Plot[]

Ninja Path[]

Fearing for the future of the world, Sensei Wu foresees the return of an old adversary. In preparation for such event, he has chosen to train four young warriors in the ancient art of Spinjitzu. After finishing the initial training for Kai, the Ninja head out in search of the Scythe of Quakes.

Inside the Caves of Despair, the four Ninja must light torches to navigate through the darkness. They find the Scythe deep within the cave, Cole jumping up and snatching it from where it hung from the ceiling, though with an incoming earthquake, they all narrowly flee.

Later, the Ninja travel to the Frozen Wasteland, where Zane discovers the Shurikens of Ice. Careful of traps, Zane prepares to swap the golden weapon with a regular shuriken, though his plan fails and the Ice Dragon awakens regardless. The dragon is quick to freeze the white Ninja, his comrades grabbing him and escaping the Ice Temple.

The Ninja decide to search the mountains for an entrance to the Floating Ruins, eventually finding a chain extending to the location. In the Floating Ruins, the four Ninja climb up the tall chain and reach the top. They slowly walk onward, only for Kai to slip and fall off of the floating platform—though Cole catches him right in the nick of time. They continue their search for the Nunchucks of Lightning, unveiling it by placing electrical rods atop four specifically placed pads.

After Kai follows the figure of Nya to the Fire Temple, the Ninja sleep in the Forest of Tranquility. During their slumber, the Skulkin ambush their campsite, leaving Zane to defend Cole and Jay while they remain unconscious. Jay wakes up and, after seeing Zane fending off a hoard of Skulkin, concludes that they must be after the Golden Weapons. Cole wakes up to the raid, Zane informing him of the situation as he springs into battle. However, despite their efforts, Samukai joins the fray and snatches their weapons.

Inside the Fire Temple, Kai discovers that Nya was Lord Garmadon in disguise and is forced to remove the Sword of Fire from its pedestal to save her. After he rescues his sister, they are faced with an onslaught of Shadows summoned by Lord Garmadon. Sensei Wu comes to their aid, but the shadows defeat Kai and Lord Garmadon obtains the Sword of Fire. Quickly, Sensei Wu uses his shadow to knock the Sword out of Lord Garmadon's hands, Sensei Wu grabbing the Sword of Fire himself.

Afterwards, they are forced to escape the temple when the Fire Dragon awakens, though they cannot find the exit. The rest of the Ninja find Kai, grouping together and defending themselves from the Fire Dragon.

Once the Fire Dragon has been defeated, the Ninja discuss how they need to find Sensei Wu and recover their weapons. Seeing a portal, they all rush through it and arrive in the Skulkin's mining base, finding a map that opens another portal. They appear in the Frozen Wasteland, where an Ice Monster steals the map before fleeing. The Ninja are quick on its trail, obtaining the map and finding a portal once more. Arriving in the Monster's base, they fight off a hoard of Monsters until they discover the map and open the portal again.

Finally arriving in the Underworld, the Ninja decide to hold Krazi captive in order to find Garmadon's Dark Fortress. However, Krazi leads them into several traps on the way, though they arrive at the location regardless. Seeing that the Ninja survived his traps, Krazi rushes off announcing the presence of the intruders. After defeating a large army of Skulkin, they infiltrate the Fortress and face Lord Garmadon.

As Lord Garmadon and Sensei Wu spring into battle, Samukai jumps in the middle of it and fights Master Wu instead. The Skulkin General easily knocks the Sword of Fire out of Sensei Wu's hands, taking it for himself and defying Lord Garmadon's orders. However, due to the power of the four weapons, Samukai falls apart and creates a vortex where he previously was. Lord Garmadon escapes through the portal, leaving behind the four Golden Weapons and allowing the Ninja to obtain them.

Skulkin Path[]

In the Underworld, Lord Garmadon has chosen a large group of Skulkin to retrieve the four Golden Weapons of Spinjitzu. Samukai takes immediate action and commands his army to take a large portion of land from a horde of monsters, claiming the island to be their new camp.

Next, Samukai, Chopov, and Frakjaw stray away from their camp in order to find a portal to the Forest of Tranquility; however, upon finding said portal, they discover that it has become inactive. Each of them grab floating metal scraps and put them together to assemble a tall pillar. Realizing that the pillar must have some sort of connection to the portal, they assemble two more, which causes the portal to start glowing.

Having arrived at Ignacia, Samukai orders his comrades to look for the map while he distracts Sensei Wu. As the Skulkin rampage through the small village, they finally come across Four Weapons Blacksmith where they discover the map. Through all the chaos, Samukai snatches Nya before escaping from the incoming villagers.

