounce the warriors. Kai beats up some soldiers within a ring of fire. Finally, Lloyd summons the power of the Golden Dragon, creating a brilliant light that frightens the remaining stone soldiers into retreat.

The Last Hope

At the beach, Dr. Julien repairs the Falcon, while the ninja celebrate their restored powers by shooting down coconuts. The party is interrupted by Master Wu, who chastises the ninja for their unseemly mirth; they may have the power to defeat the Stone Army, but the Celestial Clock is still counting down to the final battle between light and darkness. At that, Misako reveals a way to at least delay the battle: if the Helmet of Shadows is returned to its pedestal, the countdown might stop long enough for them to gain an advantage. Risking everything, the ninja disguise themselves as Stone Warriors and escort Misako to Lord Garmadon's camp. As General Kozu takes Misako to his master's tent, the disguised ninja are put to work carrying Dark Matter to the super-weapon. The weapon is surrounded by a wooden wall, but the ninja notice one protruding detail—a very large cannon—and ponder what Garmadon plans to attack with it. Later the ninja are, forcing them to fight their way back down to the entrance as Misako rejoins them.

The ninja make their escape with Misako and Nya in the power drill, but the Stone Army pursues them until the Overlord reminds Lord Garmadon that the ninja could turn the army against him if they don the Helmet. After a frantic chase that ends in the Power Drill being disabled momentarily, Garmadon goes for the kill, only for Lloyd to blast it with his powers. Lord Garmadon emerges from the wreckage, weakened and vulnerable; from the Power Drill, the ninja encourage Lloyd to finish him off. Despite everything at stake, the Green ninja is unable to strike the fatal blow, forcing him to jump aboard the Power Drill as the ninja make their escape from the advancing Stone Army.

At the Celestial Clock, the ninja meet with Master Wu and desperately look for the Helmet's pedestal with minutes to spare. As the Stone Army arrives, the ninja find the pedestal and replace the Helmet, but it's one second too late; the countdown has ended and the final battle is upon them. As the clock fires a mighty energy flare inland, the Stone Army captures Nya and the ninja are sent down into a crevasse. Surviving the fall, the ninja head off to prepare for the final battle.

Return of the Overlord

Kai returned with the other ninja to the beach where the Bounty was hidden and met up with Dr. Julien. As Wu and Misako attempted to raise Lloyd's spirits to face his father in the final battle, Kai pledged his fire to the Green ninja and prepared for battle.

The heroes set off to Garmadon's camp, intending to begin the final battle, but were surprised to find it deserted upon arrival. Misako quickly realized that the Stone Army intended to use the ultimate weapon on Ninjago to shift the balance and allow the Overlord to cross over, thus the ninja followed the machine's tracks in the hopes of stopping it before it was fired.

As the ninja ran, they recalled memories of their past adventures until they were ambushed by Nya, who had been turned evil by Garmadon's Dark Matter. Kai urged Wu, Misako, and Lloyd to continue on ahead while he and the other ninja fended Nya off.

While at first having a hard time stopping for fear of injuring his sister, Kai quickly realized a way to trap Nya using their Elemental Powers, and before long they were on their way again.

The ninja arrived at the beach in time to witness the Overlord take control of Garmadon's body, having fired enough Dark Matter into Ninjago to allow him to cross over. Reassuring Lloyd that they stood behind him, Kai and the other ninja raced into battle to defeat the Stone Army. Kai used his Elemental Blade to cut one of the Stone Army's machines in half before commandeering one of Garmatron's cannons. As Lloyd faced the Overlord, Kai watched with the other ninja as their comrade was defeated. The Overlord proceeded to open a portal to Ninjago, though it closed just as the Red ninja attempted to pass through it.

Rise of the Spinjitzu Master

Hitching a ride on Kai's Fire Robot, the ninja returned to the Temple of Light, where they activated a hidden mechanism that revealed the Golden Mech. When Lloyd sat in the cockpit, his powers as the Chosen One restored the ancient machine to fighting form. With the Ultra Dragon's arrival to the Island of Darkness, the group was able to return to Ninjago City, only to find it infected with Dark Matter and ruled by the Overlord, now restored to his monstrous true form. Despite their fighting prowess, the heroes were almost overwhelmed by the Stone Army, only to be saved when Dareth donned the Helmet of Shadows and took command of the ancient soldiers.

Kai and the other ninja proceeded to ascend the tower but only to watch them fall victim to the Overlord's corruption. Later he distracts Nya and Lloyd was forced to limp up to the top of the tower alone, where the Overlord was waiting. In the aftermath of the Overlord's defeat, all of his creations and corruption vanished. Kai reunited with his sister and allies in the crater left by the Garmatron's disappearance; he is even surprised to see that Garmadon has been transformed back to his good self thanks to Lloyd's victory over the Overlord. Watching Garmadon reunite with Misako and Lloyd, Kai shoots down Jay's intent of dogpiling the family by suggesting that they let them walk away to a peaceful moment.

Following the defeat of the Overlord, Ninjago entered an era of peace. Without an enemy to fight, the Ninja were no longer needed and thus began teaching at Master Wu's Academy. At one point, Kai was caught on video by Jay singing in the shower.

During a break on a rather stressful day, Nya approached Kai and the other Ninja and informed them they had received clearance for a field trip to Borg Industries. This didn't interest the Red Ninja who believed people should be learning from the past instead of wasting time on new technology, though he boarded the bus anyway.

Upon arriving at Borg Tower, Kai became stuck between the automatic doors, freeing himself just in time to board the elevator with the other Ninja as Cyrus Borg had requested to see them personally. After being introduced to the inventor, Kai questioned why the tower had been built atop where the Overlord had been defeated. Borg then presented them with a statue of himself as a gift for the Ninja, but promptly pulled Kai aside and ordered the Red Ninja to protect "them" with his life.

As the Ninja left with the statue, they accidentally dropped it and discovered new gis and the Techno Blades inside. Suddenly a robotic security voice in the elevator says that they should drop the blades. The Ninja refused, and the elevator drops toward the ground at high speed. The Ninja luckily escape into an elevator going up right next to it and manage to get their new outfits on for battle in their escape from Borg Tower.

When they get down of the tower, Master Wu takes the Techno Blades and says that he wants Kai and Zane in the air. Kai jumps on Zane's copter and hacks an enemy airplane, making it the Kai Fighter and reaching the outer space. While he was flying, Cyrus Borg gives him a visual message saying that a few weeks ago they discovered that new virus, Digital Overlord, in the industries' system. He also says that they have to bring the Techno Blades out of the city because if he finds out that they have them, he will never let them leave. After that, Kai gets into the sky fight with virus controlled planes. At the moment they almost get destructed, Lloyd comes on the Golden Dragon, defeating the robots. As the Ninja get back into the vehicles and get on the road outside of the city, Overlord spots that Wu is getting away with the Techno Blades so he sends two copters that capture him on the building roof. However before that happened, Wu quickly dropped Techno Blades into Kai's Fighter so the Ninjas could safely get them out of the city, while Wu gets captured by Overlord's forces.

The Art of the Silent Fist

After escaping from New Ninjago City, the Ninja hide their vehicles. Misako then greets them and shows them to the Monastery, but Zane offers to stay behind with the Techno Blades, as Garmadon (who is now "Master Garmadon,") forbids any weapons in his monastery. As night falls, Garmadon arrives and teaches the Ninja and his students about "the art of the silent fist." While everyone inside is practicing the technique, Zane catches P.I.X.A.L. and ties her up, then returns to the monastery as the Ninja come out to see what is going on. Zane then uses his Techno Blade to hack P.I.X.A.L.'s systems, freeing her from the Overlord's control. Grateful to Zane for saving her, P.I.X.A.L. tells the Ninja of Master Wu.

Suddenly, P.I.X.A.L. realizes she did not come alone and Nindroids surround the place. The Ninja successfully defeat the Nindroids by trapping them into a mill wheel which then rolls out. However, General Cryptor destroys the Ninja's vehicles. After that, the Ninja decides to split. Jay, Zane, Cole, Kai, and Nya gets an idea to shut down the power in the city to stop virus controlling machines in the land. As night falls, they arrive at the station, but with a high guard of Nindroids. They manage to get inside but can't find a way to break the power charge. When Cryptor sends Nindroids inside, Kai remembers Garmadon's lesson of fighting without fighting so they decide to lure Nindroids to destroy the charge which then explodes and all the power disappears, including P.I.X.A.L. who gets shut down

Blackout

The Ninja have gone to Ed & Edna's Scrap N Junk to look for parts that would enable Zane's hover-copter to run on solar power. While Ed, Jay, Cole, and Kai search through the junk piles, Nya transfers half of Zane's power source to P.I.X.A.L. Unbeknownst to the Ninja, Techno Wu arrives via hover-copter and powers Cryptor, along with a few Nindroid Warriors, using Electro-Cobrai. After activating a few Nindroids, Min-Droid sneaks and gets access to Ed & Edna's crane. The tiny droid uses the crane and launches the truck at a garbage pile.

Kai realizes and quickly informs his friends; the Ninja perform Spinjitzu and get out of the fallen vehicle, while Ed and Edna escape using bubble jet-packs. Meanwhile, Jay and Cole are captured, Kai battles Wu clanging their weapons against one another. Eventually Wu manages to fling Kai away. Nya frees Jay and Cole and they assist Kai. However, Wu traps the Ninja in a corner, but Zane and P.I.X.A.L. come with a magnified vehicle and pick up Wu since he is now part metal. The Ninja are excited but quickly ends when the Stranger frees Wu and flies away with their via hover-copter. However, the Stranger leaves a scale behind. Nya decides to give Lloyd and Garmadon a message.

The Curse of the Golden Master

The Hover-copter was eventually converted to solar power, the Ninja returned to New Ninjago City with Nya and P.I.X.A.L. There, they reunited with Borg and explained their suspicions as to who stole the hard-drive containing the Overlord.

They eventually came across the tomb of the Stone Army, only to find the seal had been opened. Upon confronting Skales, they learned that the Serpentine had reformed and the Snake King even had a son. The Ninja and Nya were lead to a campfire where Acidicus told them of the Curse of the Golden Master, and how they believed it was referring to Lloyd. While the Ninja discussed the curse, Nya expressed her confusion that if the Serpentine didn't take the hard-drive, who was the culprit.

Both questions had to be put on hold though, as Nindroids suddenly attacked the place, and Kai ordered the other Ninja and Nya to protect the Serpentine. The Ninja finds out that the Electro-Cobrai are their power source. Skales tells them at the Curse of the Golden Master is upon them, and says that they would not be able to assist the Ninja because they're choosing to stay out of the conflict. The Ninja then return to the surface, but not before Skales telling them the one Serpentine that is fond of Electro-Cobrai: Pythor.

Enter the Digiverse

Golden Kai

In the top of the Borg Tower, Borg prepares the device that will lead the Ninja to the Digiverse, where the digital overlord was, a digital world where they will be able to gain access to the Tower's central computer and fight the Overlord directly. When Jay points out that the hard drive is still missing, Borg explains the device will "download" the Ninja themselves, along with the Techno Blades, into the computer where the Overlord dwells. He also explains that this is the only method to succeed, as it will be a matter of time before the Digital Overlord fully drains Lloyd's power.

Although apprehensive, the Ninja are "downloaded" successfully, and they wake up in the Digiverse. In no time, they begin mastering the advantages of the digital world, except for Kai. the Ninjas begin their trek down toward the Tower's central computer—ironically below the Tower, where the Overlord had been defeated years before. When the Overlord realizes they are close to him, he attempts to immobilize them but fails due to P.I.X.A.L. electronically interfering from outside. He then turns the digitized New Ninjago City upside down, but the Ninja keep moving with their digitized vehicles. Kai almost died when he tries to jump off the digital Borg Tower because his vehicle disappeared, but gets rescued by Zane. Together they get to the top—that is, the bottom—of the tower and insert the Techno Blades only to find the Overlord severed the circuit to the motherboard.

The Ninja are severely beaten by the Overlord as he consumes more of Lloyd's golden power, proclaiming his becoming a true "golden master" of the real world and the digital world. Strengthened by Lloyd's proclamations that the Ninja always have each other's strengths to fight together, Ninjas fights off the Overlord's influence and turns gold and, using Lloyd's shared power, reroute the circuit to the motherboard and completely destroy the Overlord virus from the system, initiating a reboot.

Codename: Arcturus

At the Temple of Light, Lloyd gives up his Golden Power to restore the Ninjas' elemental powers. Meanwhile, at Borg Tower, Master Wu spots General Cryptor aboard a train heading for Ouroborus. going through a road near where Kai is.

Kai stands in a gas station flirting with a girl when P.I.X.A.L. calls him and tells about the Nindroids approaching. He jumps into his Prototype X-1 machine car and heads to the highway. When he comes to the bridge, he accidentally fires rockets to the sky which got spotted by Pythor who was driving in a leading fuel truck with General Cryptor. He then launches Nindroid flyers to hunt him and destroy his car.

Kai successfully repels their attack, but Cryptor fires rockets at a hill above them and soon rocks that got separated from the hill fall down to his car. They block the road, but Kai and P.I.X.A.L. destroy them with rockets. To hunt down General Cryptor's truck, P.I.X.A.L. activates his interception bike which Kai is unable to control so he bumps into the edge of the oil tank. He gets up to its roof and fights Nindroids, using his new fire power and Spinjitzu. This proves to be a mistake as he realizes that his fire power lit up the oil tank and that it's going to explode. Soon they got to a tunnel, where the Min-Droid attacks him. The X-1 machine, remotely driven by P.I.X.A.L, accidentally scrapes an oil tank so gas starts leaking. It soon gets to flame from the sparks of p Min-Droid fighting Kai. When the fire comes to the leaking tank, the whole tank explodes but Kai jumps off to Pythor's truck and saves himself. He stays beneath his truck and hears Pythor talking to the Overlord by radio. He tells people in Borg Industries that the Overlord is alive, but gets captured by Pythor who takes him to the lost city of Ouroboros.

By the time Zane, Cole, Jay, and Lloyd get to Ouroborus, they don't find anything new around until a huge door below them opens and they fall into an underground base where they find a huge rocket called "Arcturus." They realize that the rocket will lead Pythor and his Nindroid minions to space and reach the Golden Weapons from the star where the Mega Weapon was destroyed. Lloyd tries to stop him from lifting the rocket but Overborg stops him. With help from a freed Kai, the other Ninjas hold off the Nindroids with their new elemental powers. Pythor initiates the countdown for the rocket to launch into space, so Lloyd leads the Ninja into it just in time.

The Void

The Ninjas are in the Arcturus rocket as it flies through space. They make contact with Borg Tower and voice their concerns about their current predicament to Wu, Garmadon, Nya, and P.I.X.A.L.

The Ninja put the space suits just as the rocket disengages its unneeded engines. However when they climb up toward the door leading to the cockpit they are attacked by Nindroids, who fire on them with laser guns.

Following Jay's initiative of going commando and learning that their Spinjitzu does not work in zero-gravity, the others take the laser guns too so they successfully repel the attack. Soon the Arcturus enters an incoming comet's tail and is battered by massive ice meteorites.

The Arcturus rocket crashes on the comet's surface where the melted and fused forms of the Golden Weapons are located. The Nindroids and the hidden Ninja discover them as Jay excitedly finds an extraterrestrial beetle. Unfortunately, said bugs eat anything metal—a fact that reaches them from Nya too late. While the Nindroids get away with the golden mass aboard their ROV, the Ninja follow pursuit on their own while using the pursuing bugs against their robotic adversaries. The Ninja eventually succeed in taking Cryptor's ignition key to the rocket, so that they cannot leave the comet with the Golden Weapons and take them to the Overlord.

However, their victory is short-lived when they find another bug swarm among the rocket—chewed up in pieces. Seeing this as well, Cryptor and the other surviving Nindroids use their built-in boosters to fly off the comet with their golden prize. Stranded on the surface with the insects, the Ninja report to the others that they had failed and are not coming back home.

The Titanium Ninja

In space, the Ninja despair after repeated failed attempts to escape. However, Lloyd refuses to give up, suggesting that they use their elemental powers and everything around them to restart the ship. Heartened by Lloyd's words, the Ninja repair the ship and use Zane as a power source. Though Zane gets overheated by the strain, they manage to fly back to the Earth—to land safely, the Ninja uses a new technique: elemental shields.

P.I.X.A.L. uses a motorcycle to catch up with her friends, using her power to land them on their vehicles. As the Ninja reunite with their allies, Cyrus Borg tells them that they should head for the Temple of Fortitude, a place where the Overlord and the First Spinjitzu Master battled long ago. He claims there's a shield at the place, so the Nindroids won't harm them, and there is something he wants to give them that may help them save the world.

The Ninja start traveling to the temple but pause when they see the Golden Master's path of destruction. Lloyd reminds his friends that the only way to save Ninjago is to reach the Temple of Fortitude, but the Overlord sees them and uses a massive Spinjitzu tornado against them. The Ninja swiftly run back, rendezvousing with Cyrus Borg, Wu, and Garmadon. There Cyrus Borg gives them the ultimate weapon—a pill. Borg then explains that it was no ordinary pill, it could make anyone shrink. Garmadon and Wu decide to would hit the pill straight into the Overlord's mouth. Borg gives the Ninja armor which protects them from some attacks from the Overlord.

The Ninja go into Ninjago City, when an item hurls at them but are protected since they have on the armor. Wu hits the pill, which heads straight to the Overlord's mouth, but Pythor sacrifices himself and swallows the pill instead. As a result, Pythor shrinks down to the size of a worm. The Golden Master is outraged that the Ninja tried to shrink him. He obtains the Ninja with his Golden Power only to miss Zane. The Ninja of Ice tells his friends to support him one last time, and the Ninja bounce him. Although, during the process, he landed and touched the Golden Master's gold. He refused to let go, admitting the fact that Ninja never quit, which frees his friends. He remembers his past, and freezes the Overlord which also killed him and the Golden Master. The Ninja are disappointed that Zane has passed, and proceed to his funeral.

Borg makes a speech on how he thought technology was the best way to destroy problems but instead cost more. He now names Zane the Titanium Ninja and passes the microphone to Kai. The Red Ninja claims no one knew what powered Zane, and he thought it was brotherhood because that's how Zane powered him. Saying that Ninja will never be forgotten, Kai says no matter where Zane is, he'll always be part of the team. When he finished his speech, snow began to appear.

Tournament of Elements

The Invitation

Following Zane's sacrifice, the team has split Kai with going to wrestle in an underground Slither Pit known as the "Red Shogun." After a fight, he rests to drink some juice, when Lloyd arrives and asks Kai to return to the team. Kai refuses the offer, saying Lloyd doesn't need a team and wishing it was him who gave his life instead of Zane. Lloyd reminds him he always wants to be the one, using his obsession with becoming the Green Ninja as an example before telling him to think about someone other than himself. Lloyd goes away telling Kai to meet him at a noodle shop as Kai ponders on it.

Very soon, Kai goes to the park to see the statue of Zane as the Titanium Ninja, causing him to reflect on his time with a late friend as he sees the Falcon appear. Kai then decides to take up Lloyd's offer and goes to see him. However, Kai wasn't the only one to meet the Green Ninja at Chen's Noodle House: Jay and Cole had also been convinced and has met Lloyd there too. Lloyd informs the Ninja of his new plan: finding a new Ninja. The others completely dislike the idea, saying Zane was not replaceable and Kai states maybe without Zane there was no team. They quickly get interrupted by Eyezor and his gang who attempt to rob the store. However, the Ninja intervene quickly defeating the thugs who run away.

The Ninja pursue them and go to the back of the shop but see no sign of the thugs and instead, a drawn picture of Zane attached to a shrine with a note stating that he was still alive as well as an invitation to the Tournament of Elements.

They decide to accept and are walking onto the ship when Garmadon comes and tries to stop them, warning them that Master Chen, who invited them, is a dangerous man. Lloyd retorts by saying that they have to find Zane. Against the better judgment of Clouse, Chen's second-in-command, Garmadon, accompanies the Ninja on board, where they meet the other Elemental Masters.

While onboard, Kai and his friends see other people who received invitations and saw they had powers. Kai asked Garmadon why he or Wu never told him there were others with abilities like them as Garmadon explained there were some things they didn't want them to know. He then reveals everyone on board was descended from an Elemental Masters listing a few examples of the others on board. Kai then notes the same went for his sister but states she can't do what he can as Garmadon tells him its possible Nya can as she only needs the power to be awoken to do so.

Kai begins to take an interest in a cloaked woman and questions Garmadon on what her element is, but he didn't know as he'd never seen her before. Soon enough, Kai sees Karlof, the Master of Metal trying to take the woman's cloak and starts to insult him until the two begin fighting all over the ship. Just as Karlof pinned Kai and was about to finish the fight, Clouse calls it off: the woman helps Kai to his feet and copies his powers without him noticing. Clouse announces that they reach Chen's Island, and while the Ninja wonder where they will find Zane.

Only One Can Remain

The contestants of the Tournament of Elements finally reach Chen's Island, rushing to be the first to see and go into Chen's place. The boat sets dock, allowing the people to escape the ship. The Ninja group together, while Kai loses conscious staring at Skylor. Kai immediately blocks the Ninja's path, telling them that "Girls go first." The heroes of Ninjago reach the underground fortress located on the island. Clouse arrives, commanding the contestants to welcome Master Chen. Master Chen brings his servants to welcome each contestant to their room. The Master of Fire enters his room first. His earliest discovery was his Kai poster. He wanders into his patio curiously, and glances at a familiar figure, who is also his neighbor: a Ninja girl clad in an orange Ninja gi. Kai attempts to introduce himself and use his Elemental power to win her over, but the girl—Skylor, by name—throws him off by flirting back, making him quickly lose control of the fireball in his hand. His reaction to the burning seems to amuse her.

Master Chen announces the competition starts now. Kai and Skylor see a Jadeblade on top of their roof. Skylor preforms backflips to get to the location of the blade. Kai jumps up too and accidentally knocks her down. He managed to grab her leg, stopping her from falling. He flings her up; however, she reaches the blade, now making only one Jadeblade left and Karlof heads to the last one. Kai realizes and follows Karlof. Kai's archenemy won the battle, but before Karlof could hand it in, Kai unscrewed his Metal fist, getting a chance to win. Kai flies to Chen's location putting the blade in its spot to win.

Since Karlof has lost the contest, he is sent to Chen's secret location in the dungeon. Kai suggests they have a meeting later in his room. The Ninja had entered Kai's room with the exception of Jay since Skylor has arrived, therefore making the Red Ninja push Jay. After Skylor had re-entered her room, Kai helps Jay get up, apologizing for the mishap. The Ninja discuss the tournament while Cole lays down on Kai's bed, accidentally triggering a button again which reveals a secret entrance. Cole informs his friends, and they silently travel to the secret room. In the secret cave, Kai, Jay, Lloyd, and Cole hear Skylor shout in her room. They observe her room with little peeking holes, and surprisingly find her using the Fire element, which causes Cole to tease the Red Ninja by singing that "Kai's heart is on fire." Soon, the Ninja face Chen's minions but silently hide behind a rock while defeating the four minions. After they defeat the minions, they take their outfits to blend in and look like Anacondrai Cultists and go to Chen.

Master Chen then has his followers bring out a captured Karlof, and the Ninja are horrified to witness him steal Karlof's power with his staff. Cole soon notes that Chen used Ice when he cast the spell, which meant he already stole Zane's power too. As the Ninja realize Chen's goal is to steal everyone's power, their identities are revealed and Lloyd commands the Ninja to run out of the place. While running, Cole trips on a booby trap which sets out traps and a huge snake (which Kai notes is the second biggest snake he's seen).

Running away from the giant snake, they finally make it back into Kai's room. They now promise to stay within the rules until they find Zane.

Versus

At Chen's island, the Tournament of Elements is on break. All the competitors are in the cafeteria eating lunch. The Ninja are still shaken up from Chen stealing Karlof's powers and try to come up with a new plan to find Zane. Chen then announces the six masters competing to get the jade blade next. The masters consist of Griffin Turner, Gravis, Ash, Bolobo, Neuro, and Kai.

Kai vs. Ash

The match between Kai and Ash takes place on a bridge over a volcano, with the jadeblade and the competitors on a wooden bridge. Kai goes straight for the blade, but Ash flips the bridge over, causing it to fall on a rock below. Kai climbs under the bridge and attempts to kick Ash, but the master of smoke uses his powers to evade the attack. Kai continuously attacks Ash, with none of his blows landing while Ash keeps disappearing and reappearing and his punches landing, eventually sending the master of fire through the bridge and hanging. Kai initially struggles to hang on to the plank worrying Skylor, but he flips himself back onto secured planks and uses his Spinjitzu to push Ash back though the end result is the same. Lloyd encourages him to use his powers, so Kai then launches multiple fireballs, only for Ash to dodge them while they begin burning through the bridge. As Kai and Ash's battle continues, Clouse attempts to use his Magic though Chen prevents him from doing so, enjoying the fight. Ash manages to apprehend Kai, but he launches one more fireball which successfully burns through the last of the bridge, sending both of them onto the rocks below. The two then battle in mid air over the Jadeblade where they're evenly matched until Ash makes for the blade. Kai then attacks him, where he uses his powers to avoid being hit: Kai uses this to take the blade and end the match with Ash eliminated.

Soon, most of the contestants are looking at the brackets and when the Ninja see for themselves, they're shocked to find Cole and Jay have been set up to fight next. The Ninja confront Clouse about this, but he brushes it off. Kai suggests they ask Neuro for help, but he denies as helping them might hurt his chances in the tournament. Lloyd manages to convince him by letting him read his mind and seeing what happened to Karlof. Later Neuro tells Kai what he discovered: Clouse has a spellbook where the page marked 149 has a spell that requires everyone's powers, though he couldn't find a way to stop the fight.

During the battle Jay tells Cole to take the Jadeblade as he himself is lucky to still be in the tournament, which he does, but throws it to Jay like a true friend, saying he should have backed down with Nya before telling the Blue Ninja to win it all. Cole loses, though Garmadon tells Kai, Lloyd, and Neuro that he did the right thing.

Ninja Roll

Kai is seen running around outside the temples, appearing to be lost. He then runs inside one upon hearing Chen's voice announcing the next fight. Inside, Skylor is about to fight Jacob, the Master of Sound and they begin to smash vases in order to find a Jadeblade. Kai soon arrives and makes his way to his seat, stepping on everyone's toes in the process, soon realizes Skylor's fighting just as she sets Jacob's sitar on fire, while Jay fills Garmadon in on his crush on her until they found out they might be related. Garmadon explains that Skylor's element isn't Fire—it's Amber, meaning she can absorb other elements with a single touch, which immediately brings Kai's feelings back. After Jacob is eliminated, Chen announces he initially wanted to give everyone jewels for their work in the Tournament, due to Jay's fight with Cole yesterday, he rejects the idea and takes away everyone's rooms, forcing them to sleep in the dining hall. As Jay and Kai berate each other while the other competitors leave, Garmadon warns them that if they don't make friends with the others, they'll try to eliminate them by any means necessary. While the competitors rest, the remaining three Ninja discuss a plan but quickly jump back to their beds just as Clouse arrives. He orders Master Chen’s servants to add roller-skates to everyone’s feet, making the contestants curious. Clouse only says Lloyd will fight Chamille, Master of Form before leaving. Lloyd is confused as to who Chamille is, to which Kai seemingly explains how she can disguise herself to find another's weaknesses. Lloyd points out his only weakness is his aching back, but as Kai skates away, he appears on the other side, struggling to balance on his skates. Lloyd soon realizes that Chamille, disguised as Kai, tricked him into pointing out his only weakness to her.

During the Thunderblade Race, Skylor asks Kai what's left from stopping him from winning the tournament if Lloyd was out, to which he says he doesn't think of it before she knocks him down. By now, Lloyd and Chamille have each gained a point and have caught up to the others, who stop Lloyd from passing. Jay decides to make an opening by shocking Neuro, which works and stops everyone else: however, the plan fails as Kai accidentally knocks into Lloyd, causing him to fall behind by one point. Chamille orders Shadow to hit Lloyd's back, succeeding, and making him drop his Jadeblade. Mr. Pale then takes it, only for Jay to take it back and knock him off the track. Everyone does whatever they can to stop the Ninja (with only Kai taking the hits), with Chen even releasing a buggy to extend Chamille's lead. Skylor comes up to Kai, saying he's convincing and Lloyd will soon be eliminated.

With the score now 8 to 5, Kai decides to help despite not keeping balanced and uses his powers to hit Chamille and making her drop her blade, allowing Jay to take it. Skylor attempts to berate Kai for what he did, though he snaps and says that as Ninja they stick together, causing Skylor to regret trusting him. Jay approaches him and informs him of Lloyd's progress though Kai now realizes Garmadon was right about not trusting the others. He then states if everyone knew about Chen's true intentions, they'd help: Chamille then takes back her Jadeblade. Kai latches onto Skylor, explaining what he meant and revealing the real nature of the tournament: upon mentioning the spell, Mr. Pale, Shade, and Griffin become interested and are convinced upon Neuro's testimony. Chamille attacks Kai and he lands near the buggy, allowing him and Skylor to take it. They drive up to Lloyd and let him take it, where it transforms into his color. After Lloyd wins, Chen refuses to have the event count, claiming Lloyd cheated and is disqualified, though Griffin stands up for the Green Ninja and states Chen is the one who cheated, where the master claims what his rules says, goes. Mr. Pale, Kai, and Jay protest if Lloyd's out, then so are they whereas Skylor states if everyone is eliminated, there is no tournament. With that along with Clouse confirming it, Chen is forced to comply and eliminates Chamille. As everyone cheers for Lloyd, Skylor warns Kai that because of this, Chen will do anything to eliminate the Ninja. Kai then states that as long as everyone sticks together, there's always hope.

Spy for a Spy

As it turns out, the banquet is being held for the eight remaining competitors who have made it to the second round. Chen tells the remaining eight that he knows that they have a secret alliance and that that the tournament is about stealing everyone's powers. To crumble the alliance, Chen lies and tells that whoever wins gets his Staff of Elements. Nya goes to the banquet and tells the Ninja that she's undercover and that one person in their group is a spy. This leaves the Ninja curious before Skylor approached Kai with a fortune cookie that says Cole and Zane will be breaking out, which elates the Ninja that Cole found their lost friend.

Later in Kai's quarter, all the fighters try to determine who the spy is. Garmadon suggests checking their backs and the one who has a snake tattoo on their back is a spy. Eventually, it comes down to Shadow and Skylor, the latter attempting to get Kai on her side by saying he didn't trust her: he stated he did and wanted the others to trust her, too. Before she did, Shadow made his escape declaring he wasn't the spy or the ninja's friend, so the Ninja and the remaining masters assume Shadow is the spy. Kai tries to apologize to Skylor, but she refuses to listen and shows him and the Ninja her back without a tattoo, leaving him guilt-ridden. Unbeknownst to them, Skylor truly was the spy and had hidden her tattoo using the power of Form.

Spellbound

For the next round of the tournament, Kai and the other remaining fighters boarded a blimp and were taken high above Chen's Island. While on the blimp, Kai argued with Shade as everyone still considered him the spy as Shade states he wants to fight Kai in the next match. Once they were high above the island, Chen revealed to Kai's horror the objective of the next round was to capture Nya, who had proof of Chen's plan. The masters were then dropped out of the blimp along with parachutes and Kai was successful in claiming one. A few seconds later he landed close of the island's volcano, resulting in the parachute being set alight and burns him to the point that he screams in pain.

While searching for Nya, Kai noticed a rustling in the bushes and ignited his hand with a fireball only for it to be Skylor. The Master of Fire asked if she would help him in his search and the two set off together. However, they had not gone far when they noticed a massive fireball across a pond. Kai began hopping from log to log to get across, but Skylor froze the pond to get there quicker, causing Kai to realize she saw Zane and that she was the spy, having used Chamille's power to hide her tattoo. To his even greater surprise, she revealed that Chen was her father, who using the power of smoke, appeared beside them.

Chen declared that Kai's time in the tournament was over and ordered Skylor to seize him, though Kai used his fire Spinjitzu to get to land. There, however, Chen used his staff of elements to trap the master of fire in vines, capturing him. Kai was taken to the D.B. Express and thrown in the vengestone prison along with Jay and the other elemental fighters. He was told by Jay that Lloyd would come for them as they were taunted by Chen who wanted Lloyd to come try. As Chen laughed, Kai stared at Skylor heartbroken by her betrayal.

The Forgotten Element

In the Anacondrai Temple, Kai, Jay, Griffin Turner, Neuro, Mr. Pale, and Shade are led in chains made of Vengestone to have their powers taken away. As most of the masters lament on not heeding the ninja's warning, Jay tried to maintain positive attitude which Kai berates him for given the situation.

Upon being brought before Clouse and Skylor, Kai questions how she could help her father knowing he'll need her element for the spell as well. Saying she had no choice, Kai asks who planned to have him fall for her, which shocks Skylor. Chen raises his staff and takes the master's powers. Upon Chen ordering for the masters to be sent to the factory, Skylor begs for Kai to be spared saying he can help them which he complies with.

Chen shows the Red Ninja his trophy collection (containing parts of the Ninjas' past adventures), though Kai angrily responds that without the staff, he'd strike the villain down. Chen noted even without his power the fire still burns in Kai before he explains that unlike Kai and Skylor, who got her powers from her mother, he himself had no abilities and was told he'd amount to nothing. He then shows Kai a portrait of Arcturus and announces with Lloyd's power, he'd be unstoppable since he will turn his followers into Anacondrai. When Kai asks why Chen was telling him this, he tells Kai he knows he's still jealous Lloyd became the Green Ninja and offers to give him the power he wanted to try for so long. However, Kai refuses to betray his friends: Chen counters this by promising dark secrets about his parents his masters never told him which surprises Kai. Before he can inquire about this, Clouse comes to tell him of Lloyd initiating his plan soon and they leave Kai to consider his offer.

After Lloyd sneaks into Chen's Palace and falls into another one of Chen's trapdoor into a cave made by Clouse's serpent which pursues him. Kai appears and gets the Green Ninja out and advises him of the situation and plan, but Lloyd refuses and says he needs to face Chen. With that, Kai apologizes to Lloyd blowing out his torch and leaves while Lloyd finds himself with Chen in the throne room. Shocked that Chen managed to turn Kai against him, Lloyd proceeds to battle while trying to talk some sense into Chen. However, the man uses everyone's elements to overwhelm the green Ninja and defeats him.

Kai claims he switched sides. . . .

Nya wakes up in the dungeon of the snake where, along with Garmadon, she's chained to a post. Chen, Clouse, and Skylor approach and inform them of Lloyd's defeat and that his power will be taken soon. Nya questions how they were able to defeat him to which Kai enters, saying Lloyd never stood a chance alone. Garmadon, now enraged of Chen turning the Ninja against each other like he did to their ancestors, grabs Skylor and threatens her unless he and Nya are released: they call his bluff due to his reform and he's forced to release Skylor, shocked with her father.

. . . but soon confirms otherwise.

Clouse opens a tunnel door for his snake to enter after its nap while Nya tries to talk sense into her brother as Kai tells her this was it was to be but winks at them, revealing he only pretended to switch sides to gain Chen's trust, relieving them. As Chen and Clouse leave to prepare for the ceremony, Kai pulls Skylor back and explains he can get the staff. Skylor asks why he'd tell her after her betrayal: Kai states she let him go for a reason, with her feeling for him being the most obvious choice which she admits.

In the ceremony Lloyd questions why Kai would betray him, though he tells him not to worry but keeps up his act. Chen then has Skylor give up her powers. By now, Skylor has completely lost her power and Chen proceeds to take Lloyd's Energy. As Clouse begins the spell, Kai tells Chen he forgot one more element: the "element of surprise." Skylor then kicks the Staff of Elements out of her father's hands and Kai uses it to free Lloyd, who realizes Kai's plan. With the staff, Kai holds off the Cultists and manages to freeze Clouse. Lloyd tells him to destroy the staff, but Kai begins to become corrupted by its power. Just before he uses it on Lloyd and Skylor, all the escaped elemental masters burst in (among them being Jay, Cole, and Zane) causing him to drop it. Regaining his senses, Kai spots the staff and runs to it quickly grabbing the staff before Chen does and destroys it, restoring everyone's elements allowing them to overpower the Cultists.

With the Ninja reunited as a whole once more, they do Spinjitzu and defeat the remaining Cultists before Chen, Clouse, Eyezor, Kapau, Chope, and Zugu escape with Skylor as their prisoner.

With Chen in hiding, the Elemental Masters capture the remaining Cultists and seize control of the island. Nya and Garmadon assure Kai they'll find Skylor while Kai expresses surprise at finding an old friend and making new ones, including a new kind of friend in Skylor. Garmadon once more assures they'll find her, with the battle now over for the time being, Kai and the others laugh at Zane as he dances and sings, just like at Dr. Julien's lab.

The Day of the Dragon

The Ninja await Chen

On Chen's Island, the masters make sure that Chen and his forces can't escape by destroying any means of the island. As they do so, the Ninja search the palace and forest but find no sign of Chen as Lloyd comforts Kai about Skylor, saying that while she couldn't pick her family, she picked a good friend, with the addition of Cole saying with no other way off the island, they'll find them. Garmadon congratulates the five on bringing the Elemental Masters together and sticking together, though he warns them to keep their guard up. Later on, Griffin Turner and Neuro inform the Ninja, Nya, and Garmadon that Chen plans to use Skylor's absorbed powers to finish the spell and turn the cultists into Anacondrai.

After getting Skylor's location, Kai takes off on one of the crushers while Jay takes the mech, Garmadon and Cole take the Jet, Zane takes a buggy, Nya takes the DB Express and Lloyd leaves on his dragon. As Skylor is now being chased by Eyezor and Zugu, she is saved by Kai, who crashes his own bike into the two generals' bikes. Kai takes a rocket board for himself and the chase begins again when Chen starts to pursue them in the bladecopter. Combining their Fire, they create a smokescreen which Chen flies through, sees Kai, and notices Skylor disappeared not seeing she used her Form to disguise herself.

Kai emerges from one of the buildings, having alerted the team and takes an interest in exploring the town, but brushes it off to bring Skylor back. However, the two are ambushed by Kapau and Chope and captured in an Element-blocking net. Later in the Crystal Caves, the transformation is revealed to have begun, Kapau reciting the spell in Clouse's place. As Chope finishes the spell (Kapau having fainted from its effects), Kai urges Skylor to resist the transformation. However, the transformation is completed which Chen cheers at for awhile. Kai attacks Kapau, Chope, and Chen though none of them are affected due to their thick Anacondrai skin allowing Chen to knock Kai away. Skylor breaks free and attacks her father before he can finish Kai.

Accepting her new form, the red Ninja leads her out of the cave and return to the coast riding Kai's Elemental Fire Dragon supporting Zane's (who summoned a dragon as well) theory of conquering their fear, convincing and encouraging everyone to unlock their dragons. With dragons, they begin flying after Chen as Kai states that although Chen brought them there so only one of them would remain, he didn't think that together, they were one.

The Greatest Fear of All

On Dragons, the Elemental Masters fly to Ninjago in order to stop Chen and his army. They arrive a day after Chen; Kai wondered how they lost time as the others bring up they had to retrieve those who are not Elemental Masters and how hard it took for them to master summoning dragons. Once in Ninjago, they find Chen hasn't attack yet and when people run after seeing Skylor as an Anacondrai, Kai consoles her by telling her she's with them after she wishes says could still change.

To avoid causing a panic with Garmadon and Skylor, they take them back to the Samurai X Cave where they reunite with Wu and Misako to deduce Chen's next move. The Ninja visit Kryptarium Prison, where they speak to Pythor of how to combat them, though he is initially against speaking to them until he sees the transformed Garmadon. The prison soon comes under attack by Chen's Cultists as Kai, Jay, and Cole fight them while the others realize Pythor holds the key to keeping the spell permanent. Wu and his family escape making sure Pythor doesn't fall into the Cultists' hands as the Ninja keep them busy, as the prison is put on lockdown.

The fight soon causes the release of the prisoners and Cole break through the walls since the metal door can't be broken. The Ninja run through the prison with the inmates following them and make it to the courtyard finding the Garmadons fighting the Cultists. Kai inquires if they had Pythor as Wu finds that the Cultists have made off with him. To ensure the prisoners don't escape, Wu stops Cole from breaking any more walls and Zane creates a trail of ice for then to run out of the prison, which Kai destroys so the prisoners can't pursue them, leaving the inmates to be taken back to their cells by the warden and his guards.

The Ninja plan to stop Chen's invading forces

They return to the Samurai X Cave, where Nya tells them Chen has shipped out several noodle trucks that could hold swarms of Anacondrai Cultists. The Ninja contact their allies to stop them before their arrival but the trucks separate into going off to other directions, where Misako states there are several villages.

The Ninja and the Elemental Masters summon their Dragons and each pursue a truck. Kai follows one through the city and manages to damage it and capture the driver. Kai opens the truck only to find it empty as he realizes too late that Chen tricked him and his friends to split up. The fear that he put many people in danger causes him to lose control of his dragon, leaving him unable to do anything about it.

The Corridor of Elders

Kai and the other elemental masters are scattered all around Ninjago, after chasing down the decoy trucks. Nya attempts to contact them from the new Destiny's Bounty. Lloyd instructs Neuro to send a message to the other elemental masters ordering them to Nya's Samurai Cave, where she informs them that Chen has taken over the entire eastern coast. Wu points out that the Corridor of Elders will be the best place to make their final stand, and the elemental masters agree. The Ninja journey all over Ninjago to rally support from the citizens, with Kai going to the comic store for help.

The Ninja, elemental masters, citizens, and Serpentine get to the Corridor and start the ultimate battle against Anacondrai. Pythor escapes Chen's camp riding a rat and carrying Chen's spellbook. He gets to the battle and tells Lloyd to take him to his father because he knows the way to end the battle. Later, Lloyd opens the portal to the cursed realm and unleashes spirits of Arcturus and his troops who quickly curse Chen and his soldiers turning them into ghosts. They all get hovered into the portal, which then explodes after closing off, ending the war.

The Ninja and the elemental masters then celebrated their victory, with Kai and Jay being hugged by Karlof as they all promise to offer their new friends aid in the future as they part ways.

Later, Kai asks Skylor to join the team but said that she has the noodle-business to run and they almost kissed they get interrupted by Dareth. They part ways although Skylor promised to Kai that she will keep in touch with him.

The War over, the Ninja look forward to the future.

On the top of the corridor, the Ninja, Wu, Misako, and Dareth sit around a fire on a broken statue, watching construction workers building a statue of Garmadon in the corridor. Lloyd tells that today they will say goodbye to a legend and burns the book in the fire.

Shadow of Ronin (non-canon)

After relocating to Spinjago, Kai retold the events of Chen's Island to the other Ninja, though his description was greatly exaggerated with everyone complimenting him and a wild twist. Following his story, the Ninja began to train. However, they were interrupted by the arrival of Ronin, who stole the Ninjas' memories using the Obsidian Glaive.

In the hopes of finding a way to restore their memories, Wu sent the Ninja to speak to Hibiki at Kryptarium Prison. After dispatching with Ronin's goons, they learned of the Inky Lemonberry in the Toxic Bogs and went to pick up Nya from Ed & Edna's Scrap N Junk. To get there, Kai used his Blade Cycle, through quickly fell under attack by Blade-Cycles and Rattlecopters.

Once he arrived in the Toxic Bogs, Kai expressed concern about eating something that grew in such an unhygienic place. Nevertheless, he drank the Tea of Insight and learned that in Obsidian Sword was hidden in the Fire Temple.

Kai accompanied the other Ninja to the Frozen Wasteland where Zane acquired his Obsidian Sais. There, Zane remembered that Ronin was the one who had taken them to Chen's Island and he and Cole recapped Zane's death for Jay.

Before they could go to the Lightning Ruins to retrieve Obsidian Nunchucks, however, Nya called Kai reporting that the Nindroids were attacking New Ninjago City. Kai and the other Ninja caught up to Nya in the park just as a jet crashed into the nearby Fireworks factory. Upon talking to Cyrus Borg, Jay was overjoyed to learn that his Lightning powers would be vital to stopping the Nindroids, and the Ninja quickly headed to the Floating Ruins. With the power of lightning once again at the Blue Ninja's command, the Ninja were able to shut down the power and deactivate the Nindroids. Their victory was short-lived however as Ronin soon arrived and attacked the Ninja using the Lightning Forge, forcing the Ninja to retreat.

Later, Master Wu realizes that Ronin plans to bring back Chen. To avoid this he sends Jay, Cole, and Dareth to recover the Forge of Ice. Meanwhile, he, Kai, and Zane recover the Forge of Fire which is inside the mouth of an active volcano. After recovering the forge they reunite with Jay, Cole, and Dareth. Suddenly Ronin ambushed them with the Lightning Forge, though Dareth and Zane managed to escape. After recovering the last two forges he released the Ninja.

Back in Spinjago, Sensei Wu realizes that Ronin needs the Primal Fulcrum. They travel to the Fangpyre Cemetery to find that Lloyd and Misako are there to help them. Unbeknownst to the Ninja, Ronin had used the Obsidian Glaive to alter Misako's memory to believe that the Ninja had betrayed her. After finding the primal fulcrum, Misako tricks the Ninja into activating a fail-safe. After destroying the Obsidian Glaive, Ronin and his goons escape and destroy the entrance to the room in order to avoid being followed.

Later, the Ninja follow Ronin to Chen's Island to stop him from opening a portal to the Cursed Realm. But the Ninja failed and entered the now giant-sized portal using their Elemental Dragons, along with the Ultra Dragon, in order to stop Ronin once and for all.

After they had searched different portals and failed to find him, they managed to build an entrance to the portal he was hiding in. they were finally standing face to face with Ronin for one last time, but Ronin then revealed a triumph card. Using the remaining power of the Elemental Forges, Ronin encased himself an elemental golem and fought the Ninja. But as the battle continued, the Ninja manage to destroy each of the Forges that powered the golem, until they were all destroyed, and Ronin was then forced to flee on R.E.X. once more, but not before he saw a giant, green, ghostly arm coming out of the now closing portal. After Ronin escaped, the ninja managed to escape from the Cursed Realm as well. Kai points out that Jay had lost his pants again. However, this part turns out to be Kai exaggerating again, much to Jay's frustration.

Possession

Winds of Change

With Garmadon gone, Kai took Lloyd under his care and promised to watch over him. He and the Ninja used their Elemental Dragons to capture a Fangfish that had been terrorizing a local village, though Kai bragged that he once had caught one twice as big. Upon returning successful to Wu's new tea shop Steep Wisdom, Kai and the others were sent by their Master into Ninjago City to advertise the new store, yet without using their powers. While they obeyed their master at first, after failing to attract anyone Kai decided at use his elemental powers to create a teapot out of fire.

Unfortunately, Morro possessed Lloyd's body and the other Ninja lost their elemental abilities. They returned to Wu for answers just as the tea shop fell under attack by the Master of Wind. Kai attempted to help Lloyd regain control of his body, but was taken away by the Ninja as the fled in the Destiny's Bounty just as the Green Ninja was starting to regain control.

Ghost Story

Morro soon caught up to them using his Elemental Dragon and while the masters of earth and lightning fended him off, Kai and Zane escorted Wu to their quarters for him to make an imprint of the staff's secret message. The ghost ninja crippled the flying vessel however and soon confronted Kai who was almost thrown out of the Bounty. He was saved by Zane, but the ship crashed in the Forest of Tranquility.

The Ninja made camp and Wu told them of his past with Morro. That night Kai dreamt of him promising to look after Lloyd, only for the Green Ninja to be eaten by a Fangfish. He was awoken by a walloper to find that Misako has arrived and discovered that the first symbol means Airjitzu, a martial art created by Master Yang, though discover that Ronin had recently stolen the only known scroll. The Ninja mount wallopers and Kai leads them towards Stiix where Ronin was keeping the scroll.

Unfortunately, their head start was lost when Kai lead them away from Stiix rather than towards it. After Zane pointed this out, Jay and Cole elected to follow Zane instead and they soon came across train tracks leading to Stiix.

After nightfall, they came to a train station and stopped, intending to rest. However, they were soon beset by Wrayth on the Chain Cycle and engulfed in a frenzied battle against the ghost menace. Incidentally, he defeated himself when his chain hooked on a nearby water tower and poured its contents onto himself. The Ninja were left stunned by this, but realizing that a passing train was headed to Stiix, quickly ran after it.

Stiix and Stones

The Ninja eventually arrived in Stiix and confronted Ronin in his shop. The thief demanded a high price for the scrolls, but due to Kai's horrible negotiating skills, it was raised even higher. To earn money, the Ninja were hired to build a dock and Kai operated the crane. Unfortunately, a fly damaged the Titanium Ninja's language database and they ended up accidentally destroying the bridge. With Zane unable to speak, Jay took charge and decided that they should simply steal the scrolls.

When they did, however, Morro and his latest summoned partner Soul Archer had arrived at the shop for the scroll and summoned more ghosts. Using the Aeroblades, they got rid of the ghosts; unfortunately, Ronin called for R.E.X. and took the scroll but didn't get far thanks to Morro. Kai chased after Morro but failed to regain the scroll. In addition, Ronin offered to help Kai out of the strangle weed in exchange for something: Kai gave him everyone's business shares of Steep Wisdom. In return, Ronin told him of an alternate way to learn Airjitzu: Master Yang's Haunted Temple.

Kai escapes the temple

During nightfall, the Ninja sneaked into Yang's Temple in order to retrieve the Scroll of Airjitzu. After pranking Cole, the Ninja tried to warn him that a thudding sound they heard was real. The Ninja were eventually forced to avoid all the obstacles Yang threw at them, and they decided to tie themselves together to prevent themselves from running away.

The Ninja then have to chase Morro into the attic, where Yang gave them the Scroll. After realizing the sun's almost up, the Ninja fled the Temple but was surprised and saddened to see Cole as a Ghost.

Peak-a-Boo

Kai began complaining about his new Deepstone suit because it was heavy, which he believed prevented him and the others from performing Airjitzu. Wu told him that it would protect him from turning into a ghost. Sometime later, Soul Archer shot him in his chest, but the Master of Fire didn't turn into a ghost.

Once they were nearing the highest peak of the Wailing Alps to beat Morro from reaching the Cloud Kingdom, Kai was the first to successfully do Airjitzu up to the top. He was then able to encourage Cole by telling him ghosts can't die, which helped him perform Airjitzu and allow them to beat Morro into the Blind Man's Eye.

Kingdom Come

Upon reaching the gates of Cloud Kingdom, Kai and the other Ninja were greeted by Fenwick. They were then shown inside the writing hall where the Ninja learned that the citizens of Cloud Kingdom were the writers of destiny.

Fenwick proceeded to inform the Ninja that Morro sought the Realm Crystal hidden in the tomb to unleash The Preeminent, before ushering them into a building filled with toys to meet the "master writer." They quickly discovered

it to be a trap as they had been locked away with Nimbus, a terrifying creature. With Cole's ghost abilities, the Ninja managed to escape and discovered that Fenwick was actually working for Morro.

The Ninja soon ran into Nobu who informed them where the Sword of Sanctuary was kept, though the Ninja arrived just after Morro claimed the sword. With it in hand, the ghost was able to escape from Cloud Kingdom though after an intense chase down the Wailing Alps, the Ninja emerged victor with the sword in possession.

The Crooked Path

When the Ninja are preparing Stepped Wisdom for a Ghost attack, Kai puts up a bucket of water on top of a door. After hearing a bell ring, Kai and the others hurled water balloons at the Postman, thinking he was a Ghost. The Postman then told them they're going out of business due to the lack of customers. They then decided not to tell Ronin so he can stay and help them.

When the Ninja were told to come in Steep Wisdom so Misako can explain the third clue, Kai asked Ronin what he's looking for, to which he said he was just sorting the tea blends. Misako and Wu told them about the three tests and that Kai reminded her earlier about a map at the back of the Scroll of Airjitzu and that the reflection on the sword just might tell them the location. They went outside to stop Ronin from stealing the sword, but was caught in the traps they had set up earlier. When they chased after him, they realized his ship was empty.

They later got a message from "Ronin" stating that the tomb was located in the Caves of Despair. They checked it out, and found the skull symbol at the entrance. They initially thought the lanterns they encountered were the first of three tests, but was proven otherwise when nothing happened. They encountered a Kethanol geyser and when Cle blocked it with a boulder, it erupted and they found themselves riding on minecarts. Before they could fall into a pit of lava, R.E.X., on autopilot, came by to save them. Ronin, on a message, said he'll let them borrow R.E.X. to travel to the real location of the tomb, under the ocean.

Grave Danger

Arriving at the tomb's entrance after nearly avoiding the Leviathan, and accidentally leaving their Aeroblades behind, the Ninja head inside and found themselves surrounded by sixteen doors, each with images on it. P.I.X.A.L. informed Zane they're in a zoetrope, and they have to use Spinjitzu to find the correct symbol. He did so, and they enter the door with the Yin-Yang symbol.

They entered the second test room, with Kai determined to reach the staff, activating most of the traps. Cole had the idea to jump down the hole they made, and after it works, he reluctantly followed suit.

Future Kai

Falling into the third test room, the ninja, except Cole, saw their future in the wall's reflections. They spotted Morro, and Kai was able to trap him with stalactites. They solved the test by digging straight down and end up in the tomb.

Suddenly, Morro, who managed to escape Kai's trap, threatened to kill Lloyd if they don't give him the Crystal. The Ninja realized they have their powers back, but it's weak. Kai secretly burned the Crystal, Making Morro drop it into a nearby river. Lloyd attacked him, but Morro pushed him down the river, with Kai and Cole trying to save him. With Cole not being able to touch water, Kai dove in to save him, however, he was not able to grab the Crystal in time, resulting in Morro winning. When they got out of the tomb, Kai comforted Lloyd that they'll grow stronger as he recovers.

Curseworld, Part I

Kai and the rest of the Ninja went to Steep Wisdom to get vehicles Cyrus Borg built. Unfortunately, Kai only got a headband due to the lack of time. Kai suggests they use Nya as the key to get close to the Ghosts, to which she agrees.

Trying to distract the Ghosts, Kai poured tea on one of them, getting them to chase him. Eventually, he tries to stop Lloyd from listening to Morro when he's trying to destroy the Crystal but failed. The Ninja were forced to watch Lloyd get captured into the Cursed Realm.

Curseworld, Part II

Kai tried to weaken the Preeminent by using his Fire, but she didn't budge. When Cole was about to use his Ghost Cycle on the Preeminent, the Ninja kept shooting their powers at her to cover him.

Kai suggests they get closer to the Preeminent to save Lloyd, but it was no use. They have to go back to the ship. They see Lloyd come back, and had to destroy the stilts to drop the Preeminent into the sea, after which the Ghosts defended her with houses. He went closer to the Preeminent, allowing the Ninja to follow suite.

He fell into the water, but Zane told him to use his Fire on Soul Archer and together with his Ice, they were able to make water to defeat him. However, the Ghost respawned, much to their disappointment. They went back to the ship in order to defend its passengers. He watched as Nya destroy the Preeminent with her unlocked True Potential.

Skybound

Infamous

Following the defeat of the Preeminent, the Ninja rose in popularity and began being treated as celebrities. Kai in particular loved the attention. Following the discovery that Clouse had managed to escape the Cursed Realm, Kai and the other Ninja headed to Stiix to stop him, taking a brief detour to the hospital for Lil' Nelson's Grant-a-Wish.

Upon arriving in Stiix, the ninja were unable to locate Clouse and discovered to their horror that they had been framed for a crime free. Now wanted criminals, Kai and the other Ninja were forced to split up to avoid detection.

Public Enemy Number One

After a brief meeting with the other Ninja where they discovered that a Djinn might be behind their framing, Nya and Kai headed to Jamanakai Village where Nya had hid spare bikes. Upon receiving a distress call from Zane, the two headed to the Corridor of Elders, only to be ambushed and captured by Ronin, who had been paid to round up the wanted Ninja. Once all six of them had been captured, they were lead onto a bus bound for Kryptarium Prison.

Enkrypted

Kai imprisoned with his friends

While at Kryptarium, Kai and the other Ninja learned from Captain Soto that this Djinn was none other than Nadakhan, a feared pirate captain whom Soto had trapped himself centuries ago. That night, as part of Lloyd's prison break plan, Kai found Soto and freed him from his cell in exchange for information on how to defeat the Djinn.

Misfortune Rising

While Cole and Lloyd tried to find the Misfortune's Keep, Kai and Zane were assigned to recover the Destiny's Bounty. However, after being attacked by the guard and his dog, the two of them were forced to flee.

Later, after regrouping with the other Ninja at Yang Tavern, they learned of Misfortune's Keep attack on Ninjago City and decided to come out of hiding to defend the innocent and retrieve Soto's lantern. During the battle, Kai and Jay were separated by an explosive barrel thrown by Monkey Wretch. Before Jay could catch up, Nadakhan transported the Red Ninja to Cannon Beach to trick him into using his three wishes.

In an attempt to escape, Kai wished to go back, only to be taken back in time to when his father was a humble blacksmith. After witnessing his father ask for his help, Kai, not wanting to mess with the timeline, demanded that Nadakhan return him back to a time when the latter wasn't present, when his fan girls still appreciated him, etc. Because of the high content of his wish, Nadakhan instead chose to focus on a single aspect, transporting Kai into an alternate reality where all of the psychotic fan girls began chasing him around. In desperation, the Red Ninja was goaded into wishing it all away, resulting in his imprisonment in the Djinn Blade. As a result, Nadakhan would use the power of his soul to begin tearing chunks out of Ninjago.

Operation Land Ho!

While trapped inside the Sword of Souls, Kai would be freed by Jay alongside the rest of his imprisoned allies, their release resulting in the defeat of several Sky Pirates converging on their position.

The Way Back

After thanking the members of Jay's new team, Kai went with the other Ninja to stop Nadakhan from marrying Nya. However, they failed to stop the ceremony and retreated before Nadakhan could capture them. Regrouping on the Misfortune's Keep with the now reformed Dogshank and Flintlocke, they discovered from Jay not only where Clancee kept the Tiger Widow venom but also the true reason behind the wishes Nadakhan granted: their inabilities was only interpretation on Nadakhan's part: in the end, Nadakhan's powers were limited in that he had to solely rely on his victims to accomplish his wishes, as the ability came from its rightful owner. With this, Flintlocke regained his aim and was declared the one to shoot Nadakhan with the venom while the others distract the Djinn.

The Ninja put the plan into action, though discover Nya has been possessed by the now-revived Delara. Although they evade most of the attacks, Nadakhan turns them into gold statues until only Jay is left. Flintlocke is soon able to take the shot, successfully hitting Nadakhan and his power begins to diminish: unfortunately, the venom also hit Nya, who soon dies in Jay's arms. Everyone is devastated, Kai having to be comforted by Zane while the weakened Nadakhan musters up his remaining strength, though it's in vain as Jay wishes from the heart that Nya had taken his hand and that Nadakhan was never freed.

Time soon reverses to when the ninja are on the roof of Ninjago City hospital with only Jay and Nya remembering all of the events. The two renew their relationship, which everyone is happy for, though Kai becomes disgusted from seeing his sister kiss Jay but eventually accepted it.

Dark Island Trilogy

Dark Island Trilogy, Part 1

Kai and the other Ninja were summoned to the Samurai X Cave by Master Wu, who informed them that Misako and Ronin had gone missing off the coast of the Dark Island. The Ninja quickly readied the Destiny's Bounty and they set off towards the island.

Upon nearing the island however, the Bounty encountered an unnatural storm that sent the Ninja falling from the sky. When Kai awoke, he found himself alone in the middle of a vast desert.

Day of the Departed

Using their new vehicles—including the components of the Ultra Sonic Raider—the ninja traveled to the Ninjago Museum of History on the Day of the Departed in order to acquire lanterns for the celebration. After viewing the Hall of Villainy, the Ninja split up to pay their respective requests, inadvertently leaving Cole behind. Kai and Nya traveled back to Four Weapons Blacksmith in order to commemorate their parents, and Nya questioned whether they would ever learn what really became of them. Chen and two of his Anacondrai Cultists, revived by the dark magic of Master Yang, then arrived to attack the pair, but they were able to defeat the villains and destroy them. Returning to the museum, they found their friends and learned they went through similar experiences, wondering what the cause was before Wu and Morro arrive telling them it was Yang's plan.

Seeing Morro, Kai and the ninja armed themselves as Jay question how many other ghosts there were left with Kai stating they've stopped several others and what's one more. He is surprised when Wu tells them that Morro was there to help and the latter tells them that Yang tricked Cole into opening a rift to return to Ninjago. The Ninja soon realized they forgot about Cole and Wu orders them to ready the Bounty and head for the Temple of Airjitzu while a redeemed Morro returns to the Departed Realm.

The Ninja used the Bounty to travel to Yang's floating Temple of Airjitzu, where they are caught in a powerful storm with wind blowing their ship around. However, their timely arrival gave Cole the drive needed to win and they watch as he overpowered Yang.

Kai and the others become confused by Cole speaking to Yang telling him he needed to pass through the Rift.

The Ninja watched as the Rift closes before getting caught in its shockwave, forcing them to make a crash landing on the ground of the floating Temple. Once they landed, they feared if Cole hadn't made it through the Rift in time but were overjoyed when he emerged from behind a rock, a human again. The Ninja happily hugged their friend, relieved to have him back to normal. Kai soon pointed out the restored Temple of Airjitzu and at Cole's suggestion, they make it their new base.

Later that night, they gathered around a fire with their families and friends listening to Cole's story before releasing lanterns into the sky in celebration.

The Hands of Time

The Hands of Time

When the Ninja clean up the museum, Kai told Nya about a picture he found of their parents. Later, they see another picture of Garmadon and Wu forty years ago and ask Dr. Saunders what it is.

When they're off, an energy displacement caused them to be relocated on the Bounty. P.I.X.A.L. told them the source is at the monastery, where Wu was, and the Ninja took off.

They eventually encountered Acronix and fought him. Afterward, they save Wu before he could fall off the mountain.

The Hatching

The Ninja asked Wu about their fight with Acronix. Afterward, they left him so he could rest. They discussed the painting they saw at the museum and how it relates to Wu's flashback.

After a while, the Ninja watched a news channel reporting a Vermillion Warrior wreaking havoc at the BorgStore. They decided to attack it one-on-one, but failed, noticing the Warrior could regenerate. Concluding that the Vermillion might try to kidnap Cyrus, the Ninja tried to help him. However, they found Zane unconscious and Cyrus Borg missing.

A Time of Traitors

Kai and Saunders

After failing to figure out what the Vermillion helmet does, they went to see Wu for answers. He was unable to answer, however, so Kai went to the museum while Lloyd stays with Wu, and Jay, Cole, and Nya went to the Samurai X Cave to reboot Zane.

When he got there, he asked Dr. Saunders about the helmet, and then decided to look around for anything useful. He discovered Dr. Saunders was Krux and a fight broke out between the two, when Acronix came Nya arrived to help and the siblings managed to temporarily defeat and escape the Time Twins.

Afterwards, they went back to the Cave and found Zane rebooting.

Scavengers

After Kai was distant from his previous encounter with Krux, he started to take his anger off on some Sparring Bots. He agreed to fight the Vermillion but was interrupted when Lloyd told them he will be their new Master. However, when Lloyd suggests they make a plan, they reluctantly agreed.

When Ronin and Dareth came to tell them the Vermillion are stealing metal, the Ninja left.

After a brief fight, the power went out and the Ninja met Lloyd at the power source. They created a magnet to attract the snakes' armor, rendering them vulnerable. The power went back on, and they heard the Vermillion are attacking Mega Monster Amusement Park. They left for the park, and Kai told Nya he needs to tell her something when it's over

A Line in the Sand

Kai fought the Vermillion at Mega Monster Amusement Park. When he sees a symbol on the Vermillion's helmet, he looks at it in astonishment. When he grouped up with the others, they realize they haven't seen Jay since they left for the amusement park.

When time slowed down, the Vermillion Warriors left the park. They figured another Time Blade has arrived, and Zae gave out its location. They left and try to get there before the Vermillion do.

Nearing the Time Blade, Raggmunk threw snakes at them to make them crash. When they tried to get it, Blunck shot them with the Time Blade, slowing them down.

The Army and Ninja were slowed down right when Jay came to save them. He managed to free everyone from the time bubble. They fought for the Blade and managed to escape with it.

The Attack

After closely examining the helmet, Kai states he's got a clue, but it turned out to be false and he continues to observe it.

When Wu told the Ninja to net let pride cloud their judgment, Kai asks Wu what the symbol meant and asked for everything he knew.

A moment later, they were attacked by Vermillion. They defeated them with Spinjitzu, and Kai asks Wu what the symbol meant. The snakes regenerated into Buffmillion, and Kai and Nya tripped it until it fell down the floating island.

Lloyd suggests they take out their weaponry by using their Dragons, but they don't think it's a good idea. Lloyd's Dragon disappears and Kai tries to save him but was held back by the Vermillion's sky team. Samurai X saved Lloyd but flew away before anyone could find out their identity.

Just as Wu was about to answer Kai's question, they were confronted by the twins. They eventually got both the Blades, but it was stolen by Machia when they least expected.

They mourned over their defeat and blamed their overconfidence.

Secrets Discovered

Seeking counsel, Kai journeyed to Mr. Chen's Noodle Shop to speak with Skylor, as she had dealt with her father being a villain as well. Nya soon arrived and he presented the two helmets as evidence to her, though he was met with skepticism until he proved it to her. The siblings realized their father was still alive but couldn't bring themselves to accept he is working with the enemy. They were soon interrupted by a call from Lloyd, informing them that the other Ninja had discovered the secret base of the Hands of Time. As he and Nya set out, Kai realized that this meant they also knew where their parents were.

Pause and Effect

Kai entered the blacksmith's building and found his father Ray building weapons. Kai confronted him and attacked the latter as the latter defended himself. Kai then revealed his identity to his shocked father who tried to talk him down but he didn't listen to him nor his arriving sister. However, the voice is his mother Maya and he stops but still tells Nya she is guilty like their father. Their parents proceed to tell them the truth: Krux wanted revenge on them for building the Time Blades and threatened Kai and Nya if they didn't comply which is why they were separated. Hearing this, Kai felt guilty for accusing them as he sees they weren't at fault.

Out of the Fire and Into the Boiling Sea

When Kai refused to retrieve the Time Blade for the twins, Nya reminded him it's the only way to save Wu. Later, when Ray gave them the Dragon Blade to create the Fusion Dragon, Kai's impatience caused them to miss out on Ray's advice. Once inside, Nya creates a water slide to reach Hono Mizu.

When they reached the bottom, they were greeted by Geotomic Rock Monsters. When they used both their powers together, they realized they needed to work together. Once they reached a door, Nya figured out they open it with the Dragon Blade. When Kai took the Blade, however, the building starts to collapse. They used the Fusion Dragon to escape.

Once they returned, Kai was about to use the Time Blade on him but the twins said they lied about their promise. As they fought, Ray pushed Kai so he would be hit with the Time Punch instead. Acronix used the Pause Time Blade on everyone and they stole the Reversal Time Blade and left with the ship. When they let them fall into the Boiling Sea, Nya and Kai used the Fusion Dragon to save everyone.

They went to the Iron Doom, with Ray and Maya jumping off to increase speed. They followed the Iron Doom into the Temporal Vortex.

Lost in Time

As the Iron Doom traveled to the future, Krux complained to Acronix about going to the future. Acronix tells him that by going into the future, there would be no one who recognizes them, no Elemental Masters, and no Kai and Nya.

At that moment, however, the Hands of Time are confronted by Kai, Nya, and Wu. Kai taunts them for being wrong as the final battle between them begins, Acronix fights Nya and Wu while Krux fights Kai. After Nya leaves to help her brother in fighting Krux, they proceed to overwhelm until Acronix joins in to aid his brother.

As the Iron Doom began to pass by the present, Acronix and Krux were able to overwhelm Kai and his sister and were about to finish them off, but are stopped by Wu. As Acronix tells him there is nothing he can do, Wu then proceeds to rip out the Reversal Time Blade from the Time Apparatus, causing the Iron Doom to spin out of control. Kai and Nya fall as Wu gives them the Reversal Time Blade before they returned to the present so that they can cure their father of the time punch. Wu stayed behind confronts a defeated Acronix and Krux, saying that it indeed ends now. As the three fought, the Iron Doom became lost in time with them still aboard as it traveled far into the future.

Though happy at their victory, Kai couldn't help but be worried when his master was feared to be lost in time with their enemies. He and the rest Ninja elect Lloyd as their master and he makes his first order to bury the reversal time blade and to discover what happened to Wu.

Way of the Departed

Following Lloyd's request, Nya and Kai returned the Reversal Time Blade to the Boiling Sea for safekeeping.

Kai was paired with Zane when the group split up to cover more ground in their search for Wu. At one point, the two hired Ronin to take them to the Tomb of the First Spinjitzu Master in their search.

Prior to Sons of Garmadon

School for Crooks

At Chen's Noodle House, Kai got a message from Zane that a new criminal gang was recruiting members. Kai told this to Skylor, who thought back to a recent encounter with a few guys in her restaurant who had mentioned the "School for Crooks." Though Kai was planning on investigating with Zane, Skylor convinced the Master of Fire to team up with her for old times' sake.

That evening, Skylor and Kai went to the docks, where they spotted and gave chase to the cloaked figure who seemed to be the leader of the criminal school. At one point during the chase, Kai used Airjitzu, a technique Skylor had not seen before, to bring himself and Skylor closer to the unknown individual.

The two finally cornered the stranger, only for him to reveal himself as Ronin. Ronin explained that the "School for Crooks" was in fact a criminal reform course, and the gang Kai had heard about was something else entirely. Skylor and Kai bid farewell to Ronin as he mentioned his appreciation for the Noodle House's Puffy Potstickers.

Sons of Garmadon

The Mask of Deception

While Kai and Zane fought the Mechanic, P.I.X.A.L. asked them to meet with Lloyd. Zane eventually defeated him with Ice, but accidentally froze Kai in the process.

The Ninja regrouped, and Lloyd showed them the Sons of Garmadon logo and said they stole a mask. Hutchins informed them of the Oni Masks and that the Emperor of Ninjago will have a speech. The Ninja agreed to defend the mask during his speech.

During the speech, firecrackers went off, causing the audience to panic. The Royal Family is grateful they tried to save them and they were invited inside the palace.

The Royal Family informed the Ninja as long as they have the Oni Mask, their lives are in danger. The Ninja accepted the challenge to keep them safe and were given a tour with Hutchins.

When Hutchins showed them the Oni Mask of Deception, the Ninja agreed to protect it. Kai and Nya went onto the roof and saw Hutchins suspiciously walking away from the palace. When he noticed them, he walked back inside.

The Jade Princess

While training, the Ninja gave Lloyd some advice on how to attract Harumi, but Lloyd agreed with Nya to just be himself.

While helping guard the palace, Kai informed the Postman no one's allowed in the palace and that he can deliver the mail.

When the palace exploded, the Ninja fought the Sons of Garmadon. Later, Lloyd and Harumi picked them up on the Destiny's Bounty and informed them the Emperor, Empress, and Hutchins didn't survive.

The Oni and the Dragon

When Lloyd and Jay came back from Mistaké's shop, they watched Cole karaoke at Laughy's on television. Cole was attacked by the Sons of Garmadon and when Zane didn't help, the Ninja went to help him. While they were chasing Mr. E, Lloyd realized Zane was trying to gain their trust.

Snake Jaguar

When Lloyd was unable to find Zane or Cole, Jay and Kai checked the other stations.

Dead Man's Squall

After the Ninja found Zane shut off at the bottom of a cliff, they took him back to the Bounty. They then decided to leave Ninjago since the baby is the key to the Mask of Hatred.

When P.I.X.A.L. then informed the Ninja Mr. E told the Quiet One "The trap has been set." She told the Ninja she's trying to find the location of the Quiet One, but Cole showed them the baby's blanket with the map to the third Oni Mask on it.

When P.I.X.A.L., controlled by the Quiet One, shot one of the thrusters, the Ninja fought her. Just when she went back to normal, her destroyed another, causing the Bounty to fall. Nya was able to control the rain to slow down their fall, but the Bounty was damaged.

The Quiet One

As they tried to fix the Bounty, the baby, who had a growth spurt, hands Jay a pair of pliers, surprising Kai and the others. Kai is shocked to see the baby drink tea, before the child said their motto: "Ninja never quit," after Jay stated he quitted. This makes them realize the baby is a regressed Master Wu, which shocks them.

The Ninja tell Nya the things the baby did and how they discovered he is Wu, she doesn't believe them until she hears the baby talk. Afterwards, questions are raised by how Wu reverted to a toddler; Nya brings up Wu being touched by the Reversal Blade before he was lost in time. Kai questions his sister who states that it could of caused him to de-age. Kai listens as Zane states if Nya is correct, the blades' effects have worn off and now Wu will keep aging until he returns to normal, eventually.

The Ninja later discover Harumi is the Quiet One as the Sons of Garmadon attacked and surrounded them.

Game of Masks

The Ninja, now tied up in chains, try to convince the Sons of Garmadon not to resurrect Lord Garmadon, to no avail. When Killow calls for Ultra Violet, Wu hands them the keys and they start to confront the Sons of Garmadon.

During their standoff, they were reunited with Lloyd and Crabby attacked. The Sons of Garmadon leave on the Bounty and Lloyd followed them after they froze Crabby in ice. They were shocked when Lloyd was captured and Crabby started to break free.

Dread on Arrival

After the Ninja tamed Crabby, they rode it to the police station. They told the Commissioner the Sons of Garmadon are going to resurrect Lord Garmadon and need reinforcement.

While the police attack the Sons of Garmadon, the Ninja traverse to the Temple of Resurrection. They defeated the Sons of Garmadon and rescue Lloyd and Misako. They helped as the police arrested the Sons of Garmadon.

True Potential

To celebrate, the Ninja went to Laughy's to karaoke. However, the music was cut off and they watch the news about Garmadon breaking Harumi free from jail.

The Ninja went to the police station to question the Commissioner. The Commissioner confirmed he was Garmadon They watched the news again and realized Harumi and Garmadon are at Kryptarium Prison.

On the Bounty, the Ninja told Lloyd not to face his father. They later were tricked by the Green Ninja, who locked them in a room so he can go it alone.

When the Sons of Garmadon broadcasted Lloyd's fight with Garmadon, the Ninja are forced to watch.

Big Trouble, Little Ninjago

The Ninja went to Mistaké's tea shop in order to help Lloyd recover. However, they could lose their Elemental Powers. After thinking, he changed his mind and they all decided to help Lloyd.

They still have their Elemental Powers and Mistaké gave them tea in a bag. When the shop rumbles, they go outside to see Ninjago's citizens panicking. Nya stays with Lloyd while the other Ninja and P.I.X.A.L. go see what it is. They found Colossus and started attacking, but were forced to hide. P.I.X.A.L. decided to distract it while the Ninja run away.

The Ninja tried to pick up Lloyd on the Bounty but instead, they only got Wu. Before the Colossus could destroy the Bounty, they used the tea Mistaké gave them, which turned out to be Traveler's Tea. They woke up in the Realm of Oni and Dragons.

Hunted

Firstbourne

Marooned in the Realm of Oni and Dragons, the ninja spend a full week in the realm trying to gather supplies. Kai is the most worked up over the situation, as seen when he criticizes Jay for not freaking out and states him being calm is unsettling to him. Kai and Zane spend most of their time building a radio in the hopes of communicating with the realm of Ninjago.

As Kai and Zane listen on the makeshift radio, they see that Jay has completely lost his grip on reality as he plays on his homemade game, which is really a piece of wood. After Zane tells them he has intercepted a transmission, they believe it's from Ninjago, however, the people on the other side state they are preparing something. Kai doesn't understand some phrases they use and Zane translates the words to him by stating that they are talking about an ambush. Hearing this, Kai realizes they are talking about them and tells the others to run away.

As the trio run, Kai makes sure to keep a lookout for the attackers before figures in the fog quickly grab each of the Ninja in chains and drag them off.

Held captive, Kai and his friends are brought blindfolded into a settlement known as Dead's End by their captors, the Dragon Hunters. As they are taken inside the throne room, Kai hears Jay wonder aloud if they are playing hide and seek (blindfolded) before halting in their footsteps. One of the Hunters dragging them attempts to push Kai to his knees, but he responds by struggling against them, to no avail, before the trio are pushed to their knees, with Zane telling the two to be careful and not to provoke them. The Hunters remove the blindfolds for them to meet the Iron Baron, who taunts their situation before laughing with his fellow Hunters.

Iron & Stone

Kai and the others face a dragon

As they are held captive, Kai sees the Baron's throne (made from bones of the Ultra Dragon) and states he already hates him. When they were questioned over who else was with them, Zane tries to deny it, but Jet Jack shows them one of Wu's diapers. Kai spoke up by trying to pass them off as being Jay's as he tried to lie, saying he has a weak bladder, but they don't believe them. Iron Baron accuses them of being Oni while ignoring Kai's protests.

The captured Ninja are taken into The Pit which Jay notes is an arena where they will be attacked by something. Kai and Zane note that Jay is still not in his right mind and is useless in their plight. They find they are to fight a Dragon and are told by a hunter named Chew Toy to play dead.

During the fight, Kai goes through with playing dead and the Dragon, Slab, smells him but doesn't attack. Cole and Wu get their attention and use a lever to put a chain for them to trap the Dragon. Kai then alerts Jay that the Dragon would attack him but Zane freezes it, exposing their Elemental Power to all. Iron Baron realizes his mistake of thinking they were Oni and sees they are elemental masters. He then orders his followers to hunt them as Kai tells his friends to prepare for a brawl as the Hunters surround them.

Radio Free Ninjago

Kai, Jay, and Zane are cornered by the Dragon Hunters and have no choice but to use their Elemental Power. Kai does an estimate on the foes before Zane corrects him on the exact number and he states Zane was better at counting. Kai asks Jay if he's all right, as Jay lists all of the events that have befallen him and has a breakdown; this display causes Zane to note to Kai that he is back to normal, which relieves him.

They use their Elemental Power to fend off the Hunters when Heavy Metal jumps down with the Dragonbone Blade. They try to use their power on him, but as Zane points out, the blade attracts their Elemental Power. Now unable to use their power, they are chained up by Heavy Metal and put in the back of the Dieselnaut.

Held in place by the Hunters with Vengestone, Iron Baron approaches them and admits his surprise at them not being Oni, but trained in the ways of the First Spinjitzu Master. Kai is shocked by his familiarity and asks if he knew him as Baron states he knows his legends and calls him the coward who ran away to Ninjago. Kai then asks if he knows how to get them back, to which Baron responds no, but he had no interest in helping them any way. He then declares they are hunting Dragons and hopes that the catch he makes will be good.

He then turns on the machine and it releases strange energy that triggers an elemental reaction and the Ninja are subjected to a device that draws out their Elemental Power. Jay realizes that the Hunters are using them as bait since their powers attract the Dragons while noting it tickles.

Soon after, a Wind Dragon is attracted to the Ninja. Meanwhile, Cole and Wu (who are disguised as Hunters) "accidentally" knock the other Ninja off the stand. They try to rescue them, but the Ninja are immediately put back into the back of the Dieselnaut by Daddy No Legs.

Now in the back of the vehicle, they are forced to sit back and watch as the Hunters reel in and eventually capture the Wind Dragon.

Cole promises to figure a way out of this situation for them, and the Dragons.

How to Build a Dragon

As he and his friends are caged by the Hunters, Kai sleeps before Jay wakes him up by telling him and Zane that he heard Lloyd's voice on the Hunters' radio. Kai questioned him if he has lost it again but after he explains they see he is still sane.

As the Ninja are forced to work, they wonder about what to do as Jay suggests building a Dragon and they call it out foolish but he tells them of his plan to trick Baron into thinking the Firstbourne was attacking so they and the Dragons can escape. The Ninja like his plan and get to work by secretly gathering supplies.

Later on, the Ninja are put to work by the Iron Baron, and Jay draws the blueprint for the fake dragon in hidden. While Kai and the others assemble parts and send them off to Cole and Wu, the two of them assemble the Dragon away from the camp.

Soon after, at night, Iron Baron gets ready to cook the Wind Dragon, and Kai and the others wait for Cole and Wu to "attack" the base with their creation. They are tied up and watch the skies, and then finally, with Wu controlling it, the fake dragon appears over the camp, and Zane and the others act like it is the real thing which spooks the Hunters.

While the Hunters scramble to their stations to capture it, Cole maneuvers to the others and frees them from their chains. They make their way out, and at the same time, Wu is shot out of the sky. At first, the Ninja don't see it, and see the real Firstbourne in the sky and mistake it for Wu. When they realize it's the real thing, they freak out and attempt to flee.

Wu stops them and tells them that she is there to protect her Wind Dragon, but the Ninja assisted in capturing it. The only way for them to get out would be to save the Wind Dragon.

Kai and the Wind Dragon

Kai and the others make their way to the Dragon, who is tied up, and get caught in a fight with the Dragon Hunters. Kai breaks off from the fight and frees the Wind Dragon. It helps the Ninja fend off the Hunters, and the Ninja also help the other imprisoned Dragons escape.

Kai and the Ninja flee the scene, and Iron Baron says they are going hunting again...for the Ninja.

The Gilded Path

The Ninja found a camp spot and sat around the fire before Wu woke up and they see that he has aged again and become a teenager overnight. When Jay commented it was bad, Kai mentioned they were teenagers and Jay called them "grown-up" teenagers.

Heavy Metal then finds the Ninjas' camp and makes her presence known, Heavy Metal threatens the Ninja with her weapon telling them they are her prisoners now before interrogating them on Wu truly being the son of the First Spinjitzu Master. Kai tells Wu not to reveal his heritage since it might be dangerous like their power but Metal fires an arrow at Cole after stating they heard Kai's mumbling. Kai watched as Wu revealed himself and Metal revealing themselves to be a woman named Faith who is on their side.

The Ninja haul the vehicle while Faith tells the legend of the First Spinjitzu Master. They were then approached by Daddy No Legs and Muzzle. They were able to tie them up and steal their vehicles to continue their mission.

Two Lies, One Truth

When fighting over water with Kai, Faith slices a cactus in half so they could have enough. While they fight over the cactus, the Dragon Hunters caught up to them and they rode off. They made it to the canyons and managed to defeat them, but are unaware Jet Jack attached a tracking device on their vehicle.

The Ninja reached Oni territory and went in to look for the armor. They see the land was abandoned but noticed the gates reveal a map to the Dragon Armor, which is located in Firstbourne's nest.

The Weakest Link

When the Ninja woke up, Faith handed them chain guns. Kai and the others are taught by her to use them to survive against the Dragons, which excites Kai.

Kai is tasked by Faith to demonstrate "catching" a rock to practice, and he fails as she realizes they all need some help. Kai says the first person to catch the rock wins.

While the other Ninja have a hard time using their chains, Zane gets it on the first try. He asks if he won, and Jay says they thought he was the judge. Wu joins the others in trying to successfully wrap their chain around the rock, and when the others get it except him, he gets frustrated. Kai gives him some confidence, and he returns to the others and wraps the chain around the rock.

A few moments later, they see the Stormbringer flying above them, and they attempt to prove themselves by catching their first Dragon. Zane and the others hold her with the chains, and Wu hops on top of her and rides her for a moment before she knocks him off.

Later on, Faith tells them that to get to the Armor, they must get past the mountain in front of them. They hear the other Dragon Hunters behind them and realize they were being tracked. They fly through the caves of the mountain while they're chased, and Iron Baron finds out that Wu is the son of the First Spinjitzu Master. He tells his Hunters to not go after Faith, but Wu instead. They all get through the cave, with some of Hunter's men being left behind, and the Ninja realize there's no way to stop the Hunters unless they take Dieselnaut.

The Ninja dealt with the attack of Hunters and were soon able to hijack the Dieselnaut and escape but at the cost of Faith, who was captured by Baron.

Saving Faith

At Wu's pleas, the Ninja go to rescue Faith from the Hunters. She berates them and warns them it was a trap but the Dragon Hunters appear and capture them.

Kai is later tied to a stand with Cole and Zane, Kai shares banter with the others to keep their spirits up. He explains to Wu why this is important and they share a laugh. He watches as Faith tells the other Hunters that Iron Baron lied to them about the Oni who have been gone from the realm for centuries and tells them that he possibly killed the Hunters to get Dragonbone Blade. After Iron Baron silences any growing rebellion by threatening them, an annoyed Baron hushes his prisoners by turning on the elemental device.

However, torture causes Wu to regain all of his memories and slightly aged further into an older teenager. Kai watches as Wu breaks free of his bonds and begins to fight Wu with the Dragon Hunters but is knocked aside. He watches as Iron Baron negotiates with Wu who accepts the offer of leading him to the armor to return to Ninjago. Kai, Faith, and the Ninja tell him not to help Baron but he tells them to believe in him.

Kai is left to watch as Wu and Baron leave the area in search of the armor.

Lessons for a Master

Kai and the others were still stuck on the wooden stakes. Above them, two vulture-like birds fly above them, and Kai asks if they are Zane's falcon. However, Zane remarks that his data picks up that they are a group of avian scavengers, that will pick them apart upon their demise. Faith confirms this, and Jay freaks out.

They notice that the other Hunters are arguing down below. While they're distracted, they try to rock their bodies side to side in order to knock the stakes over. The rocking seems to be working, and they cheer. As they do, Jet Jack asks them what they're doing, and she cuts them down.

After the Ninja are freed, they are skeptical of the Hunters' intentions and Kai tells them if they plan on eating them to eat Cole first since he is filled with cake as his friends are shocked by this. However, the Hunters reveal they want the Ninja to defeat Baron as they see Baron was only using them and will become even more dangerous with the armor.

They arrive at a bridge that leads to the armor and find that it's too late, as the bridge has fallen.

Kai and the others congratulate Wu on claiming the Dragon Armor.

Kai and the others return from the bridge to give the bad news to the other Hunters, and just then, Wu rides back the Firstbourne out of the nest without any chains and discovers the Ninja, Faith, and the other Dragon Hunters, who had since turned on Baron in his absence and freed the Ninja.

As soon as he lands, he reveals Iron Baron's fate. The Ninja bow to him as Dragon Master, but Wu claims that it is he who should bow to them, as it was they who taught him everything since they arrived in the realm. Kai watches as Cole points out that their job isn't finished, Wu asks the Firstbourne if she will get him and his former students home. She agrees to do so, calling upon four other Dragons for the Ninja to ride. Kai gains a new Fire Dragon and is amazed at it.

With their work finally finished in the Realm of Oni and Dragons, Kai and the others ride the Dragons out of the realm and begin their return to Ninjago.

Green Destiny

Returning to Ninjago, Kai flies on his dragon.

Arriving in Ninjago through a portal forming in the air, Kai and the others are devastated by the city's state and start to look for their friends. They don't have to search for long as Nya contacts Kai and he is happy to hear his sister's voice and they make it in time to save them from Ultra Violet and her lackeys who flee after seeing the dragons. Kai then reunites with his other friends who are happy that he and the others are back however, Kai sees Skylor and learns from Lloyd that she was poisoned by Garmadon's power.

The Ninja continue fighting against the Colossus, using Vengestone Harpoons to try and incapacitate it. However, the chains are ineffective, and they eventually run out of them. Kai jumps onto the Colossus and begins binding the chains together even tighter.

The Ninja soon run out of chains and wonder what to do, before the Firstbourne returns and Wu fires his chain gun at the behemoth. The tides continues to turn in the Ninja's favor, as their allies escape the prison and return to the city to help defeat the Colossus. Very soon, the Ninja and their allies incapacitate the Colossus using the chains, and it falls to the ground. Once Garmadon loses his power, the Colossus crumbles apart and the ninja are victorious. In Nya's armored van, Kai tends to Skylor who wakes up after her health is restored, assuring her they have won the battle.

They then have the Sons of Garmadon arrested before Lloyd arrives with his defeated father and the ninja celebrate his restored power while Garmadon is arrested.

Several days later, the Ninja clean up the Royal Palace and complain since they saved the city before Wu (an old man again) tells them there's trouble.

Kai and Skylor share a romantic embrace.

The Ninja run out of the palace and find a crowd celebrating their victory. During this time, Kai and Skylor lovingly hug each other.

March of the Oni

The Darkness Comes

Kai helped Jay practice how to ask Nya to be his Yang but after showing him how to act with confidence, Jay dismissed the idea. Afterwards, Dareth comes in and Kai told him to keep it a secret. Nya also comes in to show them her new kimono and they all went outside to look at the new murals with Wu. Suddenly, they saw Firstbourne crash and landed near the mountain. They ran to her and saw Faith was also badly injured. They brought her inside the monastery to help her heal.

Faith mentioned that darkness swept over her home realm and that she barely escaped. Wu points out it might be the Oni and the Ninja head to the Bounty to prepare.

When they arrived at the city, the Ninja rescued the people. They tried to fight the darkness with their powers, but it had no effect. They retreated back on the Bounty and Lloyd told them Garmadon might be able to defeat the Oni. They went to Kryptarium to release him.

Into the Breach

Once the Ninja are airborne again, the Ninja discussed if they could trust Garmadon. Meanwhile, he turned the engines off, and the Bounty starts plummeting toward the ground. The Ninja hanged on until Zane got to the ignition switch in the nick of time.

While Lloyd followed Garmadon to the cabinet, Kai told Jay he should ask Nya to be his Yang as soon as possible. Cole joins in and tells him the same, but Zane told them they were needed on the bridge. Garmadon proceeds to tell the Ninja about how the Oni were able to enter Ninjago. They used the Realm Crystal and he would be able to go inside the dark cloud to destroy it due to being part Oni, but he would need a weapon. Lloyd then argues that they can't just let him have a weapon then let him walk away unsupervised. Since Lloyd is part Oni as well, he claimed would also survive the darkness and decided to go with him.

When they arrived at Borg Tower, the Ninja handed Garmadon a sword, but he started attacking them to activate his powers. He jumped off, and Lloyd followed. After watching Lloyd on his head cam, they heard distress calls and tried to find the source. They flew off, while P.I.X.A.L. decided to stay behind in case the two needed assistance.

While trying to find the source, the Ninja watched as Lloyd and Garmadon approaches the Crystal. When The Omega attacked them, his head cam broke.

The Fall

Kai and Nya

The Ninja found the source of the distress signal at the NGTV building. Jay and Cole went out to help the people, but once they were about to leave, Nya accidentally turned the thrusters the wrong way. This caused Cole's rope ladder to snap as the Ninja watched him fall. Kai tried to turn the ship around, but Zane convinced him otherwise.

They went to save P.I.X.A.L., Lloyd, and Garmadon as they ran out of fuel. The Ninja told them Cole fell off the Bounty, and Nya blames herself despite Jay and Kai saying it was an accident. After Garmadon told them they are wasting time mourning, he showed them the Golden Master's armor. However, everyone was upset at him and started leaving.

Nya still blamed herself while Kai tried to reassure her by telling her she's the one that makes plans for the Ninja. She then said they can go back to the Monastery of Spinjitzu to forge the armor's metal back into weapons. Despite Kai being hesitant, he agreed.

Endings

The Ninja landed near the monastery and Wu and Misako went to see them. They told the two that Cole fell into the dark clouds and destroying the Realm Crystal did nothing. However, Garmadon showed them the Golden Armor and Nya explained they might have a chance if they reforge the Golden Weapons. After Kai was done, he gave the weapons to their respective Ninja, but had to give the Scythe of Quakes to Nya. A monk then signals to the Ninja that the Oni are here, and they prepare to fight.

The Ninja began the fight them and were surprised to see Cole arrived. Nya then hands him his Scythe but they were overpowered and retreated into the monastery. They then watched as Jay asked Nya to be his Yang, to which she accepts. Lloyd then points out that they can try using the Tornado of Creation against the Oni.

However, they found Lloyd under a pile of debris and mourned. He suddenly woke up and the Ninja were relieved. As celebration, their allies visited the monastery and watched the Ninja make a new mural with their handprints.

Secrets of the Forbidden Spinjitzu

Wasted True Potential

The ninja, (Except for Jay and Zane) watched as Cole beat Zane's high score in a game called Lava Zombies. The ninja sat in the hot tub, which turned out to be the Bell of Divinity. Infuriated, Wu put the ninja to a test to see how long they could survive in the room with his chicken. They were able to trap the chicken, but Wu was unimpressed.

After complaining about the traps Wu set up, the ninja asked him what to do. He challenged them to a battle, but they were easily defeated. Once again, the chicken was released to punish them.

Questing for Quests

While Kai was training with the other ninjas, Lloyd informed them that they had to figure things out on their own. Kai was frustrated, stating that he had been pondering over the matter for five minutes and had run out of ideas. Jay suggested that a change of scenery might help spark new ideas, but even after relaxing in the Bell of Divinity, the ninja still found themselves at a loss. Kai realized that they needed a formidable villain to challenge them. Cole suggested Ultra Violet, but Kai dismissed the idea, preferring to face Killow instead. Zane informed them that both Ultra Violet and Killow were imprisoned in Kryptarium Prison. Cole wondered who else they could consider, and Nya proposed the idea of targeting a criminal instead of a traditional villain. Zane suggested that they consult with the Commissioner and offer their assistance in preventing crimes. Kai and the other ninja agreed to Zane's idea.

Upon their arrival at the police station, the ninja were informed that Ninjago City had been experiencing a period of tranquility, with no outstanding warrants to address. The news left Kai feeling disappointed, as he attempted to suggest various terms such as felon, hoodlum, crook, and even monster, hoping to find some action. However, the Commissioner confirmed that there was no need for such concerns. Just as the ninja were starting to feel disheartened, Jimmy entered the room and provided them with a valuable tip regarding an illegal bootlegging operation taking place at the wharfs. Kai and the rest of the ninja wasted no time in springing into action, ready to confront the criminals. However, to their surprise, they soon discovered that the supposed bootlegging operation was nothing more than a man selling prune juice. The ninja then received information about an incident at Kryptarium Prison and headed there, only to discover that the prisoners were watching a video of a fight. Noble clarified that there was no riot, but rather a minor dispute that had been peacefully resolved. Zane suggested that since they were already at the prison, they should also check on Killow. Kai agreed, suspecting that Killow might be involved in something suspicious. When they reached Killow's cell, he claimed to be finishing up a painting and showed them a picture of a puppy holding dynamite. Kai wasn't impressed and questioned why the puppy had dynamite. Killow explained that the puppy was angry but learning to control its emotions, just like him.

Kai, frustrated by his continuous inability to participate in actual crimes, decided to confront the Commissioner regarding the lack of criminal activity and his own lack of progress on a model ship. Unexpectedly, Jimmy proposed assisting with filing, a suggestion that both Kai and the rest of the ninja team reluctantly accepted, only to find themselves suffering from painful paper cuts. Sfter coming back to the Monastery, Kai and the other ninja caught up on the latest news about Clutch Powers' discovery of a pyramid in the Desert of Doom. Since Clutch Powers deemed the pyramid too hazardous to explore and believed only a ninja could survive the journey, Kai and the other ninja took it upon themselves to embark on the perilous mission.

A Rocky Start

The ninja scrambled around the Monastery trying to get ready to go investigate the Desert of Doom.

Once they were all packed, P.I.X.A.L. showed them to the hangar bay, where she made several new vehicles for the ninja, including the Land Bounty. Kai and Cole took their vehicles to the Desert while Zane, Jay, Nya, and Lloyd boarded the Land Bounty.

When they finally arrived, they set up a camp around an oasis they have found. Zane read a book about the Desert, telling them that long ago, an ancient tribe once lived in the Desert. They worshipped a thousand-year-old giant scarab beetle called Beohernie. One day, the beetle went out of control, and destroyed the civilization, seemingly for no reason. The beetle suddenly appeared and attacked, and the Ninja made a run for it to the Bounty.

As the beetle chased them, Cole was knocked over and was almost left behind. He recuperated himself, and the ninja were continued to be chased by the giant.

While they made a run for it, a major component to the Land Bounty was devoured by the Beetle, and the ninja were left stranded on a plateau, surrounded by two more scarab beetles.

The Belly of the Beast

Kai and the others were trapped while Zane attempted to repair the Land Bounty, but it was impossible to escape without the component the beetle ate.

That night, Kai heard Zane say that the Bounty is useless without the component, and the only way to retrieve it is to go to the belly of the beast itself. He then got the idea that one of them had to be strapped to a rope and sent into the stomach of the beetle. They played a rock-paper-clamp tournament to decide who goes in, and Zane ended up being the winner.

The next morning, Zane went on the sand and was consumed by Beohernie. When Zane notified the ninja that he found the component, the ninja pulled him from Beohernie, but he resisted by pulling onto Cole's Dirt Bike. The force by Beohernie caused Cole to fall out of his vehicle and onto the sand where two more bugs began to attack, but they were repelled by the ninja. Eventually, Kai shot fireballs at Beohernie's belly, which allowed Zane to escape the belly of the beast.

With the component recovered, the ninja escaped the rock and outran the other scarab beetles to their next destination, the Ancient Pyramid.

Boobytraps and How to Survive Them

Kai and the rest of the ninja rendezvoused with Clutch Powers at his camp. Although they tried to persuaded him to join by mentioning the valuable resources to be discovered, Clutch Powers hesitated to enter the pyramid. However, his indecision was swiftly interrupted by a call from Cecil Putnam, who cautioned Clutch that his membership would be jeopardized if he didn't embark on an exploration soon. Realizing the urgency, Clutch Powers agreed to accompany the ninja, and together with Kai and the others, they embarked on their journey towards the pyramid. Inside the pyramid, Clutch stressed the significance of reading Boobytraps and How to Survive Them as a crucial step before moving forward, highlighting its potential to save the lives of the ninja. Despite not having read it, Kai deceitfully claimed to have a strong liking for the book.

The first challenge they faced was a dilapidated, unstable wooden bridge. Despite its precarious condition, Kai and the rest managed to navigate it successfully, avoiding any mishaps or accidents. Clutch, acknowledging their good fortune, emphasized the element of luck that played a role in their safe passage. Continuing their journey, they encountered a trap that caused them to stumble and slide down a corridor towards a perilous pit filled with sharp spikes. However, Kai swiftly utilized Fire to blast the spikes, effectively saving their lives. Upon reaching the bottom of the pit, they discovered a hidden pathway leading to the subsequent room. Finally, they arrived at the main chamber, which was adorned with several sarcophagi.

As they ventured into the next room, their attention was immediately drawn to a large, intricate puzzle adorning one of the walls. Zane pointed out that solving this puzzle could potentially unveil a hidden treasure concealed behind the door. Upon successfully solving the puzzle, Jay and Nya's accomplishment revealed a startling revelation to Kai and the rest of the group - Aspheera had been set free as a consequence of their actions. In a state of urgency, Aspheera wasted no time in demanding the whereabouts of the Treacherous Deceiver. However, to their bewilderment, Kai and the others were unaware of whom she was referring to. As the tension escalated, Aspheera launched an attack on Lloyd, prompting Kai and the rest to engage in a fierce battle against her. Despite their best efforts, Aspheera skillfully utilized her staff to counteract their Elemental Powers.

Kai, having his powers drained

Aspheera questioned Kai's identity as an Elemental Master of Fire. Kai confidently responded, introducing himself by name. Kai hurled a burst of flames towards Aspheera, but she skillfully defended herself by blocking the attack with her staff. Determined to claim his fire for herself, Aspheera retaliates by using her staff to lift Kai into the air, beginning to steal his Elemental Powers. Meanwhile, the remaining ninja attempt to disrupt her absorption. Unleashing her own Spinjitzu, Aspheera skillfully countered the ninja's attack, sending them flying backward with a powerful force. Aspheera completed the process of absorbing Kai's fire, causing him to drop to the ground, unconscious and devoid of his Elemental Powers. Aspheera proceeded to bind Kai and the other ninja with chains against a wall within the pyramid, abandoning them as she made her exit.

Ninja vs Lava

While the ninja were escaping the Ancient Pyramid, they were forced to drag an unconscious Kai who hit several objects along the way.

P.I.X.A.L. then saved the ninja from the pyramid, and when Kai woke up, he talked about his jaw hurting although the ninja didn't admit what happened. They then went to Ninjago City to stop Aspheera.

Snaketastrophy

Before Fred Finely was devoured by an Elemental Cobra, the ninja saved him and defeated the Elemental Cobra before heading off to the Ninjago Museum of History.

Powerless

Kai and Jake

Along the way, the ninja saved the Police Commissioner and his crew, but Kai was unable to help because his Aspheera stole his elemental powers, forcing Jay to save him from two Elemental Cobras. Before the ninja headed off to the Museum, Kai said he felt useless and refused to go.

When the Ninja left Kai, Jake came running into him and asked for his autograph; however, Kai told Jake that the other ninja did all the work. When Jake asked why Kai isn't helping the ninja, he told Jake that he is without powers. This made Jake upset and he called Kai a quitter. Jake then went after the other ninja, so Kai decided he will help them.

Just before the ninja were defeated by the Elemental Cobras, Jake came running in to shield the Ninja from harm, despite having no weapons to defend himself. A moment later, Kai saved Jake while defeating the Elemental Cobras.

After Kai saved the Ninja, they celebrate and Jake was glad that Kai helped the ninja although he didnt' have his Elemental Powers. Moreover, Kai called Jake a hero for being so brave.

Ancient History

Cole, Kai, and Jay headed down the sewer to find Skales, but instead, find three Hypnobrai and were taken captive. When they were taken to Skales, he was unhappy to see them although he helped them find information on Aspheera with the help of Acidicus.

After finding out who the "Treacherous Deceiver" was, they head back to the Monastery to tell Wu that Aspheera is out for Garmadon, but Wu told them that she was out for him, not his brother.

Never Trust a Human

Kai listened to Wu as he gave his story on how he became the "Treacherous Deceiver."

Under Siege

Kai forgiving Wu

After Wu told the story, Cole, Jay, Kai, and P.I.X.A.L. asked questions, but before Wu could answer all of them, they heard noise outside and realized Aspheera was on her way. Cole asked about the second Scroll of Forbidden Spinjitzu and using logic, P.I.X.A.L. thought the second scroll would be with an archeologist, so Cole contacted Lloyd, Zane, and Nya to find Clutch Powers.

P.I.X.A.L. activated the defensive systems for the Monastery, but Aspheera banished them and Fire Fang obliterated the door causing the ninja to retreat to the hangar bay. When they realized that they couldn't escape, Kai blamed Wu for their troubles, and Cole tried to comfort him, but he walked away.

When the Pyro Vipers found out their secret hideout, Wu believed he should face them alone, but Kai apologized to Wu and promised that they will face Aspheera as a team.

The Explorers Club

Kai continued to work on the Titan Mech along with Jay and P.I.X.A.L..

Vengeance is Mine!

The Pyro Vipers broke the door to the hangar bay, but they were unable to find Wu until Jay gave away their hiding place by sneezing. Before Aspheera could do any harm, P.I.X.A.L. used the Titan Mech to defend the ninja and Wu. Despite this, Aspheera managed to hold her ground and held the Ninja hostage until Lloyd, Nya, and Zane arrived with the second Scroll of Forbidden Spinjitzu.

A lengthy battle ensued with Kai having the chance to possess the Scroll when it fell into his hands, but without his Elemental Power, the Scroll didn't work and he was knocked down by Aspheera. Eventually, Zane got the Scroll and froze all the Pyro Vipers. Before Zane gave back the Scroll to Wu, Aspheera's arm managed to get free and she attempted to zap Wu, but Zane saved his master by pushing Wu of the way causing him to be hit and be seemingly destroyed.

A Cold Goodbye

The ninja come running in after P.I.X.A.L. has a nightmare of losing Zane. Wu then told the Ninja that Zane is alive; however, Wu wouldn't let the Ninja come since its location was remote.

Despite this, Lloyd stole the Traveler's Tea and the Ninja headed to the hangar bay where they spotted Wu holding the Scroll of Forbidden Spinjitzu. A lengthy battle occured as both sides were fighting for the Traveler's Tea. This gave the ninja no choice but to tie Wu up and place a mouthpiece over him. In the end, the ninja headed inside the Land Bounty while P.I.X.A.L. stood outside and zapped the vehicle into the Never-Realm.

The Never-Realm

The Land Bounty landed on a cliff, forcing the Ninja to evacuate and during the process, Cole lost the Traveler's Tea. This caused an argument with Jay before Lloyd broke up the fight and suggested they head down the mountain to avoid freezing.

After hiking through frigid temperatures, the Ninja finally arrived at a forest where it was still cold. Also, the Ninja faced danger when they were approached by wolves. The Ninja fled from the danger, but Lloyd ran into a tree giving a chance for the wolves to attack but despite that, the wolves headed off somewhere else. What the Ninja didn’t realize was that one of the wolves was frozen on a tree.

Following the unusual sight of wolves running away, the Ninja stumbled upon some people who were also frozen. Nya quickly sensed one of the victims realizing they had a heartbeat and were still alive, but Nya also got a signal on the Titan Mech. Before they sought out to find the Mech, Jay believed they should help the people, but Lloyd and Nya stood their ground saying they should get more information before assisting the people.

After following the bleak signal for some time, the Ninja ran into the wolves again, but this time they fight. They managed to hold their ground for some time until three mysterious people shot arrows at the wolves causing them to run away. 

The Ninja followed the people to a nearby village where they were greeted by the elder Sorla. After both sides gave their introductions, Sorla threw a potion into the hearth fire, and they found Zane's location which was the Ice Emperor's Castle. Sorla told them that Zane was most likely taken captive by the Ice Emperor and he was "lost." However, Lloyd believed that Zane was strong and they would still come for him despite all the dangers she had said. Sorla then warned them of General Vex who would surely be out to get the Ninja. 

Fire Maker

Kai along with Jay try on new gear that will help them walk through the snow.

Inside their base, the Ice Fishers throw ideas around on what they should do, but disagreements arise. Sorla then states that can't leave the Fire and they must protect it. When Kai asks if they can light another Fire, he is met by criticism by the Ice Fishers, but Sorla explains that they can't light another Fire since the weather is too cold. After realizing they can't transport the Fire, Sorla makes it clear they will protect it, and the Ninja agree that they will help.

When the Ice Fishers and the Ninja head out to prepare, Kai stays behind with Sorla. He explains that he could solve the problem, but without his powers, he can't help. Sorla gives him advice saying Elemental Powers can't be stolen, and it will come back.

The Ice Fishers and the Ninja quickly prepare and by sunrise, they create a fortress and arm the civilians with weapons.

At night, the first barrage of attacks begins when a plethora of arrows come streaking at the Ice Fishers. They dodge it but see Blizzard Samurai at their footsteps. They end up attacking but they shattered into ice when hit. When Lloyd was fighting one of the Blizzard Warriors, he briefly changes faces, but the dark ice corrupting him keeps him evil. During the battle, Kai was attacked by the Blizzard Warrior Grimfax and the latter overpowers him and attempts to destroy him, but Lloyd defends his fellow Ninja before Cole uses his Earth Punch to send him flying. However, the solider doesn't give up and pursues the house with fire and ultimately takes it out. The Blizzard Samurai then retreat after taking out the Fire.

The Ice Fishers sit around the empty Fire, freezing in the winter night. Kai continues to blame himself for not having his Elemental Powers before trying once more. This time, he manages to create the Fire, and the Ice Fishers chant "Fire Maker," due to his success. Kai is excited to have his powers back.

An Unlikely Ally

Kai is approached by some kids, who want him to cook their fish, and he does so while still relishing in having his powers back and is basking at his new title of "Fire Maker." However, his showboating annoys his sister who knocks him off his hammock in annoyance. Later, Cole swings Kai and Jay on the hammock, hilariously ending with Jay flying into a tree, kicking Cole in the progress, and Kai falling off.

When Lloyd talks about him going to the Ice Emperor alone would stand a better chance than bringing the whole group, since by then the Blizzard Samurai would be distracted on the Great Lake; not Lloyd. Kai wishes he could come but reveals that his returning powers are taxing on his body but does give Lloyd food and with the other Ninja wish Lloyd farewell and give him the GPS tracker to the Titan Mech.

The Message

When the children of the village run away from Cole in fear, Kai questioned what he did. He claimed to have told them about how Aspheera banished Zane to the Never-Realm, and Nya asks if that's appropriate for them.

Meanwhile, Uthaug runs up to show the village he found a piece of Lloyd's gi and there were signs of a fight and an avalanche. The Ice Fishers and Ninja are concerned and hoped he is safe.

The Traveler's Tree

In Cole's nightmare, Jay, Kai, and Lloyd were disappointed in Cole after he left the tea behind. They made him go back for it, and the Bounty fell off the cliff.

Jay wakes him up, claiming it was just a nightmare. After he storms off, Kai told Jay he will eventually calm down.

Later, the Kai and Jay asked Nya where Cole was and told her what happened earlier. Boma and Uthaug rush to tell them Cole is also on the mountain, prompting Jay and Nya to go after him while Kai stays behind to protect the village.

My Enemy, My Friend

When Boreal attacks Great Lake, Kai tries to save the villagers but due to his powers being weak, he fails and the Ice Fishers were frozen as a result.

Later, when Cole, Jay, Nya, and Krag saw the village frozen, Kai blames himself for not being able to save them but later comes up with a plan to find the Land Bounty, fix it, and take the fight to the Emperor of Ice. However, when the others agreed with Kai's plan, Kai gets scared by Krag's roar and notices his presence for the first time.

A Fragile Hope

Kai and their friends are searching for Land Bounty when they are chased by wolves. This eventually leads them to the Land Bounty and they used a fire extinguisher to scare the wolves away. Kai is helping Nya and Jay with the fixing the Land Bounty when the wolves return. Krag, Cole, and Jay hold them off and Nya manages to start it up. They use it to outrun the wolves and head for the Ice Emperor's castle.

Once and for All

Kai is with Nya in the drivers' seats, when Nya tells him to tell the others that they are approaching the Ice Emperor's Castle. After everyone buckles up, Nya alerts the team that something big is approaching the Land Bounty and Kai volunteers to take care of it. He leaps up to the cannon above, looking around for the target. When he sees Boreal, he recognizes him and shouts a warning at the others. He takes aim and fires many shots at Boreal, but this appears to not affect him. Boreal eventually seizes the cannon and destroys it. He then reaches for Kai and another part of the Bounty. Kai quickly jumps inside and heads off to join the other Ninja. Nya eventually stuns Boreal for a good amount of time while the Ninja and Krag get their emotions back together.

Awakenings

After managing to incapacitate the beast, they discover it was an elemental creation. Nya tells them that the Ice Emperor could only be Zane, which shocked Kai and the others. He tries to deny this, but he realized she was right due to the corruptive power of the Scroll of Forbidden Spinjitsu that Zane still had. The Ninja decided to warn Lloyd but Boreal regained its strength and attacked, as the Bounty was destroyed in the process.

Kai was left dazed by the attacking Boreal, as he sees his friends panicking. Enraged by the dragon, Kai regained his True Potential and destroyed the dragon, allowing them to progress.

After Zane destroyed his scepter and returned the realm to normal, Kai and the other Ninja soon arrive at the throne and see Zane back to his old self and the latter greets them with a hug.

Sometime later Grimfax took back power and he, along with the Formlings, came to the mutual decision to banish Vex to the outskirts of the Never-Realm for his crimes. Kai returned to the Great Lake with his friends and learn there was no way to return to Ninjago. Upon hearing this, the ninja were distraught, but Cole remembers something and hands Sorla a Traveler's Fruit. In the end, a portal to Ninjago is opened, and the ninja return to Wu's monastery.

Upgrade

Kai and the rest of the ninja were chasing the Mechanic after he robbed a warehouse. However, the Mechanic was able to escape quickly. When Nya and Jay joined the ninja late, Lloyd asked about their previous whereabouts, to which Jay and Nya lied about what they actually did.

Prime Empire

Would You Like to Enter Prime Empire?

Kai and the rest of the ninja fought The Mechanic and his crew when they were caught robbing an old electronics warehouse. Kai caught the motherboard when it fell out of the Mechanic's hand, but he was forced to throw it elsewhere when the Mechanic's Henchmen attacked him.

Eventually, the Mechanic ran away in his noodle truck, so Kai used his ATV to chase after him. During the chase, he was driven off the road, but Cole managed to chain the Mechanic's vehicle, who was arrested shortly after.

The ninja then explored the Mechanic's Headquarters since he was trying to run away into that building. While Jay was trying to play Prime Empire, the rest of the ninja continued to explore. At some point, they reached a room containing weird symbols and found a computer asking the ninja if they had found the motherboard. Zane replied with yes and the voice, named Unagami, commanded them to play the game which confused everyone. The ninja then headed back to tell Jay, but he had mysteriously disappeared.

Dyer Island

The ninja searched around the Mechanic's Headquarters, but could not find Jay. That was when Nya realized that Jay was able to turn on the arcade cabinet. The ninja then looked on video and discovered that the shockwave was from the arcade cabinet, and that had Jay had entered Prime Empire through a portal in the cabinet.

The ninja interrogated the Mechanic but he refused to give answers. Meanwhile, the Police Commissioner came in and reported of all the arcade cabinets turning into Prime Empire. Kai concluded that the shockwave had caused all of the games to change.

The next morning, the ninja headed to Dyer Island in hopes of finding Milton Dyer, the creator of Prime Empire. They encountered many traps such as statues that would fire lasers as well as robot dogs. Fortunately, Bob the Intern turned off the security system and let the ninja inside the Dyer Mansion.

The group asked questions about Milton Dyer and Prime Empire, and after the conversation with Bob, the ninja believed that Unagami was Milton Dyer trying to seek revenge against Vast Industries.

Level Thirteen

The ninja headed to Borg Tower to see how Borg's study on the game had been going. In his office, Borg explained that was not only Jay who was inside Prime Empire, but over 800 people as well. When they decided teams on who was going into the game while the others find Milton Dyer, they were alerted by the escaped prisoners making their way to the office to stop them. Kai then realized that when Cole began to play the game, he berated him on not even starting and just picking an Avatar. He then attempted to go and fight the escapees, but Borg told them that going down there wouldn't be wise, seeing as the security systems would fight anything that was moving down there, which included the ninja themselves.

Nevertheless, Soto, Ultra Violet, the Mechanic, and a couple of other prisoners made it to the top. Kai and Zane attempted to hit Soto with their powers at the same time, but they collided and created water under Soto's feet. As the Pirate Captain teased them, Kai watched Zane freeze the water beneath him, turning it into ice and causing Soto to slip into the desk. Kai, along with his friends, continued to fight the villains as Cole attempted to reach Level 13. He was busy holding back Soto when Cole managed to do this and went to follow him into the game. Realizing that Soto and some of the prisoners were trying to chase her brother, Nya let go of the police tape that she and Lloyd wrapped around Ultra Violet, causing her to fall onto her allies.

Once inside the game with his teammates, minus P.I.X.A.L. and Zane, Kai was amazed to see the Game World around them.

Superstar Rockin' Jay

Kai and the rest of the ninja embarked on their search for Jay within Prime Empire, encountering the Red Visors along the way. The Red Visors revealed their laser blasters and declared their intention to eliminate the ninja. Kai's expression turned grim, confirming the severity of the situation. Despite their efforts to use Spinjitzu and their Elemental Powers, the ninja discovered that they were ineffective. Seeking shelter, the ninja regrouped. Kai, frustrated, expressed his dismay, questioning why he couldn't go a moment without losing his Elemental Powers. They continued to fight the Red Visors, with Kai landing a punch but hurting his hand in the process. Soon, Kai was taken aback as he saw "Jay" fighting against a Red Visor. He immediately informed his friends, who appeared to be witnessing similar encounters involving different versions of Jay. Perplexed by the existence of multiple Jays, Beta Jay 137 disclosed that he and his team were part of an organization known as the League of Jay. Kai's disbelief was evident as he questioned whether they were referring to the Lightning Ninja.

In the midst of a drone attack, the ninja and League of Jays found themselves surrounded. While the League of Jays easily defeated the drones, Kai and the ninja struggled to take down even one. In a daring move, Kai jumped onto the face of a drone, but was quickly blasted off by its laser. The force sent him flying off the building, resulting in his death. However, to his surprise, Kai found himself alive again, realizing that they were in a video game and he had respawned. He chuckled at the realization that none of it was real. The ninja suddenly came across three Red Visors up ahead. Lloyd, Nya, and Cole found hiding spots, but Kai stood out in the open without fear. Concerned for his safety, Nya urged Kai to hide, but he dismissed her worries, since they were in a video game. Determined to create a diversion, Kai approached the Red Visors and began taunting them by insulting Unagami. Enraged, the Red Visors retaliated by firing their weapons at Kai, chasing him down the alley and shooting him. Kai respawned beside the ninja. Kai declared that "respawn" was his new favorite word. However, Cole expressed his doubts about the wisdom of Kai's actions, particularly in the context of gaming. Kai dismissed Cole's concerns, shrugging him off and suggesting that Cole was simply upset because he, as the team's gaming expert, did not come up with the discovery himself. With a sense of pride, Kai confidently marched away. As the ninja reached their destination, a desolate parking lot, they found themselves perplexed by the unexpected circumstances. Kai, expressing his earlier concerns, voiced his opinion about the League of Jays, deeming them as eccentric individuals. He firmly believed that anyone who possessed such an intense admiration for Jay couldn't possibly be considered rational.

Kai meeting Scott

Kai and the rest of the ninja found themselves face-to-face with the ally Beta Jay 137 had mentioned. Nya swiftly shared the password with the ally, who then introduced himself as Scott. With a sense of trust established, Scott invited the ninja and Kai into his garage. Kai stumbled upon a device, unaware of its potential danger. Scott urgently warned him not to touch it, but Kai's curiosity got the better of him. He pressed the button, triggering a fatal explosion. Kai found himself instantly revived next to Scott. He marveled at the concept of infinite lives, only to be corrected by Scott. In Prime Empire, they were only granted four lives, and Kai had already used up three. Feeling betrayed, Kai lashed out at the other ninja for not telling him, despite ignoring Cole earlier. Kai asked Scott about the consequences of losing all four lives. Scott warned him that the outcome was dreadful. Scott guided Kai and the ninja toward a concealed chamber nestled within his garage. As they cautiously made their way through the mysterious area, they were astounded to encounter the League of Jays. Kai was momentarily stunned, questioning whether they have stumbled into a nightmare. However, his confusion was swiftly dispelled as the ninja reunite the real Jay.

I am Okino

As the ninja set foot in Terra Karana, Kai remained perplexed by how Jay had managed to gather a group of devoted followers, whom he had referred to as "nutjobs." Jay, however, swiftly corrected him, asserting that the League of Jays were not "nutjobs" but rather passionate fans. Nya reminded the team to stay focused on their mission of acquiring one of the three Key-Tanas needed to enter the Temple of Madness. Kai struggled to recall the name of the Key-Tanas, prompting Okino to intervene and enlighten them. Okino introduced himself as a failed guide who had once led adventurers through Terra Karana. Expressing their gratitude, Nya thanked Okino for his assistance, while Kai admitted their complete cluelessness about their current endeavor.

The Glitch

Kai and the rest of the ninja headed out with Okino into the Forest of Discontent. Their first obstacles were bushes which contained the Thorns of Discontent. Kai decided to lay back and not attack which earned him a look from the rest of the ninja and Okino. Kai then explained that he only had one life and could not take any hits.

Okino and the ninja eventually reach a point where the former thought the upcoming obstacle could be Strangler Vines. Lloyd found out that is was not, but they were ambushed by the Whack Rats. The ninja defeated the Whack Rats and tied up Ritchie, holding him captive. They interrogated him and Ritchie revealed that Unagami ordered them to ambush the ninja. Lloyd then commented about Unagami preventing the ninja from winning the game which confused Okino. The ninja then explained that Prime Empire was not a real-world and that Unagami was the creator of the world. However, Okino didn't believe it causing Jay thinks he was not programmed to understand the truth.

Realizing Unagami was playing dirty, the ninja were about to leave, but Ritchie urged the Ninja to cut him down because he has an itch. Ritchie then told the ninja that there was a glitch in the game that could allow the ninja to bypass the Forest of Discontent. The ninja ended up letting Ritchie down and he began scratching his body.

Ritchie guided the ninja to the glitch to which he jumped in, and Okino was confused and bewildered at the sight of it. The rest of the ninja entered as well where they were teleported to a purple cubed room. They walked forward and all of a sudden, Red Visors appeared and began shooting the ninja. The ninja pulled out their prime controllers to defend themselves as Ritchie looked on before leaving the room. The ninja began to lose numerous lives until Okino entered and fought the Red Visors giving the ninja a chance to escape. Everyone managed to escape except Lloyd, who was waiting for Okino to come along. Okino decided to go with Lloyd as he pushed him through the portal.

The ninja and Okino landed outside the Forest of Discontent. Lloyd thanked Okino, but he was sitting down sadly realizing the world he was living in was not real. Okino thought he's a pawn, but Lloyd downplayed the idea as he told Okino that he was the one who made his own decision, not Unagami, thus not making a pawn. Lloyd then told Okino to trust in himself and in the ninja as friends and as an ally to help them get past Terra Karana.

The Cliffs of Hysteria

Kai began climbing the Cliffs of Hysteria and taunted the Red Visors for not being able to catch up. As they were climbing, Kai did a backflip and landed on one of the drones. He used the drone to destroy most of the Red Visors before reaching the top with it. He then listened to one of the Red Visors being interrogated by Lloyd before it glitched and disappeared.

The Maze of the Red Dragon

The ninja and Okino began dashing through traps and just before Cole asked Okino where to go, Unagami paused the game to speak with Okino. When the game was unpaused, the ninja asked again, and Okino once again guided them.

They made it to where the Red Dragon and the Purple Key-Tana were located. Jay attempted to steal it when the dragon was sleeping, but the ninja accidentally awakened it when they attempted to save Jay. Kai and the ninja struggled to attack the Red Dragon until Okino struck the dragon on its weak spot, breaking his programming. The ninja began striking that same point until Jay grabbed the Key-Tana and took out the remaining lives.

One Step Forward, Two Steps Back

Jay introduced Terra Technica to the ninja and they decided to sign up for the Speedway Five-Billion. Unfortunately, they didn't have enough credits to enter the race due to Kai spending his credits on a new avatar, and to make matters worse, they were shortly surrounded by Red Visors. Jay fought one of them but was forced to have a weapon upgrade, which caused them to need more credits once they were done fighting. They then saw an advertisement for a dance competition and decided to enter to obtain more credits.

Jay and Nya began dancing and rank up points rapidly. This impressed the rest of the ninja as they didn't know Jay was an excellent dancer. 

Meanwhile, the Red Visors began to show up, so the ninja began fighting them in the background. Eventually, Jay and Nya managed to win the contest, and fans began rushing on the stage to congratulate them. One Red Visor tried to crawl his way towards Jay and Nya, but Kai poked his back and punched his head.

After winning the competition, Jay and Nya cashed out their earnings to enter the race. The ninja then realized that they needed cars, but Jay claimed he knew someone who could lend them cars, so they headed out to Scott. 

Racer Seven

Scott showed the ninja all of the vehicles he had and commented that he wasn't going to be racing due to him having only one life left. Jay replied by saying that some things are worth fighting for, but Scott didn't want to be a hero. Jay then explained that Scott has been in the game for way too long, explaining his behaviour.

While Lloyd headed out to check out the track, the rest of the ninja began making repairs to their vehicles. While Nya was working on a car, the engine exploded and Jay checked to see if she was okay. Nya then got upset that the vehicle is now destroyed, but Lloyd came back telling the team that he thought Racer Seven could race with them. However, Scott revealed that Racer Seven was programmed to lose which got affection from Jay and Nya. Lloyd then went out to find her.

After a grueling day, the ninja rebuilt four vehicles but still needed another one. That was when Racer Seven arrived, so the ninja and Scott came out to greet her. Lloyd then asked if she will participate or not.

The Speedway Five-Billion

While the ninja were talking to Racer Seven, the alarm sounded as Red Visors began shooting the base. Lloyd said he would hold them off, but the ninja didn't let him, so Scott decided to hold off the Red Visors. The ninja manage to escape, but Jay cries out when Scott was cubed.

The ninja entered the race and as the race went on, more and more racers got eliminated. Jay pulled upfront, and he got side to side with Richie. They both recognized each other and Richie threw a bomb at him. Luckily, Jay ducked down in time for it to go over his jet and hit another competitor, sending it flying back and hitting other vehicles as well.

Knowing that their friends stood a better chance of winning than them, the Kai and Cole exchanged knowing nods. Kai's mech jumped on a Red Visors' car and Cole threw his wrecking ball at two other Red Visors' cars, one being the one he hit with the wrecking ball with and the other he snagged while dragging the other car back. As all the vehicles were about to collide, Kai and Cole wished their friends good luck. A giant explosion occurs and everyone was shocked when two energy cubes fall to the track. Jay and Nya screamed for their friends while Lloyd hung his head down in despair while Unagami's drones picked up the cubes.

Game Over

Kai and the other ninja were freed from Prime Empire and returned to Ninjago, where he was reunited with Jay, Wu, Zane, and P.I.X.A.L. Kai wondered if they got the key-tana, to which Jay stated that he will fill them up on the events they had missed later. While the ninja were wondering what happened to Unagami, Jay reassured them that, like everyone else trapped in Prime Empire, he was at his home.

Master of the Mountain

Shintaro

Kai and the rest of the ninja got excited when they received an invitation to the Kingdom of Shintaro. Later, Kai and the rest of the ninja headed to the Ivory City via the Destiny's Bounty. However, they encountered some Dire Bats. Kai spotted a couple trying to tear the sail, so he got on top of the mast and shot fireballs at the bats. However, the Bounty still descended after one of the Dire Bats ran into the mast containing the sail. Although all hope seemed lost, the Army of Shintaro arrived in time to lift the ship while Hailmar greeted the ninja and showed them the Kingdom of Shintaro in the horizon.

Into the Dark

Kai and the ninja were escorted inside the Throne Room of the Kingdom of Shintaro where they met King Vangelis and Princess Vania.

During the middle of the night, Kai was alarmed by Cole who described a purple monster in his room. However, Kai and the ninja thought he was dreaming and told him to go back to sleep.

The Worst Rescue Ever

Kai and the other ninja were strolling through the magnificent gardens, while they realized that Cole is missing.

Suddenly, Princess Vania appeared from out of a tunnel in a frenzy, telling the ninja that she went into the Dungeons with Cole and found something terrible. There was an underground mine filled with little creatures forced to mine by black skeletons. Cole stayed behind to rescue them, and told her to get help.

The seven of them went to tell King Vengelis, but he is angry at his daughter for disobeying his orders; thus endangering their guests. He said that he would send his guards down at once to find Cole, but he also would not allow the ninja to go. Kai attempted to argue, but Wu silenced him. The ninja realized that the creature that Cole saw in his bedroom was real all along.

The ninja left the throne room, and made secret plans to enter the dungeons behind the King's orders. Vania agreed to show them the way into the dungeons, and she led the way back to the garden.

Wu agreed to stay behind with Vania, feeling that he would slow the rest of them down. The ninja entered the cave and found that Vania was telling the truth. Zane detected simple weapons and crude fortifications from the skeletons, and Kai suggested that they bust up the bags of bones, and rescue Cole nice and quickly.

They all agreed, stole the keys to Cole's cage, and freed him at last. In order to delay their possible capture, Zane dropped a cage on some approaching skeletons with his shuriken. Cole told them to keep the volume down, as there was a winged masked man who lives in the temple in the center who did they didn't want to meet.

The two tribes of creatures that lived in the dungeons, the Geckles and Munce, began to quarrel with each other, causing a ruckus. This alerted the Awakened Warriors, who began to attack the ninja. Lloyd ordered Jay and Nya to take out the warriors, while the rest of them ran away. Kai and the others were in shock, watching the Geckles and Munce call each other "blade stealers". Meanwhile, the ninja found that the Awakened Warriors went down without much trouble.

While trying to defend themselves, Zane realized that his Elemental Powers were no use in the dungeons.

All the commotion caused the masked man to exit his temple. The man revealed himself as the Skull Sorcerer, a masked man in a black gown with wings, wielding a glowing green skull. The Skull Sorcerer used the green skull in his hands to awaken the black skeletons around him, overwhelming the ninja, leading to their defeat and eventual capture.

The Two Blades

Kai and the other ninja were put to work by the Awakened Warriors, forced to mine heaping amounts of Vengestone, which explained their inability to use their powers.

After causing a ruckus, they were locked up in a cage with several Geckles. When Gliff picked a fight with Murt, the ninja inquired them on how their feud started.

The Geckle explained that long ago, a hero named "Gilly" (who the Munce argues was named "Milly"), entered the mountain with two blades to defend the Geckles and Munce from a terrible dragon known as Grief-Bringer (who the Munce argues was called "Mief-Bringer"). After defeating the dragon, "Gilly" left behind her blades as gifts to the Geckles and Munce— leaving the Ivory Blade of Deliverance to the Geckles, and the Shadow Blade of Deliverance to the Munce.

The two tribe's feud started when the Munce apparently stole their blade, however the Munce argues that the Geckles were the ones that stole the blade. The ninja came to the conclusion that it wasn't either tribe who stole the blades, rather the Skull Sorcerer, in order to get control over both tribes. While the tribes were fighting over themselves, they couldn't fight the Skull Sorcerer.

Lloyd put together a plan to get the two tribes to make a truce so they can all break out. Word was passed around through Geckles and Munce about a secret meeting after lunch, and when the time came, they discussed retrieving both Blades by defeating the Skull Sorcerer.

Later, the ninja broke out of their cages by getting a Mino to eat through their chains. The ninja split up, and while Cole and Lloyd attempted to find the two blades, the others go about releasing the remaining Geckles and Munce. A few minutes later, chaos ensued, while Cole and Lloyd were chased away by the Skull Sorcerer.

In the commotion, the ninja were split up so that Jay, Nya, and Lloyd go one path, while Zane and Kai go down another. Kai noticed Cole dodging many attacks from the Skull Sorcerer and encouraged him to follow him and Zane. Before he could, the Skull Sorcerer blocked off the front of their tunnel with an small avalanche, much to Kai's dismay as Cole was further separated from the group as he was chased by the Skull Sorcerer.

Trial By Mino

Kai and Zane were walking through a cave when they heard Geckles singing while collecting moss-milk. The two hid, but were caught when Groko fell off his ladder and the Moss Milk landed on Kai. The Geckles thought the ninja worked for the Skull Sorcerer and took them to Chancellor Gulch.

After tough views from both sides, Gluch decided to place the ninja in a "Trial by Mino" so they fell into a pit. Suddenly, a Mino came out and charged at the ninja. While being chased, Zane recognized that the Mino had Vengestone armor and was able to remove it. The Mino then calmed down and even licked the two ninja.

The ninja said they are Elemental Masters, so the Geckles believed they might know "Gilly." Meanwhile, Zane noticed Gleck's necklace, and realized that it was the one Cole claimed to have seen. The two told them that they do not know "Gilly", but Zane stated that they are looking for their friends, who wer also Elemental Masters. Gulch agreed to help them in light of the dishonor they brought upon themselves by suspecting the ninja. He then promptly resigned as chancellor and gave the position to Kai, which all the Geckles agreed to by throwing rocks at him. He accepted the position reluctantly but told them not to throw things at him anymore, but the Geckles threw more rocks at him in support of his proposal. He then asked for information on the Skull Sorcerer at Zane's suggestion.

Gulch took them to the story cave and told them of their people's origin. During their dark ages, a great hero named "Gilly" arrived to save them from Grief-Bringer and gifted them with the Blades of Deliverance, but it was stolen by the Munce. Kai quickly cut him off, as they already knew that part of the story, and asked about the Skull Sorcerer. Gulch says that three adventurers had ventured deep into the tunnels where all Geckles were forbidden to enter, and awoke an ancient evil - the Skull Sorcerer and the Awakened Warriors. He captured many Geckles and Munce to mine for him, and where they once lived openly, they now had to hide and pray that the Skull Sorcerer doesn't find them.

Kai decided that to defeat the Skull Sorcerer, he must unite the Geckles and Munce, so he proposed teaming up with the Munce, only for the suggestion to be perceived as a joke. He stated that they need a different approach, to which Zane expressed his agreement by throwing a rock at his head.

Grief-Bringer

Kai informed the Geckles they'll be attending the truce meeting with the Munce, but the Geckles believed it was be a trap. To decide the matter, Gulch proposed a slug race.

During the race, Gleck pulled Kai and Zane aside and told them that he believes the Munce were not evil and they didn't steal the Blades of Deliverance. Kai recognized the necklace he's wearing and asked why he went into the palace earlier. After Gleck explained himself, Zane asked for the necklace and discovered the pictures of Cole's parents: Lou and Lilly. Correctly deducing that Lilly is Gilly, in the process. Gleck was exhilarated that the ninja knew Lilly, so he asked Kai and Zane to get her help, but Kai gave Gleck the unfortunate news that Lilly passed away a while ago.

Back at the race, the snail that they wanted to win wasn't winning, so Kai encouraged Zane to cheat. Zane questioned the move at first, but Kai assured him it will be beneficial in the long run. After Zane cheated and allowed the snail the ninja want to win, Kai was excited and they headed off to the meeting.

When they arrived, Kai realizes her sister Nya was the new Munce Queen. The siblings hugged each other, but tensions between the Geckles and Munce increased. When the ninja were able to calm everyone down, they heard the sound of Grief-Bringer and they all retreated.

During the retreat, Kai almost landed in the lava as he was crossing the lava field, but Nya was able to save him.

The Darkest Hour

While running away, Kai was informed by Gulch that the Geckle Strong-Cave was the only way to take cover. The former was about to shout it out to everyone else, but Gulch thought he was crazy and that they didn't want the Munce to hear as well. However, Kai believed they were united.

When Nya and the Munce were trying to close the gate, Kai and the rest of the ninja headed out to buy time for them to close it. The ninja performed Spinjitzu to defeat most of the Awakened Warriors, but they quickly rebuilt themselves. Murtessa was able to break the chains to the gate and the ninja retreated back in.

Kai thought they are safe from danger, but Gulch was upset at Kai for allowing the Munce to enter as well. Tensions once rose between the two tribes as they called each other different names.

Even though both sides disliked each other, they both were fearful when Grief-Bringer and the Awakened Warriors attempted to tear down the gate. Nya recognized a pile of rocks covering something and asked the Geckles and Munce to work together to remove the rocks. Kai marvelled at their teamwork, and when they were done, he entered first, only for him to discover there was no other way out.

Murtessa and Gulch apologized to each other and Kai and Nya officially established peace with the opposing tribes. At the same time, the Skull Sorcerer destroyed the gate and was about to fight until the ninja decided to surrender themselves and allow the Geckles and Munce to be free. The Skull Sorcerer agreed and the ninja were taken away.

The Upply Strike Back!

Nya and Kai, trapped

Kai advised Nya, who was attempting to escape, to conserve her energy since the cage was made of Vengestone. Nya expressed regret for the ninja falling for the Skull Sorcerer's deceitful promises, while Kai mentioned his own disappointment in becoming the worst Geckle Chancellor due to it. The Skull Sorcerer unveiled his plan to eliminate the ninja with the help of Grief-Bringer, forcing the Geckles and Munce into submission. However, Hazza D'ur continuously echoed the Skull Sorcerer's words. In a jesting manner, Kai questioned whether he should focus on the Skull Sorcerer or Hazza Du'r to mock the two sorcerers. Lloyd believed that Cole was en route to warn King Vangelis about the Skull Sorcerer, but it was revealed that the Skull Sorcerer was actually Vangelis himself, much to Kai's dismay.

Subsequently, Vangelis prepared to release Grief-Bringer when Cole stepped in, engaging in a fight with Vangelis. The ninja supported Cole, while Kai encouraged him to defeat Vangelis. Plundar and Adam showed up to rescue Kai and the ninja from captivity, disclosing their allegiance to Cole, causing Kai to question Cole's recruitment of a team independently. Nevertheless, after being liberated, Kai and the ninja participated in the battle against the Re-Awakened.

The Son of Lilly

In the midst of the battle for Shintato Mountain, Kai found himself facing off against Grief-Bringer. Despite his best efforts to utilize his Spinjitzu against the dragon, Kai was quickly overpowered by the beast's sheer strength. Kai came up with a plan to evade Grief-Bringer by jumping onto the back of Zane's Mino. Together, Kai and Zane regrouped with the rest of the ninja as they continued to engage in combat against the Re-Awakened. As the battle raged on, Grief-Bringer once again appeared before them, ready to strike. Thankfully, Wu and Chompy arrived to assist the ninja in their fight against the undead dragon. Cole managed to unlock the Spinjitzu Burst, capturing the attention of Kai and everyone else present. Cole was able to destroy the Skull of Hazza D'ur, causing the downfall of the Re-Awakened and instilling a deep sense of triumph and relief in Kai, the other ninja, and the Shintarians.

Kai and the ninja partook in Vania's crowning, and they celebrated together. Once the ceremony was over, the ninja bid farewell to the Shintarians and boarded the Bounty. However, Wu wanted to go wherever the wind would take them. Zane, not understanding the expression, asked Kai for an explanation, and Kai revealed that they were about to embark on a new adventure.

The Island

Uncharted

Kai went with the ninja to Twitchy Tim's gas station in order to get the latter's help, which they succeeded in doing so after some discussion. They then traveled on the Destiny's Bounty to the uncharted island, but were halted from continuing due to the rise in electrostatic levels. Changing their course of action, they opted to continue on some water vessels. On the way, Kai's catamaran suffered a glitch which prevented the pontoons from joining together, forcing Zane, Jay, and Cole to tilt the catamaran on its side. Doing so, they lost the sail in the process. After arriving at the island, P.I.X.A.L. deployed motorbikes to the ninja, and they proceeded to drive down the shore to Misako and Wu's settlement, which they found abandoned. With no other choice, they continued deeper into the jungle.

The Keepers of the Amulet

The ninja - including Kai - traveled through the jungle on their jungle choppers. While driving, they noticed a movement in the vegetation. This eventually turned out to be a jungle dragon, whom Jay named "Zippy." They eventually continued on foot, until they approached a stone totem. The ninja fought the stone totems but began to lose, due to the ability of the stone totems to channel elemental powers. Kai and other ninja ran away from them - with Lloyd getting separated - and they reached a rope bridge. They then successfully crossed the bridge but were zapped by a group of islanders. When they woke up, they were led by the Keepers to their leader, who assumed that the ninja were there to steal a priceless artifact. The ninja attempted to convince him that they weren't there to steal it, but due to the fact that they had seen it, the leader declared the ninja will be their prisoners, forever.

The Gift of Jay

Mammatus, the leader of the Keepers, ordered for Kai and the ninja - except for Lloyd who was absent - to be taken away to a cell, other than Jay. After they were thrown into the cell, they discovered Misako and her expedition group, who were also imprisoned. After a while, Lloyd came to the rescue and freed them. They proceeded to search for Jay, but failed to locate him. Eventually, they were caught off-guard and were zapped by the Keepers, knocking them out. When they woke up, they were tied to poles, and were forced to watch the Keepers' sacrifice of Jay, which was placing him on a raft and sending out on the sea to "Wojira."

The Tooth of Wojira

As the ninja were forced to watch the Keepers' sacrifice of Jay to "Wojira," the Keepers had their backs to them. Taking advantage of this situation, Kai began to burn the ropes binding him to a pole. He eventually broke out and freed the other ninja too. By the time the Keepers realized what was happening, the ninja were already freed and began to fight the Keepers. They were able to pass them and go after Jay's raft. Unfortunately for them, they weren't able to stop the monster from taking Jay. However, Lloyd realized that the monster was a fake, due to him finding the wooden tooth.

The ninja returned to the island but encountered the Keepers once more. However, Lloyd informed them that the monster was a fake, and inquired about the reason of the sacrifices. After Mammatus explained everything to them, they asked him to draw a map of the coastline highlighting hiding places. The ninja then headed to the monster's hiding spot, where they located Jay and fought numerous henchmen. Ronin revealed himself to be the leader of the criminal gang and began to make an escape. However, Twitchy Tim came in time to stop him, and as he attempted to escape, Kai and Cole blocked his way. Later, Mammatus apologized to Kai and the ninja, who accepted it.

The Virtues of Spinjitzu

Curiosity

Kai and Jay engaged in a friendly competition to see who can break the most bricks, in which the winner would keep the last cookie. The two ninja stack and broke more bricks, with Jay initially breaking three and Kai breaking five. However, Kai ultimately won by smashing a tall pile of 101 bricks with his powers. Just as Kai reveled in his triumph, Wu arrived. He was taken aback by the chaotic state of the courtyard. In an attempt to cover up their actions, Kai and Jay hastily claimed that they were training and meditating on the Six Fundamental Virtues of Spinjitzu. However, their deception was quickly exposed when Kai and the rest of the ninja had no recollection of the virtues. As a result, they were forced to meditate to reflect on and internalize the Spinjitzu Virtues.

While the ninja were deep in their meditation, Wu emphasized the importance of curiosity, balance, wisdom, honesty, generosity, and courage as the Virtues of Spinjitzu. Their reflection was abruptly interrupted by a loud knocking on the doors. Wu instructed them to reflect on his words and left to attend to the visitor. As the ninja contemplated their lessons, Nya, unable to contain her curiosity, opened the doors and was met with a green dragon attacking the ninja with Wu in its grasp. Kai and the other ninja did their best to fight the dragon, but the dragon was able to deflect their attacks and escape through a portal. The ninja then entered the portal hoping to save Wu.

Balance

The ninja exited through the portal and saw the green dragon. Kai saw Wu and was about to run to him, but Nya pulled him back and pointed out the lava separating them and Wu. While watching Jay and Lloyd attempting to cross the lava, the rest of the ninja were ambushed by Pyro Whippers. Kai attempted to use his Elemental Powers, but the Pyro Whippers spat it right back at Kai and Nya. Realizing their attacks were ineffective, Kai and Nya began crossing the lava, but had to deal with the Lava Monster. Fortunately, they were saved by the Thunder Dragon and entered the next portal.

Wisdom

Kai and the ninja raced in the Speedway Five-Billion attempting to reach the portal at the finish line. However, the Whack Rats were blocking their way and kept respawning every time they were defeated. Lloyd then realized they needed to be defeated in order to get across and after he "died", he respawned near the portal. The rest of the ninja followed suit and entered the next portal.

Honesty

Kai and Jay found themselves inside the Castle of Ice and encountered the Ice Emperor. The Ice Emperor had the rest of the ninja trapped in a cage and forced them to joust the Blizzard Warriors in order to move on. Kai suggested that they should opt for a different activity like juggling, and that Jay was a skilled ventriloquist. Jay denied his ventriloquism skills and points out that lying was not the right approach. Kai questioned Jay's sudden interest in truthfulness.

Kai successfully defeated the Blizzard Samurai and watched as Jay was jousting. After Jay was knocked off from his dragon, Kai insisted on lying, but Jay disagreed and told the Ice Emperor the truth. Kai, with a hint of sarcasm, remarked on the timing of Jay's newfound principles. However, the Ice Emperor revealed that the competition was actually a test of honesty, not jousting skill, and that Jay's honesty made him the true victor. The Ice Emperor freed the other ninja and created a portal for them to go through. As he went toward that portal, Kai joked about his earlier suggestion of using ventriloquism.

Generosity

Kai and the rest of the ninja fought the Awakened Warriors in the Mines of Shintaro. After saving the Geckles from the warriors, the ninja used the catapult to launch themselves to the next portal.

Courage

Kai and the ninja found themselves on the Island of the Keepers with Kai on his dragon. They discovered Wu being held captive by the Legendary Dragon along with three other dragons surrounded by a forcefield. The ninja suggested different strategies, but Kai disregarded everything proposed by the ninja and took the dragons head on. After Kai destroyed the forcefield, he protected Wu by using his Elemental Power as a shield. Despite the ninja defeating the dragons and saving Wu, their master informed them it was merely a lesson to teach the six Fundamental Virtues of Spinjitzu.

Seabound

A Big Splash

Kai and the ninja confronted a Vengestone smuggling operation by Miss Demeanor. They defeated her henchmen, but Nya lost control over a water cyclone she created. Thus, the ninja were forced to let Miss Demeanour escape as they evacuate farmers from the cyclone. Back at the Monastery, the ninja informed Wu about the operation before Nya spoke up and took full responsibility as she lost all control of her power. Shortly after, the emergency sprinkler activates short-circuiting all the electronics.

Later, Wu and the ninja - except Nya - studied a scroll in the library regarding the power of water. Wu then suggested that they should call Maya since she was the previous Master of Water and she would be able to help. Kai then nervously said that she and Nya weren't close, as the former was kidnapped when Nya was very young, but Wu insisted that Nya was reasonable. So Kai went to discuss with Nya about their parents coming to visit the Monastery, but Nya vehemently refused.

Later when Maya and Ray arrived at the Monastery, the former asked Kai where is Nya's room, which he pointed out to her. He also greeted Ray, his father. Realizing that her brother had gone against her wishes, Nya angrily confronted Kai, who shrugged as he said "What?."

The Call of the Deep

The next day, Kai was playing Lava Zombies with Ray when Nya walked into the room to talk to him. Too distracted, Kai continued playing the game, only stopping when Maya brought in sandwiches. Nya, frustrated at him for ignoring her, left the room.

Later, after a catastrophic energy wave caused the Monastery's water sources to go haywire, Kai helped the others clean up the mess.

Unsinkable

Kai, with the others, watched as P.I.X.A.L unveiled the Hydro Bounty.

Later, he was watching Ray play video games when Ray mentioned that nobody would be playing video games with him. Correcting him, Kai told him and the others that he and Cole would be staying behind to protect Ninjago. When he mentioned that he was better at Prime Empire than Cole was, Cole, who just entered the room, challenged him to see who was better at the game and began to play together.

Riddle of the Sphinx

Kai fought in a sparring match with his father, beating him, as part of an experiment by Wu to see how elemental powers would affect a former master. When asked by Wu to shoot a fireball at Ray, Ray quickly ran off. Cole then came up and told Kai and Wu that Clutch Powers stole the Storm Amulet and brought it to the Explorer’s Club, causing the group to spring into action to retake the artifact.

Upon arrival at the Explorer’s Club, Cecil Putnam told Kai and others that without a membership card, they could not enter. Due to it being the only way for non-members to enter, Misako invoked the Trial By Sphinx, a test where each person would have one chance to solve a riddle in order to enter the Club.

After Cole and Wu failed to correctly answer the Sphinx's riddle, Kai figured out that the answer was water, allowing the group to pass.

Entering the room where Clutch was showing off his artifact, Kai and the others demanded Clutch to return the artifact. However, before he could give it to them, Kalmaar, leading an army of Merlopian troops, burst into the room, also seeking the Storm Amulet. In the ensuing battle, Kai would take down several Merlopian troops and witness the other members of the Explorers' Club fight back.

Papergirl

After Kalmaar successfully took the Storm Amulet and burst out of the Explorer’s Club, Kai, from a rooftop launched a fireball at him while Wu and Cole attempted to retake the Amulet from him. Kalmaar successfully fended off all their attacks, leading Kai to lunge at him from a long range. That attack was quickly nullified as well, with Kalmaar using his trident to shoot an energy beam at him, knocking him back against a car.

However, the constant flurry of attacks caused the Storm Amulet to be knocked out of Kalmaar's hands, and Kai successfully delayed him enough to allow Nelson and Antonia to escape with it.

Kai later tracked down Nelson and Antonia, still with the Storm Amulet and being pursued by Kalmaar, and attacked Kalmaar, knocking the truck he was driving of course and allowing the other two to escape.

While fighting each other on the moving truck, neither Kai or Kalmaar focused on what was up ahead, resulting in the truck crashing into a canal, knocking Kai unconscious.

Antonia successfully rescued him and Nelson did CPR on him, reviving Kai. By then, Wu, Cole, and Ray caught up to where he was, and the group continued their pursuit of Kalmaar, leaving Antonia and Nelson behind.

After Seabound

Kai took lessons from Master Wu to cope with the loss of Nya after she merged with the Endless Sea.

Crystalized

Trying to get the team back together, Cole and Zane headed to Kai who was teaching kids at a dojo. He informed his students to always attack before the enemy knows they're coming, which confused Cole and Zane since Wu never taught them that. Cole and Zane offered Kai the option to look for the Vengestone smuggler, to which he happily accepted over teaching another class. They then went off to Lloyd and then Jay to bring them back into the team, which they succeeded in doing so eventually.

The Shape of Nya

The reunited ninja group up at the hangar bay, discussing on who could be smuggling Vengestone. When Jay comments on how they won't be able to succeed as a team without Nya, Kai expresses his frustration for him continuously bringing up Nya. Lloyd then settles down the dispute.

The ninja then head to the abandoned N line, and find a shipment of Vengestone and a man asking for a signature. The ninja then run into Miss Demeanor and her henchmen, but the New Ninja arrive and defeat them. After the crooks are arrested, the ninja are scolded by the New Ninja, before they leave.

As the ninja return to the hangar bay, the ninja express their frustrations over being replaced by the New Ninja team. Then, when Kai expresses his frustration for still grieving over Nya, he accidentally knocks over a glass of water. Kai tries to apologises, but is kicked down by Jay, and the two engage in a brief fight before setting the sprinklers off and causing Nya to return. She explains on how return her back to human by draining her elemental power, right before she is frozen by Zane. Realizing that Kai had is Fire powers stolen before, the ninja decide to free Aspheera to save Nya.

A Mayor Problem

Kai and the other ninja arrive at Mayor Ulysses Trustable's office to ask the mayor to free Aspheera in order to save Nya, though were unsuccessful. At one point, Kai gets annoyed at Jay for being unable to pick up on sarcasm. Back at the hangar bay, Lloyd decides to have him, Kai and Zane break into Kryptarium Prison to free Aspheera illegally, while he called in Skylor to keep Nya frozen until they return, to which Kai is surprised that Lloyd had her number (implying that he does not).

Meanwhile, Kai heads with Lloyd and Zane into Kryptarium Prison. To get through security, Zane freezes Kai and Lloyd and carries them in order for their heat to not be detected. After getting through, Kai uses his Fire to warm him and Lloyd up, right before Zane finds a secret hatch leading to Aspheera's cell. As they head there, Kai is the first one to confront her, and Lloyd tries to negotiate with Aspheera to steal Nya's powers, in return for her getting out of jail. The trio and Aspheera try to escape uphill, but the cell falls below, triggering the alarm. Kai and the others then run into prison guards on the way, and try to escape.

Public Enemies 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5!

Back at the Monastery, Kai and Lloyd show Aspheera around before showing her to Nya's frozen, aquatic state. When Wu tells Aspheera that she can steal her powers to save her, Kai expresses his frustration silently as Aspheera exclaims that she requires her staff to do that. P.I.X.A.L. then contacts Cyrus Borg to ask about the whereabouts of Aspheera's staff, contrary to Kai's sarcastic remark.

The five ninja then trail down the trucks for Aspheera's staff in their new vehicles. Kai breaks into one of the trucks with Jay, Lloyd, and Cole, only to run into and fight the New Ninja. During the fight, Kai accidentally says Zane's name out loud, giving away their identities to the New Ninja. However, the ninja manage to escape with Aspheera's staff, though they are now wanted by Ninjago Police.

A Painful Promise

The ninja return with Aspheera's staff, only for the Serpentine sorceress to start attacking them and exact her revenge on them. However, the alarms sound off, revealing the police, to which Zane reveals that Kai said his name out loud, exposing their identities. As Aspheera then proceeds to steal Nya's powers, the New Ninja arrive at the hangar bay, with Kai noting that someone forgot to close the secret entrance, only for Jay to point out that Kai was the last one to enter. The ninja then proceed to battle the New Ninja in order to buy Aspheera more time.

Eventually, Aspheera manages to drain Nya of her powers and the latter returns back to human, with Jay and Kai cradling her, overjoyed by her return. Kai and the other ninja are then taken to court by the New Ninja and the police.

The Coming of the King

Kai and Cole were working together on one of the drills for the Ninja Ultra Combo Mech. Kai was confident that he had fixed it and encouraged Cole to test it. Unfortunately, as soon as Cole activated the drill, it unexpectedly burst into flames. In a state of panic, Kai urgently told Cole to turn it off, and Master Wu swiftly extinguished the fire. Soon, Nya revealed that Lloyd's tracker was now back online and located in Primeval's Eye. Wu firmly declared that they needed to retrieve the Bounty, even though it was impounded and locked away with the other vehicles. He acknowledged that the only solution was to steal them, but would mean breaking the law once again. Kai respectfully addressed Master Wu, expressing that he and the others had already made their decision.

Compatible

In the newspaper warehouse, Kai stood before the citizens of Ninjago, empathizing with their fear and exhaustion caused by the crystal army's invasion. To lift their spirits, he and Skylor discovered bowls of noodles in the warehouse and distributed them among the crowd. As they gave the noodles out, Kai mustered the courage to ask Skylor to be his girlfriend. However, she was understandably annoyed by his prolonged absence and his desire to start a relationship amidst the chaos of the crystal infection. Kai then shared his journey after the Oni's invasion, and Skylor suggested they prioritize saving Ninjago before delving into their relationship.

Dragon Form

Upon witnessing the Crystal Island's approach, Kai and the others were informed by Wu about the Overlord's intention to corrupt the Elements of Creation. Kai asked about a possible solution to thwart the Overlord's plan. However, Wu responded that the battle had already been lost.

Roots

Upon realizing that the Golden Weapons needed to be united, Wu encountered opposition from Kai, who reminded him of the previous warning that the action would result in the weapons being destroyed. Wu clarified that uniting the weapons would allow their Elemental Powers to be casted out as they manifest in their original form, thereby preventing the Crystal King from obtaining the powers and destroying the Balance. Zane concurred with Wu's assessment, acknowledging that was the only solution to preserve the Balance, even though it entailed relinquishing Ninjago to the Overlord since there was no other way. Reluctantly, Kai and the other ninja agreed and proceeded to the rooftop of the newspaper warehouse. After Zane proclaimed how he could not have better friends to stand by with, Kai and the other ninja saluted the end. Following the successful union and destruction of the Golden Weapons, the ninja were corrupted by the Crystal King.

After Lloyd defeated the Crystal King, Kai and the other ninja, now purified of corruption, looked up at the Crystal Island. Wondering whether they won, Kai witnessed the island blow apart. He and the other ninja then ran to meet Lloyd. They looked at Harumi suspiciously until Lloyd reassured them that she was on their side. Looking at the Golden Ultra Dragon, Jay wondered whether it was what he thought it was, to which Kai responded that it was their Elemental Powers. The ninja petted the Golden Ultra Dragon, with Kai petting the Fire Dragon. After the dragon departed, Wu informed the ninja that their Elemental Powers were going back to where they came from. When Kai asked him whether they would ever get them back, Wu replied that power is never truly lost. As everyone else embraced their family or friends, Kai walked to Skylor.

A week later, after Kai and the other ninja put up the Monastery's gate, Zane told him that it would take over 12 years to rebuild the Monastery, to which Kai sarcastically responded that he always knew what to say. Dareth then arrived, telling the ninja he brought a lot of help to rebuild the Monastery. While everyone else was rebuilding the Monastery, Kai attempted to kiss Skylor before he was interrupted by Dareth.

After Crystalized

After losing his Elemental Power, Kai left the monastery and moved to a small apartment, frequently visiting Skylor at Chen's Noodle House.

Dragons Rising, Season 1

Return to Imperium

Kai joined the ninja on a mission to save Jiro from the Claws of Imperium. While impressed with Arin's abilities, Kai suggested that he should improve his punching technique after Arin accidentally hit himself in the face while trying to strike an Imperium Drone. Their triumph over the Dragon Hunters was short-lived when Rapton employed a Photac. Initially thinking it was just a hologram, Kai soon discovered that the Photac Beast was actually composed of solid light when it sent him flying. Attempting to combat the Photac with his Fire, Kai realized that it was unaffected, leading him to conclude that the Photac was indestructible, which he deemed unfair. The ninja hid from the Photac and tried to come up with a plan to defeat it, but their efforts were futile as the Claws of Imperium managed to escape with Jiro. Feeling defeated, Kai asked what they should do next, to which Sora suggested that she must return to Imperium to destroy the Photac.

Kai accompanied Lloyd, who was concerned about Arin and Sora's mission to Imperium. Arin, however, remained confident and reminded Lloyd of their progress in training, as well as the wise words of Master Wu. Kai chimed in, humorously imitating Master Wu's advice. Arin emphasized the importance of teamwork, stating that they were stronger together. Despite his initial hesitation, Lloyd eventually agreed to join them. Kai, excitedly, suggested going as well, but Lloyd insisted he stay behind to protect Ninjago from any potential MergeQuakes.

The Battle of the Second Monastery

Kai was perplexed by the abundance of Photacs, as they were intended to only be one. Lloyd proceeded to enlighten Kai, Nya, and Zane regarding the ongoing conflict and the presence of Wyldfyre. Witnessing Wyldfyre's fiery projections and lacking knowledge of Heat's existence, Kai hastily accused Wyldfyre to be an Elemental Master of Fire, something he deemed inconceivable and offensive. During the battle, Zane announced that their chances of winning the battle were slim. And Kai sarcastically responded. Zane suggested that their only option is to retreat to the Monastery of Imperium, which could temporarily keep the Claws out. However, when Wyldfyre refused to retreat, Kai agreed with her.

As the ninja made their way back to the Monastery of Imperium, Kai and Wyldfyre once again found themselves in agreement about not wanting to retreat. They celebrated their unity by exchanging a high five, using their Elemental Powers. Nya proposed using the portal gate they had initially arrived from to safely evacuate the dragons. However, Zane cautioned that the portal gate was only designed for smaller transports and would not be able to handle the transfer of so many dragons, unless there was an additional source of energy. Zane discovered a powerful energy source underneath Imperium and Kai urged Lloyd to act swiftly before the Claws broke through. While Lloyd and Zane set off to locate the energy source, Kai and the rest of the team were filled with apprehension as the Claws of Imperium continued to demolish the walls. Despite Kai's efforts to reassure Nya, he himself was uncertain if they were capable of handling the situation. Suddenly, Lloyd emerged from the ground, empowered by dragon energy, astonishing Kai and the others with his newfound ability. Lloyd utilized his power to activate the portal gate, allowing the dragons to escape. Shortly after, Rapton arrived, demanding to know the whereabouts of the dragons. Kai denied their presence, and Sora, Arin, and Riyu arrived to deactivate the Photacs. The ninja made their way to the portal gate, returning to Ninjago.

Days later, Kai, Nya, and Zane left from the dragon stables to rendezvous with Lloyd. Kai emphasized the importance of catching up, vividly describing Lloyd's impressive display of power when he had dragon power. Although Zane offered some understanding, Kai yearned for a firsthand account from Lloyd himself. In response, Lloyd candidly confessed that he was still struggling to come to terms with the situation, endeavoring to make sense of the predominantly negative visions he had saw. As Lloyd left to talked with Arin, Kai engaged in a conversation with the others.

The Administration

Wyldfyre was frustrated about Heatwave's slow healing process and questioned if the geode was effective. Kai responded by stating that healing took time. However, Wyldfyre disagreed, emphasizing the urgency to heal Heatwave and return the Dragon Core to the other ninja. Kai then explained that impatience only worsen the situation, clouding judgment and leading to poor decisions. Drawing from his own experience, he advised Wyldfyre to learn from Master Wu's techniques, specifically focusing on moving through forms to enhance concentration. Wyldfyre initially dismissed the idea. However, Kai assured her that the practice was not a waste of time and encouraged her to give it a try. Despite attempting to imitate Kai's movements, Wyldfyre struggled to concentrate and became frustrated with her inability to stop worrying about Heatwave's condition. Kai reassured her that the exercise would be most beneficial when she was feeling worried. He reminded her that she was not defined by her emotions and encouraged her to focus on her form, allowing the emotions to pass through her. Kai admitted that he was not known for his patience and shared a personal anecdote about how he had to practice his forms when Nya merged with the Endless Sea. Although he was not as skilled as the other ninja, he persisted until it helped calm him down. Kai believed that if it worked for him, it could work for Wyldfyre too, as she reminded him of his own impulsive nature.

While Kai was training alongside Wyldfyre, Heatwave's injuries healed. However, Kai's attention was soon drawn to the Dragon Core, as it started to flicker. Suspecting foul play, he broke it, discovering that the Dragon Core was fake. The revelation left Kai puzzled and anxious to find the whereabouts of the genuine Core. Both Kai and Wyldfyre soon came to the realization that Dorama had swapped the real Core with a replica. Upon their arrival at the Monastery of Spinjitzu, Kai and Wyldfyre reconvened with Lloyd and Arin. They shared the news that their mission to retrieve the purple Dragon Core had been unsuccessful. Kai also responded that he was unsure that Nya and Sora had managed to find the yellow Dragon Core. Realizing that Beatrix also had an interest in the Dragon Cores, Kai and the rest of the ninja decided to use the Bounty to make their way back to Imperium. There, they witnessed a massive shockwave caused by the energy of the Dragon Cores. Kai voiced his concerns to Lloyd, fearing that infiltrating Imperium would prove to be much more challenging than last time.

Absolute Power

While the ninja contemplate their entry into the Kingdom of Imperium, Kai takes the opportunity to remind Wyldfyre of the teachings on inner peace and centering oneself that he had previously shared. However, he advises her to put those ideas aside for now and instead embrace her powers and let loose. Wyldfyre agrees and creates a diversion to attract the attention of the Imperium Guards. With their attention diverted, Kai and the ninja swiftly defeat the guards. After the battle, Kai notices Wyldfyre playing with a Claw Staff and reminds her to stay focused. The ninja seize the guards' hoverboards and use them to fly into the Kingdom of Imperium, gaining entry by using a guard's hand to open the gates.

The source of the explosion was being investigated by the ninja when they unexpectedly encountered more Imperium Guards. Luckily, the guards were swiftly subdued by the Imperium Teen Resistance Force using tasers. Wyldfyre, however, felt let down as she wanted to fight, but Kai recognized that the Imperium Teen Resistance Force had arrived to save them. Subsequently, the Imperium Teen Resistance Force escorted Kai and the others to a safe location away from the view of the Imperium Guards.

We Are All Dragons

Percival guided Kai and the ninja through the Kingdom of Imperium. As they make their way, a sudden interruption occurred when Wyldfyre, despite trying to remain stealthy, bursted into a loud song. Sensing the need for silence, Kai stepped in and suggested a more subdued approach to maintain their covert mission, singing in a softer tone. Understanding the importance of discretion, Wyldfyre quickly adjusted and they resume their swift pace through the kingdom. Percival revealed that to retrieve the purple and yellow Dragon Cores, they must go to the Advanced Systems Lab. However, before they can proceed, they must first reach their base undetected, evading any Imperium Guards. Percival hints at the proximity of the tunnel entrance, emphasizing the need for caution. However, their progress was abruptly halted by the arrival of Beatrix, who descends in her Empress Mech, accompanied by the Claw Hunters. Beatrix turned her attention to Kai and the ninja, questioning their audacity to invade the kingdom. Kai responded by remarking that Beatrix underestimates Lloyd's capacity for foolishness, albeit with no intention to offend his friend. Kai observed with fascination as Beatrix wielded her Imperium Sword, successfully blocking the Elemental Powers that were being unleashed. The arrival of Nya and Sora at the Kingdom of Imperium marked a turning point, as they managed to dismantle the energy barrier, triggering an intense battle. Sora, addressing Lloyd with a hint of surprise, remarked on the unexpected encounter, questioning whether Imperium had also stolen his Dragon Core. Lloyd clarified that it wasn't the pink Dragon Core that had been taken, but rather Kai and Wyldfyre's. In response, Kai interjected, emphasizing that the situation shouldn't be seen as a competition.

While Beatrix was occupied by the dragons, the Resistance took advantage of the distraction and made their escape. Percival took them towards a nearby dumpster and jumped inside. Reflecting on his past encounter with the Walls of Punishment and the Pit of No Return, Kai remained resolute and, along with the other members of the Resistance, proceeded to follow Percival's lead, advancing towards their base of operations. Percival made it clear that the Imperium Teen Resistance Force had witnessed the ninja freeing the dragons, which directly contradicted Beatrix's denial of the event. Percival also revealed that there were other Imperians who opposed Beatrix and faced consequences for their actions, resulting in their expulsion from the kingdom or imprisonment. Additionally, they possessed evidence of Beatrix admitting to her deceitful behavior. Percival disclosed that they had an insider who could provide them with access to the broadcast tower, allowing them to hack into the encryption and broadcast their message on every screen in the kingdom. Sora agreed to join their cause and assist with hacking through the encryption. One of the teens informed them that the lab was under lockdown because of the explosion. Kai suggested that to carry out their plan, they would need to create a diversion to divert the attention of the Imperium Guards, which would involve him and Wyldfyre cause a massive explosion by destroying the Armory.

Wyldfyre and Kai stood outside a building. Wyldfyre remarked that according to the map, the building across them was the Imperium Armory. Kai and Wyldfyre used their Elemental Powers to destroy the building, anticipating an explosion. However, to their surprise, there was no explosion. Kai shared Wyldfyre's sentiment about the lack of a dramatic explosion, doubtful about whether this was truly the Armory. Wyldfyre pointed to the map as evidence of their correct location. However, Kai took the map from her hands and discovered that it was upside-down. Despite the confusion, Kai reassured Wyldfyre that the building they had unintentionally targeted still held great importance. However, their conversation was abruptly interrupted by the arrival of an Imperium Guard, who lamented the destruction of the shoulder pad storage. Realizing their mistake, they quickly decided to leave the area. Kai and Wyldfyre continued their relentless search for the Armory. Suddenly, their attention was diverted as they noticed Beatrix's lies were exposed, and Sora, with her speech, had managed to captivate the attention of the Imperians. Soon, Kai and Wyldfyre finally reached the Armory. As they destroyed the Armory, Kai and Wyldfrye walked away from the exploding building. Kai couldn't help but be awed at the Armory's destruction, acknowledging that it lived up to its name.

The Power Within

Kai reunited with the rest of the ninja and pointed out that Beatrix had completely lost control. Concerned about their next move, he asks the team for their plan of action. Lloyd, filled with confidence, reminded Kai and the others that they would confront Beatrix head-on. Without wasting any time, the ninja swiftly engage in combat with Beatrix, utilizing their unique Elemental Powers. In an attempt to subdue Beatrix, Wyldfyre unleashes a blast of Heat. However, to the ninja's surprise, Wyldfyre gets sucked into a MergeQuake. Witnessing Wyldfyre's presumed demise, Kai's anger takes over and he launches an attack on Beatrix, only to find himself being pulled into another MergeQuake. Following the conclusion of the MergeQuake storm, Kai and everyone who were engulfed by it emerged unscathed, with Kai landing directly on top of Lloyd. Anticipating a warm embrace from Nya, Kai was taken by surprise when Wyldfyre enthusiastically tackled him into a tight hug.

Kai and Wyldfyre engaged in a fiery display of their powers, with Kai shooting fire at some cans. Kai acknowledged Wyldfyre's impressive display but shifted the conversation to the topic of precision. Wyldfyre, not fully understanding the concept, humorously suggestd that precision means she was already perfect and has nothing left to learn. Kai clarified that precision referred to improving and becoming even more awesome with time and practice. He then noticed a difference between their powers - the cans he hit burned to ash, while Wyldfyre's cans melted, showing that they have different Elemental Powers. Arin decided to commemorate the victory by baking Snowberry Pies. Kai decided to sample one of the pies, only to accidentally drop it.

The Elemental Mechs

What the Mech?

Taking advantage of Lloyd's absence, Kai saw an opportunity to set up Kai's Super Awesome Slide Course. He was able to convince Arin and Sora to join him by claiming that sliding down the course using Wu's meditation carpet would provide a meditative experience. Although Arin and Sora had their reservations, they decided to give it a try. However, their exhilarating slide came to an abrupt halt when they accidentally crashed into Cole. Cole then revealed that dangerous items, including Chronosteel, had been shipped to Ninjago. This piqued the curiosity of Arin and Sora, prompting Kai to explain the significance of Chronosteel. He elaborated on how Chronosteel was used to forge the Time Blades. Concerned about the potential dangers posed by these items, Kai and the others felt compelled to take action. They decided to pay a visit to Kreel's Junkyard, as Kreel had been advertising these hazardous items for days.

Upon their arrival, Lobbo inadvertently absorbed a surge of energy from one of the items, resulting in a transformation that fueled his anger and led him to attack Kai and the ninja. Despite their efforts to stop Lobbo, Kai and the ninja found themselves overpowered. Sora swiftly constructed three mechs, assigning one of them to Kai. Initially unimpressed by the appearance of his assigned mech, Kai dismissed it as a mere frisbee. However, his skepticism quickly turned to awe as he activated the mech and witnessed its remarkable capabilities. Lobbo was held back by Kai and Cole, while Sora extracted the perilous energy from Lobbo, restoring him to his normal state. With caution, the ninja confiscated all the hazardous objects from Kreel. Kai proposed an idea to use these items to enhance his slide course, which earned disapproving looks from the rest of the ninja. In an attempt to diffuse the tension, Kai confessed that he was only joking, albeit partially.

A Pain in the Mech!

Kai, Cole, Arin, Sora, and Riyu gathered at the Crossroads to witness the noodle cook-off. As they arrived, Kai conversed with Grab-Barg and was given a bowl of noodles. As the Ice Dragons launched an attack, the Lava-Tide chef sought his sous-chefs to defend his honor. Mistakenly assuming the chef was addressing him, Kai clarified their intention to protect everyone before being interrupted by the chef. While the ninja engaged in battle with the Ice Dragons, Kai swiftly finished his noodles and joined the fight. The ninja used their mechs to combat the Ice Dragons, but the Lava-Tides obstructed their efforts by attacking the ninja as well. To disrupt the Lava-Tides, Kai borrowed an arm from the Elemental Earth Mech, throwing them off balance. Subsequently, Kai exchanged his mech's arms with Sora's mech's arms, employing an arm from the Elemental Tech Mech. With it, Kai successfully restrained the second Ice Dragon using Technology. With both dragons tied up, Kai voiced his criticism towards Lloyd's doubts regarding the ninja's teamwork.

Following the exposure of the Lava-Tide chef's theft of the Ice Dragons' eggs, Riyu pushed him agaisnt his oven, causing his noodles to scatter in all directions. Kai and the others then promptly returned the eggs to the Ice Dragons and made their way back to the Monastery of Spinjitzu. Lloyd eagerly awaited an explanation, but Kai responded by acknowledging that there was indeed an explanation, albeit a peculiar one. Once they finished clarifying matters, Lloyd reminded Kai about the task of bringing him lunch. In return, Kai handed over the noodles that were tangled in his hair.