Due to the incompetence of Kruncha and Nuckal, Nya manages to slip away from their grasp and darts into a cave. Samukai tells Kruncha and Nuckal to go fetch her immediately, but each time they get close to her, Nya makes another run for it. While the two Skulkin Generals are bickering during their fruitless endeavor, Samukai swoops in and captures Nya himself.

Having Nya back in their possession, Samukai attempts to get answers about the Golden Weapon locations out of the tied up girl. She refuses to talk, and when Samukai gets too close for comfort, she headbutts him away. Nuckal and Kruncha try to persuade her with weak threats, but she still won't comply to their demands.

Samukai then leads a party of Skulkin to search the forest for the Caves of Despair. On their way, they find that a path leading to the caverns is blocked. They quickly take more metal scraps scattered throughout the forest and use them to build shrines, which clears the path for them to enter. Shortly after, they begin excavating the caves in search of the Scythe of Quakes—but during the excavation, they reach many obstacles that require strategic placement of units atop panels on the floor. Due to the setback, they discover that the Ninja have already taken the Scythe, and must defeat the enraged Earth Dragon.

The group of Skulkin begin to feel rushed and try to find a portal to the Frozen Wasteland as quickly as possible. They tear through the thick forest and, while finding other portals that have become inactive, find a working one and run through it. After arriving in the Frozen Wasteland, they discover that the Ninja have beat them to the Shurikens of Ice as well, having to fend off a horde of monsters the Ninja left behind.

After surviving the cold of the Frozen Wasteland, they then move onto searching for the Floating Ruins. They battle their way through the forest toward the long chain, but when the Skulkin begin climbing it, they notice Jay flying off with the Nunchucks already. Not knowing how to get off the Floating Ruins themselves, they look for an old Skulkin inventor to assist them, only finding them after being continuously ambushed by monsters.

Back in the Underworld, Lord Garmadon has set up a trap for Kai that is ready to be sprung. Some of the Skulkin are ordered to lure the red Ninja into the trap when the time is right by stepping over panels to remove certain blockades in his way. After steering him in the right direction successfully, Kai rescues his sister and is forced to fight a group of Shadows. Sensei Wu comes to Kai's aid, but sees that the only way to stop the chaos is to travel to the Underworld to face Lord Garmadon himself.

Another group of Skulkin has ambushed the Ninjas' camp in the Forest of Tranquility, but the Ninja escapes their grasp. Samukai then orders his troops to retrieve the Scythe, Shuriken, and Nunchucks at all costs. Although the Ninja have tricks up their sleeves, the Skulkin manage to snatch their Golden Weapons away without many problems.

With the Sword of Fire in Sensei Wu's possession, Lord Garmadon orders Samukai to dual his brother for him. Right as Samukai is about to lose, Lord Garmadon shoots a small sphere of energy at Sensei Wu, which throws him off and gives Samukai the upper hand. Samukai defeats Master Wu, and when Lord Garmadon tells Samukai to hand over the Golden Weapons, the Skulkin General refuses. However, due to the power of all four Golden Weapons at once, Samukai disintegrates which creates a portal, and Lord Garmadon escapes the Underworld.

Gameplay[]

The player selects and moves their units over a battlefield in order to perform certain tasks (such as defeat a set amount of enemies). The player can upgrade their units depending on the amount of Yellow Bricks one has gathered and the point of the game the player is at. Each unit has two unique attacks upon upgrading, though in the unit's default stage, only has one basic attack. The player's units can be defeated in battle, but can be summoned again by building and using a Barracks.

Outside of battle, the player starts off in the main lobby: the Monastery of Spinjitzu. The inside of the Monastery branches off into multiple different doors and buildings, consisting of the Story Mode door, the Battle Mode door, the LEGO Shop, the Conquests building, and the Options desk.

Yellow Bricks[]

Yellow Bricks appear in piles in each level. The purpose of these are to harvest them with your Builders and use them to create buildings or units.

LEGO Studs[]

LEGO Studs are what players use as currency, used primarily to buy characters, concept art, and maps in the LEGO Shop. Players can obtain LEGO Studs by destroying monsters and miscellaneous objects, or by picking them up off the floor.

Booster Packs[]

Booster Packs are purple LEGO Studs, usually either found in hidden locations on the floor, or appear after a significant monster has been defeated.

True Ninja[]

True Ninja status is a rank system that players can achieve on every mission. To accomplish True Ninja status, a player must obtain the required amount of LEGO Studs for that particular mission.

Minikits[]

Minikits are gold statues that are hidden in many levels. The purpose of these objects are to collect them in order to unlock new buyable characters in the LEGO Shop.

Red Bricks[]

Red Bricks are special objects that are hidden in certain levels. Upon obtaining, Red Bricks can be activated by pressing start and enabling them in the "Red Bricks" section of the menu screen. The following is a list of obtainable Red Bricks:
